Nate,
Congratulations! That is very exciting news! As for those of you have losses, my heart goes out to you as we had 3 but now have a beautiful baby boy through adoption, it was quick and we brought him home straight from the hospital so if anyone is done with the heartache and wants to start a family through adoption feel free to contact me. We love him soooo much. There are days I forget that I didn't actually give birth to him.

Thank you all for the congrats and prayers. tknueven, I have one little girl who no longer seems so little. But she is 2.5 years old now. We went through 2 MCs before she came. And since we have an ArmyWife, and Ex-ArmyWife, I'd like to add that I'm an Ex-ArmyBrat. Grew up with my dad in the Army. Just thought I'd throw that in there so I'm not left out :)

Dear Tknueven,

I am homozygous MTHFR and Im currently 31 weeks pregnant. I lost four babies last year and finally went to a perinatologist who took a look at my history and knew right away what was wrong. He sent me for the DNA tests and there it was. I take 9 pills a day. 4 folic acid, 1 B6, 1 B12, 1 baby aspirin to thin my blood, a prenatal and DHA supplement. I havent had ANY complications at all!! Ive had ultrasounds every 4 weeks and am now starting NST's (non stress tests) to monitor the baby since im in my 3rd trimester. If anything looks funny, I'd probably be put on bedrest or induced. But I seriously never thought I'd get pregnant again. I was so discouraged and ready to adopt. Have faith!! It can happen. The baby aspirin REALLY helps. I hope this is encouraging for you!!

HI Tknueven- Here is my story. I have one healthy son that is now 3, prior to him I had a mc. After him I had 4 more, 1 at 14 weeks, 1 at 16 weeks. After many trips to special doctors including Chicago (they did fantastic blood tests there) we found I have MTHFR double mutation, blood clotting issues, RH factor, and low thyroid hormone. To make a long story short it was suggested to me to take levenox 2 x daily, prednisone, levothyroxine (thyroid, low dose), baby aspirin daily, and Metanx instead of folgard due to the synthetic form and travels to the blood stream quicker all while pregnant. Prior to pregnancy they suggested the baby aspirin, Metanx, and thyroid. We are currently pregnant at 17 weeks and so far so good with the baby. I have been terribly sick and have taken the predisone for the past 3 weeks. I will let you know how it continues but so far it is going ok. I still am very nervous and find myself praying daily that I make it to the next day. We will keep all of you in our prayers and hope that only good news comes to each of you.

Gigismith- I would really like to know more about your adoption, I have a sister who cannot get pregnant and we would still consider adoption as well.

Thanks so much!

I am so glad to see this website becoming active again. Its so good to hear positive outcomes when all you see is darkness.
I have a question. Its a TMI question so considered yourself warned! I started baby aspirin right after my last period. This period that I just had was horrible. Again..get ready for the tmi...it was red and very heavy. Did anyone experience this after starting baby aspirin?
We have decided to try again this month while we actively look into adoption. I wish all of you all the luck in the world!

tknueven - June 16th, 2009 10:50 PM

I have a couple of questions for everyone. The ones that have been taking lovenox, how much do they have you on? I was only on 30 mg a day...I do not have eleveated levels on homosteine and I am still miscarrying and they say that when you have normal levels you do not have an increased risk of miscarriage. Also Mabelle2424 I have a quick question for you, I was wondering what and why you were on DHA supplements. It is interesting that you are also on prednisone b/c I was asking about that prior to this. I know someone else in this situation that had miscarriages and then she was placed on prednisone and carried and everything went fine. My doctor refuses to do this for me b/c he says it risks my health. I think it is frustrating that my doctor is so stuck on sperm donors and embryo donors. I think he just wants to do that other than try and help me. Does anyone have suggestions. I found it frustrating b/c my gma that passed away this year (would have been 90) had 4 children and then for 9 years had miscarriage after miscarriage and her last 3 girls she had to get a shot a week during the pregnancy and was told not to travel and then carried all three of them. That was 55 years ago and my doctor can't find anything. Sad to say they have no way of finding the record and her nurses no longer remember what the shots were. However I will continue to pray for all of you that are pregnant, hope all goes well.

mabell2424 - June 16th, 2009 11:57 PM

Tkueven,
I dont take prednisone. I took it in a prior pregnancy and it didnt work. I take folic acid, b6,b12,baby aspirin, prenatal vitamin, and the dha supplement. 9 pills total. (4 of the folic acid). The dha supplement is just a good vitamin to take that helps the forming of the babys central nervous system.

Hi,

I was reading the blog, and have noticed your comments. Excuse me for that, but me and my wife have been trying for a baby after our first 4 years old baby boy, where we have reached to 6 M/Cs.

My wife was diagnosed as an MTHFR carrier and the last M/C was three days back with 17 weeks pregnancy. The treatment that we were following was heparin shots 7500 ml twice per day with baby aspirin and folic acid.

I have thought of supporting my wife by knowing more about the MTHFR and wether there is any treatment for a healthy pregancy.

Regards,

Fad

Well Fad, allow me to be the first to welcome you to the site and congratulate you on your desire to be more knowledgeable on MTHFR. I was in your same shoes about 3 years ago and was welcomed into this forum from so many wonderful and powerful women like those that are still on this site today. If you've got the time, there is a wealth of knowledge through now 88 pages of people going through the same experiences. It was when I first started this journey with my wife that I felt so alone like we were one of the few people dealing with MTHFR, and because of this site (although bitter sweet) it's always good to know you're not alone. I, personally have a 2.5 year old after 2MCs and have just recently found out my wife is pregnant again. She has never stopped taking her extra folic, b6, b12, or prenatals. And started baby aspirin about a month and a half before we actively stopped trying to prevent pregnancy. So far this has worked for us, but ask around or read back, you'll soon learn that most everyone has a story to tell. :)

Thanks Nate for the welcome and wish you all the best for you and your wife.

Fad
Sorry to hear of your losses and your most recent loss. My last loss was just 3 weeks ago (found no heartbeat after there was one at our weekly ultrasound) It is so sad and yet you feel like no one knows how you feel. It is nice to share your feelings with others that know what you are going through. From what I have gathered about everything about people taking this and that, it sounds like everyone is different for what works. I have decided to start taking a b6 and b12 and omega 3 fish oil (previously I have not taken these) along with the prenatal vitamin and baby aspirin. As soon as I know I am pregnant I start taking progesterone suppositories also and then like your wife does I take lovenox (only 30 mg a day though). I guess from looking at others they carry a baby with this and then looking at my situation it doesn't work. But I really do think that some day I will get my little one and if that doesn't happen we are looking into adoption b/c we would really like a child and mabey become not so stressed about having one. FOr those of you taking lovenox how many mg are you on? I feel like they could increase my dose. Did I tell you that i am going to a acupuncture on this Friday (that specializes in infertility) At this point I figure what doesn't hurt you can only help you and at this point I will try anything. Best of luch to all of you.

Hello everyone. I'm also an alum of this board. I've been reading the posts but could not remember my username...lol.

I also have good news for you all. After 4 2nd trimester losses and one "normal" miscarriage we had a little boy January 2008. He was 10 weeks premature (we knew there was very little chance of going to term). He is now 17 months and perfectly healthy! He is walking and talking and goofy as can be.

I am homozygous CT667; however, the Lovenox, Folic acid, baby aspirin complex did not work for me. It seems that I also have some type of anaerobic bacteria in the uterus that manifests during pregnancy...blah blah blah. So, I was on all of the above, Progesterone injections and antibiotics. Every time I went of the antibiotics, I would start to contract. Its just really weird, but either way we now have our little guy.

Please remember that anything is possible. After 6 years and 5 losses, we have our "miracle" baby and I now believe anything is possible.

Yet, I am also realistic and don't know that I could ever do it again. DH would love to have one more, but after months in the hospital and all the stress, I just don't know. I finally feel like I'm off the roller coaster and can live a "normal" life.

I wish you all the best in all your endeavors!!!

Good to hear that you have good news. How did they find out that you had anaerobic bacteria in your uterus? That is really interesting about the antibiotics. I also have a question about the progesterone shots...did you take them during the whole pregnancy or just the first or last part? I am just on the suppositories and was wondering if you knew why your doctor does the shot. THanks for your input!

cassboyd - June 18th, 2009 6:57 PM

I have a question. I got pregnant within 2 months with my last miscarrages. Since being diagnosed with MTHFR 3 months ago, I have not been able to get pregnant. I am on Folcaps, prenatal vits, and a baby aspirin. I did an ovulation test last month and I never ovulated. My RE said that if I don't get pregnant this month, I will start Clomid with my next cycle. Is this common?

If I haven't said it already, congrats Nate..to you and your wife.

Stac - June 18th, 2009 8:07 PM

tknueven-- My losses were all later in pregnancy (between 15-22 wks). The research shows that the shot helps those with later losses(I have no idea why). I started the shot around 13 weeks. I still lost one while doing the progesterone injections but we weren't going to leave anything out. From what I remember, the suppositories help strength the uterus/wall or something for those with earlier losses or have low levels of progesterone.

Regarding the ureaplasma (bacteria), I actually noticed it. I requested copies of all the pathologies and noticed infection in 3 of them. I then asked my doctor about it and she thought that was really interesting that it was there in 3 pregnancies. The first loss they didn't look for it. I guess in 1999 they really didn't know anything about Ureaplasma. One loss looks like it was due to the MTHFR.

Oh, I had four different doctors over the course of pregnancies due to relocating and such. They might have noticed if I had the same doctor.........who knows.
