Hi ladies! I stopped taking my progesterone supplements (Prometrium) right at week 13. How do I know that my progesterone levels are okay now? Is there a way to tell if the placenta has truly taken over? Thank you.

Newbie, did your doctor tell you to stop taking them? My OB just prescribed me prometrium too and he told me that if I am pg that I will most likely be on them until wk 14 until the placenta has taken over.

Hi Katie! My doctor actually told me to stop at week 12...but I was too scared to do that. I was originally on 200mg 2x a day. I was worried to stop it so abruptly, so I took only one dose a day until week 13. But of course now I am worried.

Sam, don't worry you are totally fine! The placenta starts taking over well before 12 weeks (I think it starts around 8-9 weeks) and is fully in charge by 12. If it eases your mind ask your doctor for a progesterone blood test or keep taking the pills for a bit longer as it won't hurt, but really you don't need them for sure after 14 weeks. You are doing great! When was your last ultrasound?

I can definitely understand your worry but since you are now in the 2nd trimester then the placenta should have taken over by now. I would consult your doctor and ask about it. Good luck and I'm sure everything will be ok..

Yes, you placenta start taking over at around week 10. There are already 2 weeks of cushion. I know it's scary, it was for me too, but I tough it out, and stop cold turkey at 12 week. You and your baby will be fine!

STEF, CYNN, KATIE: Thank you girls so much for your words of wisdom. That really helps! I didn't realize that the placenta starts working so soon. My doctor was very confident for me to stop the progesterone at week 12--but I was so paranoid about that. I will ask my docs again at my next appt. I just went in for my first tri. screening test on Monday. Oh my gosh, the u/s was amazing. Baby actually looked like a baby!!! It was wiggling around everywhere. It was such a neat experience to see that since I don't feel any of the kicking yet. When did you feel your first kicks? :)

That's awesome about your scan! To have a good NT scan is a huge step and your chances are very very very low of having problems after that. I first felt movement about 15 weeks but wasn't sure if it was baby or gas. By 16 weeks I could definitely feel it, but i hear that is kind of early.
