chris- hey im sorry to hear about the blood in the uterus but i too had the same thing before i miscarried but i hadnt developed a fetal heartbeat at 6wks it seemed the baby stopped growing and there was blood. one night i went to the ER because of dark spotting waited 2hrs then they did blood work and ultrasound. they couldnt find the baby it wasnt until the next day after being told i was eitha an ectopic pregnancy or threatning miscarriage did my OB find the baby and ruled out ectopic pregnancy. however the blood in the uterus was said to be my reason for bleeding but i was later told that it looked more in formation but since i was so far along without a fetal heartbeat and my hcg level i took had dropped about a thousand they figured i would be able to naturally miscarry. it took like a week and i had no more bleeding or nothing so i opted to have a d&c so i could at least try to start the period of grief and healing. i pray this is not the outcome for you and i am now ttc**best wishes to you**

Hope21 I am so sorry that you had to go through that I hope that you have been able to move on with strife and happier outcomes in life. I hope the rest of you are doing much better and are enjoying your toddlers now (since the last post was about 2 years ago). I just had my first ultrasound and also was told that there is blood in my uterus. I have had no signs of bleeding or spotting. The part that makes it scarier for me is that according to my dates I should be about 7 weeks pregnant but the doctor says that the baby looks to be around 5 weeks instead. She explained that I could have ovulated later (mind you I am not that old, in my late 20's) and that is why the dates are off. The doctor also explained that this is a sign that I could be about to miscarry. I have a follow up next week to see if the baby grew otherwise...

I have the same situation at 4.5 weeks (ultrasound shows blood near the sac, I'm spotting, but HCG levels are progressing fine) and I found this article in another online forum at JustMommies.com under subchorionic hematoma. I wish everyone the best!

All I know is that eventually my clot went away; it's no longer there and all is well at 19 weeks. Look up "ubchorionic hematoma." Good luck!

Hello everyone....I had the same thing in my previous pregnancy...unfortunately I miscarried at 16 weeks. They said I had a subchorionic hematoma which blocked the placenta from transferring all the nutrients to the baby. They did nothing while I was pregnant but after the miscarriage I asked them to check me for a clotting disorder....the dr said ok...and bingo I have MTHFR which is a clotting disorder and I have to take a high dose of folic acid. He said that may have been what caused the blood clot (hematoma). I have found that clotting disorders are very common and you wont know you have it unless you ask for the test (no symptoms or anything) Since my miscarriage in 2/09 I've been taking 3mg of folic acid, baby asprin, and prenatal vit. Hopefully I won't have that problem the next time...still havent had any luck getting pregnant! Good luck to everyone! ask for that test

This condition is called subchorionic hematoma. Most of the time it just goes away or you might bleed out brown blood when you pass it. I am dealing with the same issue right now at 6-7 weeks. My husband and I are just trying to stay positive and not get ourselves worked up about it. We're praying and leaving it in God's hands. My doctor has told me to stop any physical activities and intercourse for the time being. I am confident that this will go away in the next few weeks and we will have a healthy baby a few months down the road!

Hi JDoyle..I don't know if you read my post just before yours, but did you get tested for any clotting disorders? It is very common and worth it just to get the blood test. I hope everything works out for you...stay strong. I am still trying to get pregnant. (If I get another subchorionic hematoma I would probably talk the drs into putting me on blood thinners even though they are against it...thats just my personal opinion...not saying it would actually work.) Keep praying!
