Can you tell me if you had quantitative blood work done? I had a blighted ovum and found out in March. I found out I was pregnant last week and just got my blood tests back. My levels on Monday were 166 and today they were 436...so they more than doubled. Do I still have a chance of having a blighted ovum????

Im not sure if you could still have a blighted ovum but i had a blighted ovum with my first pregnancy and then i got pregnant 2 months later. They monitored my hcg level every two days for the first week and they doubled every time. I also had a scan at 5 weeks and they could onlt see the sac and yolk sac. I went in again at 6 weeks and i saw the baby with a heartbeat. So you should ask your dr to scan you as soon as possible!

I don't really think the hcg levels can tell you anything for sure. When I had a b/o my levels were really high, and continued doubling for quite some time. The next time I got pregnant, I didn't feel confident until we had a scan at 7 weeks. We waited until then because they said by then there would definitely be a visible heartbeat if it wasn't a b/o. I didn't want to have to worry... so I just waited until we could be sure. Try not to worry too much. (I know that's much easier said than done.) It's rare to have two b/o's in a row. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your comments ladies. I've decided to wait until 8 weeks to get my sonogram because I can't handle seeing that blank screen numerous times. If I don't see anything, I'll know right then that something is not right. Until then, I'll be thankful and stay positive. (which yes, is easier said than done! hahaha) I am so fearful that my husband and I are that 2% that have some kind of a genetic issue. It's awful because I just wanted to be excited....I mean we've tried for over a year and a half.....I should be jumping for joy....but not until my first sono...which is July 9!!!!

Jenn, I understand how you feel. It's a really long wait. But I completely understand waiting for the scan. That's exactly why I did it. I'll be thinking of you. Just do your best to stay positive and healthy. Hopefully you'll get to see a heartbeat on the 9th! Keep us posted.

Hi Jenn,You are very smart (and disciplined!!) to wait to the 8 week mark. I had my loss at 10 weeks in Dec. and my HCG constantly and regularly went up. This time I had HCG done and it didn't even come close to doubling, u/s at 6 weeks and it was an empty sac and measured only 4 weeks. Waited 2 more weeks and that u/s confirmed an 8 week healthy pregnancy with heartbeat. Try to enjoy being pregnant while you wait for that 8 week u/s. Good luck on July 9 and let us know how it goes!! Take care.
