Hi Birdnest - I am so sorry for your loss. It is so difficult to go through this and I understand the emotions you must be dealing with right now. My first miscarriage was natural - I was about 8 weeks and was uneventful. The 2nd miscarriage which was a blighted ovum - I opted to do the d&c. I was offered the misoprostal and declined due to the fact that it can be very heavy bleeding, cramping and the experience overall is not fun. The other downside to the misoprostal is that you may not pass everything on your own and then could end up having a d&c anyway. For me, being my 2nd m/c in 4 months, I just wanted the experience to be over with. I was very comfortable with the doctor that performed my d&c and everything went fine. It is a surgical procedure though, so of course there are risks, my doctor said it was less than 1% chance of anything happening so I took the risk.
If your doctor is not concerned with you having an infection right now, you may want to see if nature takes its course and take the time to decide on the d&c or misoprostal in the event it doesn't happen naturally.
