i wanted to see if my pregnancy hormones were donw to 0 so i took a pregnancy test. it came up positive (i miscarried and had a D&C 12 days ago) but the ovulating test strips are coming up positive too today? feel like i am losing my mind, does anyone know whats going on?

parkermegan - February 21st, 2006 8:30 PM

I think you can ovulate and still have hcg. My dr told me that I shouldn't ttc when I ovulate unless I know that my hcg levels are at 0 because i would more than likely mc again because of the old tissue still left. So by her saying that I am assuming that you can.

what test did you take?

madison - February 21st, 2006 8:42 PM

i think its called accuview, the ovulating test is the target brand. i hear about women conceiving before they get their first cycle so i guess this is why they can. but like you said, it may not be a safe time yet. anyone else know anything about this? thanks, parkermegan for your postings.

If your body has pregnancy hormones still left than your body will think it is pg. that is why they tell you that you can't O while you still have hcg. your body still thinks its pg so it won't O. it varies for every person but average it takes about 2 weeks. some people tho it takes much longer. some ppl dont get af for 6-8 wks after, which puts their O at about 4-6 wks. every one is diff. read some other posts you will see that everyone is taking hpt's 2 eks after m/c or d&c and most are finally getting a neg. keep testing every week. when it comes up neg than you can start ttc if that is what you choose to do. baby dust

Madison- I agree with Delta; I believe it is medically impossible to 'o' whilst you still have leftover HCG in your system - whilst you have hcg still in your system your body will still believe it is pregnant, and therefore the hormones which stimulate 'o' will not do their job until you have a negative hcg reading. I haven't ever used an opk, but I have read that occasionally it will produce a positive reading for 'o' - when it is really reading leftover hcg. Perhaps someone else can clarify this?? Anyway, I 'o'-d 4 weeks after my D&C. If all else fails - call your doc for advice.

Hi Madision. I am in the same position as you. I had a D & C on the 10th February and have been doing loads of pregnancy tests. I did another pregnancy test yesterday and it was very very faintly positive (had to really look close for for the line though) and the ovulation test was almost positive (not as dark or darker than the control line). Apparently Ovulation tests will produce a line if there is HCG in your system. I am just going to keep testing with the pregnancy tests until they are negative and then TTC like Deltawa suggested. These ladies know what they are talking about - best information I have retrieved is from this forum!! Baby dust to all ...

Hi Madison: I just posted this on your other question. :-) No, you cannot ovulate while you still have leftover hcg in you. The level must drop below 5 (which is considered negative for pregnancy) before your body will pick up the cue to release another egg. Hang in there! If it's bugging you that you might be missing your window, just try bding every other night for a couple of weeks. That should cover you!

The reason you can get pregnant before your first AF is because you ovulate 10-16 days (give or take) before AF comes. But that ovulation won't and physiologically cannot happen until HCG drops below 5. The rate at which HCG drops is dependent on your body's clearance and how far along you were. Interestingly, the further along you were, the faster it clears (there was a study on this). If you get pregnant before AF, there is no higher risk of m/c than if you wait. It's just harder to figure out when you conceived, and waiting a little gives you some time to mourn the loss. I accidentally conceived about 3 weeks after my m/c, and right now I'm mostly frustrated that I didn't get all the weight off from pregnancy #2 before starting pregnancy #3, even though it's only a pound or two. I'm feeling conflicted, like we've forgotten, because it's just so soon after the lost pregnancy and it wasn't planned; it brings up emotions I thought I was done with. So just be ready . . .

My HCG is 4.32 or was as of yesterday. MY dr saw an egg that is ready to be released and my uterus is already lining for a new pg. She told me unless I drop below 0 before I o that I should not try to acheive pg due to the fact that would show that there is left over tissue. She also said that until I am at 0 it is not safe to get pg. I would assume having and HCG of 5 is still a positive pg test, that is what my dr told me yesterday. So technically you can ovulate, it just wouldn't be safe to become pg. I just stopped bleeding yesterday after almost 4 wks of bleeding. And the egg she saw will probably be released in 8-9 days. What is your HCG level? I would think too like the other women that if it was higher than 5 you probably wouldn't o. Good Luck!

Kim L - February 22nd, 2006 11:15 AM

Hi Megan: that's not correct actually - you cannot have less than 0 hcg. Anything less than 5 is considered negative for pregnancy. A non pregnant women of childbearing age usually has 0-2.5 miu/ml of hcg in her bloodstream, and 0 in her urine. You cannot even get a positive pregnancy test unless you have an hcg of at least 20 in the urine. Your level is 4.32 which is below 5, which is considered negative. That is why another egg is about to be released.

parkermegan - February 22nd, 2006 5:24 PM

sorry i meant to say if i drop TO 0

parkermegan - February 22nd, 2006 5:24 PM

My Specialist told me it is still positive

Kim L - February 22nd, 2006 5:39 PM

Hi there: I just got this off the American Pregnancy Association webpage: "An hCG level of less than 5mIU/ml is considered negative for pregnancy, and anything above 25 mIU/ml is considered positive for pregnancy." So I was mistaken - it must be at least 25, not 20 to be considered positive.

I think you can ovulate with left over tissue. I had left over tissue that was miss and had a D&E done for the second time around. My doctor told me I was ovulating in the next couple of days. I was seven weeks and lost the heartbeat. I bleed for two more weeks. At first my doctor thought I was pregnant again because it was over six weeks. When I first got it done and the first time I bleed for ten days. Than had a odd normal period. Than I stop bleeding and started to spot. Than my doctor fond out I had extra tissue in me. Now waiting for my period to get here.

Is that blood test level because I was ten and went down to eight. I got test for the second time in the er and at the doctors. The doctors thought I got early pregnancy. So they tested me before I got the D&E done.
