Tara- go for VBAC. The success rate is extremely high. The reason most doctors say nope to it is because its so much easier to just cut you open on a schedule then not know when you come in and how long you'll be in labor for, etc. PLUS they get more money for it. Those 2 reasons sound bad, but its the Gods honest truth. If your dr. wont even be open to a vbac then scare him into saying you'll switch doctors. There are A LOT out there now that will do it, or at least try their very hardest.

DownbutnotOUT - June 21st, 2006 3:32 AM

Hi TaraS I was just browsing when I saw your post. I want you to know that after 33 hrs of labour with my first he was taking by c-section and the heck I endured aftrewards was so horrid I wouldnt wish it on anyone. Well with my second they wanted me to do a VBAC and I was into it but I started having trouble, a little pain here a little pain there. Well needless to say my 2nd was a c-section and thank god he was! It turns out I didnt heal right and my c-section scare which was suppose to be 2 cm was 2mm thick and if i tried a VBAC I would have ruptured no question. I live in Canada so we dont pay for our health care but for me I would take what my dr says to heart and would consider it but in the end listen to your own body and what you want! Take care, best wishes XoX.

Here once you have had a ceaser they dont let you have natural birth something about scare not holding out. My friend wanted to wait to have ceaser on July 1st (begining of finace year) that made her full term Dr didnt want to risk her going into labour shes had ceaser b4. Why wait cos here at the moment they pay you $3000 to have a baby and it goes to $4000 July 1st.

Daniella - June 21st, 2006 3:54 AM

Bee- yea, coda was just telling me that they pay you $4000 to have a baby there because of the low birth rate. Its the same here in Japan. They are paying women to have babies because more women are going to school, etc. and not having children so the future generation isn't going to be able to fill the jobs, etc. Too bad that doesn't apply to us because we aren't Japanese nationals. LOL... ANYHOW... Bee- they use to think that once you have a c-section that its too risky to have another... until recent studies show that the success rate is extremely high because of how they do c-sections now compared to before.. your uterus heals almost the exact same as normal. Medical technology has come along way. My sister had a c-section on her first 15 years ago, and wanted a VBAC. Her doctor let her try (this was 6 years ago)... Her water broke in the morning and they let her go 36 hours in labor to have a natural birth because the baby wasn't doing just fine. Well, right during the pushing phase his head was getting stuck, so she ended up having another c-section. It had NOTHING to do with the previous c-section but only that her pelvis wasn't opening up big enough to fit her sons head through. She was kinda bummed that she went that many hours to have a natural birth but then ended up having a c-section in the end. Although she is very happy she got to try. What kinda upset me is she made a comment to me that was a little inappropriate. I was told when I was almost due that I may end up with a c-section because my pelvis is also small. I told my sister that and she says, "Well, at least if you have a c-section you will still be tight down there, if you know what I mean" WELL>>> I didn't end up having one and had a perfect vaginal delivery.. so, what?? now I'm not as tight?? She shouldn't have said that. Whats so funny is my hubby and I agree that I am actually smaller and tighter down there now then I was before birth. Its so much better. All these woman that think you get lose after have a natural birth is wrong. Well, I guess unless something terrible goes wrong. But, you go right back to normal if not tighter. Its weird!

***The baby WAS doing just fine*** Sorry about all the typos

LeraeAllyn - June 21st, 2006 9:30 AM

DANIELLA -- I think you may be mis-interpreting my emails. I am not trying to avoid seeing a doctor at all. My m/c happened early in October. I did not get my first a/f until Jan 1st. My first two cycles were very whacky, heavy, long, basically not back to normal yet. My a/f that started on June 10th was technically my 6th cycle since the m/c but really only my 4th somewhat normal cycle. I feel like I am giving my body a chance to do it's thing before I jump the gun & start thinking something is wrong with me. After over a decade of being on the pill, conceiving on the 1st try after going off it and then having a m/c a month and a half later, I feel like my body had allot to straighten out. I have an appt with my new internal medicine doctor (the one I saw in Jan that ran the bloodtests for my hcg, prolactin levels and thyroid) on July 27th for a pap/pelvic exam & to discuss what has been happening since we met in January. I will see her sooner if there is a cancellation in her schedule. With the new HMO insurance I have there are no board certified OB's, only internal medicine and family practice doctors. My intention all along was to start seeing the OB's at the Clinic where I had been working with the midwives last year as soon as I get pregnant. Right now I can not make an appt with them just for a pap/pelvic exam. So, I am doing what I can to see my doctor. It is just that this is a whole new doctor for me and there is not much of a relastionship formed yet. I had hoped to be pregnant by now so I could get right in to the OB's. But since I am not and I am overdue for my pap I am seeing my internal medicine doc for that in July. As for my friend who does the energy work. I have had only two sessions with her and it is not like she has claimed seeing her will get me pregnant. I know you are skeptical about the whole concept, that is OK. I was too and that is why I asked that she work with me so I could see what it is all about. Unless you experience it you can not completely understand. But I did not see her expecting to get pregnant because of it. We all know it is way more intricate then that. As for the accupuncture, it is just something to think about if we continue to be unsuccessful and the steps I take with my doctor or the new OB's in the months to come do not help. I know I am now over 35 but I think you need to have been trying for 6 months before they will want to start extensive testing. I want to give it another couple cycles and go from there. My patience pops up in surprising times and places I guess. Also, thank you, I too hope that DH and I will have an beautiful blue eyed baby someday :-) Dawn

Daniella - June 21st, 2006 10:17 AM

Dawn- As far as your friend that does the energy work, that was a joke. I know she isn't going to make you pregnant. lol.. Just because I'm not into that stuff doesn't mean that I down it at all. Hey, here in Japan they are really big about that stuff. So, I don't have any problems with it. Once again, that was a joke. Sorry if it got under your skin. I'm sure she's great. As far as your doctor, etc. hey... its your body, you know whats best. I was just wondering if there was a reason and yea, HMO is a great reason. I can't believe they wont let you see an OB since you are over 35 now. I know I was a bit flurried when I went to make my 6 week postpartum apt. with my OB, the lady said they are fully booked for the month and said that I should just make an apt. with my regular doctor. I was like, "No, I don't think I am going to have ANOTHER doctor examine me down there when I have one here thats just fine" so, I have to wait until the 27 for my post pardum apt. that your supposed to get 6 week after. It would be the end of July but I am seeing the midwife. I don't much like her for what she did to me in the labor and delivery room (long story) but, all I'm getting done is a pap, so can't be too bad. ANyhow... I really hope you do conceive so you dont have to worry about it. I was just asking on the doctor thing because I know it took you a while to seek one after your m/c. but, yea.. the insurance can be a pain. I wonder how much it would cost out of the pocket to see a specialist if they didn't cover that. Although, I'm sure you can fight it since its been 6 months now and your over 35. ANYHOW... I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. I can't wait until you post a BFP on here. :) I just wonder if you being on the pill actually helped you get pregnant that first cycle. Like you said, you were on the pill for a long time. When are you going to start the OPK's?

LeraeAllyn - June 21st, 2006 12:02 PM

DANIELLA -- Ooops, I am sorry. I did not take that as a joke at all. My bad .... Yes the whole changing insurance at the 1st of the year, new doctor, new everything in the middle of TTC pretty much stinks. BUT everything happens for a reason. I still think I will end up with twins now since the midwives could not do twins but the OB's at the UW Clinic can. The other thing is the OB's at that clinic are all specialists of some kind. I was told by my HMO that I could self refer myself there and set up an appt with them but when I called to set up up I was told people usually do not set up just a pap with them, that my insuracne might not want to pay for it. Instead of hassleing with it I just set up the pap with my PCP and will go from there. She was very receptive when I saw her in Jan and I think that if she feels more could be done on her end at this time she will suggest it. I do KNOW I can get in with the OB's as soon as I get pregnant so that is good and I am sure I will be able to if we continue to not get pregnant. We will see. I am fine even if I can not get in to see my doctor until the end of july. That gives me this month to try and hopefully I will not need to worry and be PG by then. About the OPK tests, I am trying to be tactical about when to start since I opted for the 7 tests instead of 20 strip pack. Today is CD12. The soonest I saw an LH surge over the last few months was on CD16 and the latest was CD21. I think I will start on Friday. That will cover me from CD14-CD20 and I should see it in that time frame. I would hope. My friend is due with her 2nd baby next week. I told her it would be neat if she gave birth and I conceived next week. Dawn

Daniella - June 21st, 2006 4:28 PM

Hey Dawn, are you getting AF exactly 14 days after you believe to have ovulated? I know your not ovulating 2 weeks after AF, but just wonder if AF comes 2 weeks after ovulation. Now use your best judgement as to when you think you ovulate. Dont just count 14 days back from AF and say thats when you did. Not everyone can have a 28 day cycle, but if ovulation is taking that long after AF and AF is taking longer than 14 days after ovulation it might be because your not on birth control anymore and your body cant do it on its own. When you were on birth control was your cycle every 28 days?? Usually a longer cycle is a hormone problem, BUT if it was longer on birth control then thats thrown out the window.

Tara S - June 21st, 2006 6:47 PM

downbutnotout, im also from Canada. Where do you live? Im from Alberta.

Brocknkatiesmom - June 21st, 2006 8:02 PM

Hope everyone is doing good. Dawn-Hang in there I have a feeling that you will be pg soon. I am just waiting to have my surgery. July 10th seems like forever away. I know that it will be here before I know it. I am just having a very hard time dealing with evrything. My hormones are all over the place and this weekend I had massive bleeding and it was not even near time for af. I talked to my regular Dr and he said that it is due to the cyst and hopefully it will not last for the next 3 weeks. I hope not either I was soaking a pad in less than 3 hours. It seems to have stoped for now but everytime I go to the bathroom it is a surprise. I want to say thanks to all of you for keeping me in your prayers. It means a lot!! Take care.

regarding the VBAC - I hava a couple of friends who had c-sections and were on the fence for the seocnd one. I remember one saying that the general opininon in the med practice ahd been once a c-section, always a c-section for w long time, then VBAC became popular an i think they said that it is back to them pressing for a repat c-section. I think that it depends on whtat the popular opinion is in teh med community at the time, asw elas the most recently quoted studies, plus a BIG part is malpractice suits. I know some women have to have repeat c-sections because of teir specific cirucmstances, but I do thinkt that many docs just automatically revert to that becaue they are afraid to take chances. My SIL had two c-sections. Her twin had one c and the next two were VBAC. My SIL was hoping her second could be a VBAC but ended up having to have a c (don't remember why). They are identical twins so when her sis had the VBACs she was really hopeful. Just a quicky quetsion for my buddies overseas - not you Daniella, because you are still part of US medical. I know in Aussie, Canada & UK you get much longer for maternity leave, but is it paid or unpaid? and if paid, for how long and what % of your pay? Just curious. Just curious as I am starting to explore those limited options here in the U.S. Wow, Dawn, your problems with insurance make me appreciate my plan. Which really sucks because if I am out longer than 12 weeks, my med coverage will discontinue unless I pay not only my portion of the premium but also the schools' portion of the premium which is a LOT to pay when you are not getting a paycheck! I could switch to dh' s insurance, but I am really worried about doing that because when he started his job and told the benefits dept what plan I had they told him to stay on my plan and just get the buy back form theirs, because mine is much better. The thing is, his monthly premium is cheaper. I may just check out his plan and see if we can switch for the short-term and then switch back to mine. I just don't want to screw up my docs and whatnot because I love the way everything is right now. I really get everythign I want and I pay very little out of pocket.(excpet that crappy 40% each month, ha, ha!). Damn - not only do you have all your healthcare paid for, and you have nice long guaranteed maternity leaves, but they PAY you to have a baby! I think I need to start teaching overseas!

coda - June 21st, 2006 10:53 PM

i know were i come from in scotland in a place called fife u get 11 months full pay then 6 months half pay then u are on extended maternity leave and u only get about 25% of ur wage off the goverment but most ppl are back at work by then. i must say thou it depends on who u work for . i worked for the goverment so they are really good even when u are sick u get 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay but ovuaslly u have to prove ur ill lol.

Daniella - June 21st, 2006 10:59 PM
