After over 3 years of trying, we finally got pregnant, saw the heartbeart at 6 weeks, went back 2 days later & the heartbeat was gone. My doctor has advised to let my body miscarry naturally, but it has been a week & nothing has happened. Can anyone tell me on average how long it takes for your body to miscarry naturally, or for those of you who had D&C's would you reccomend that instead? I feel like I trapped in time b/c I am just waiting for this miscarriage to be over with.

I would give it another week. At 6weeks it will b easier to pass it on your own I have had 2 m/c one I waited and did it on my own it took at least a week. The 2nd I was 11 weeks and opted for d&c which dr. confirmed was the right choice this time. I had a great dal of tissue left I did start passing tissue before the d&c but he said it would hav take a few weeks to pass everything. It is hard waiting for it to happen though. Sometimes insurance wont cover if your early in pregnancy. I am sorry for your loss I know how painful it is. I still havent had an af since my d&c Feb 1st. it still hurts too. I wish you the best

I have had 3 miscarriages. 1st (4/06) i chose natural and wow i had actual contractions for only a 6 week pregnancy. Lost alot of blood. Second i started hemorraging and had a emergency d&c. that was 1/08. I just had another missed miscarriage and my d&c was yesterday. My body had not tried to expel yet so i was spared the pain i had in the past. My heart is so heavy and i am not sure we are going to try again,. but for me D&C would still be my choice. i have low pain tollerance and my previous experiences tell me its the smartest choice for me. I could not stand the fact that i was carryig around my baby but it was not alive.I will pray for u. emotionally i am better today just knowing my babies are safe in heaven....

Hi jcgo - So sorry to hear of your recent loss. I was actually very lucky enough to miscarry quickly with all 3 of my mc's. They were all pretty early - 5, 6, and 7 weeks along. The last one we even saw the heartbeat, like you at 6 weeks. It really sucked. Actually, that's an understatement. Anyway, the last time it took the longest which was one and a half weeks from the time I started spotting even though the baby had grown up until a few days before I actually miscarried (passed the tissue).
I can see how it might get in the way of work, not knowing when it's going to hit, so I guess a D&C would eliminate that worry. Also, I kind of wish that I had the tissue analyzed and you can only do that with a D&C. It might have been helpful to see if the mc was due to a genetic abnormality or not. That's the only reason I'd opt for the D&C.

Just had miscarriage yesterday. I was 10 1/2 weeks pregnant but fetus stopped growing at 7 weeks 4 days and no heartbeat. We chose expectant management. Took 2 and half weeks for miscarriage to happen. Total 2 1/2 days to pass all tissue. The baby was still in amniotic sac.
