For those with MTHFR there is a prenatal out there called Neevo, it has L-methyfolate, the active form of folate which bypasses the MTHFR polymorphism. MTHFR is an enzyme defect that does not allow the patient to fully metabolize folic acid into L-methylfolate. Since Neevo has L-methylfolate, the polymorphism is not a factor and you can eliminate your folate issues from the equation. website is Neevoprenatal dot com

Hope this helps someone, and good luck to you all

Hi girls, this bumped up with the prenatal post so I thought I'd take the opportunity to pop in and see how you all are doing? laura, remaining positive, d bruning? Things are good here just cruising along with a baby that is no longer a tiny baby, lol. Almost 10 months old and she's doing wonderfully :) I'm so thankful to god each day for her and that I was able to have her here to meet my grandmother who passed away this morning. She was so old (94) and last weekend I was able to get my dd over to see her great gramma one last time. I remember when I was trying so hard to get pregnant and stay pregnant all I wanted was for her to get to see me have a baby. Anyways, it's been a long day but I am so grateful. Just keep trying and don't give up if any of you are struggling...

remaining positive - April 24th, 2009 3:25 PM

Hi Stefkay & all the other girls!! It was great to hear from you! I am so happy for you, Stefkay-your little girl sounds so precious!! I hope everyone is doing well...I have not had any good news yet-I am still struggling with infertility:( I did that IVF cycle w/ PGD and we never got to transfer, because all the embryo's that we had tested were abnormal. So, we decided to do donor egg, w/ IVF, and I just did that cycle this month and got a BFN......So, we are going to take a month off and do a frozen embryo transfer next month... Somehow, I have found it in me to remain positive and I am not giving up yet!! We have 10 embryo's on ice, so I will do a couple FET and if none of them take, then we will just adopt-which is something I wanted to do in the future anyway....They are going to put me on Lovenox for the FET-did any of your girls do this for your pregnancy's? There have been a lot of things helping me through this roller coaster ride of Infertility....I do acupuncture, started therapy, and I am now a moderator for an online support group in San Diego!! I have come a long way and have learned so much....I am also so grateful for such a wonderful husband-he has been amazing through all of this!!

Well, I hope everyone is doing well....I would love to hear from Bibi, Laura, and all the other girls from our thread!!

Life is short....Live it to the fullest every day!!!

Remaining Positive!

stefkay - April 25th, 2009 11:38 AM

Remaining Positive, reading your post just made me feel so good. I am sorry the ivf is not going so well right now but what is important is the attitude you have while doing it. I'm sure you know it's ok to have a good cry or throw a tantrum here and there as it is healthy but also I can see at least for me all of the good that came out of very bad situations. I can see for you how much you are already helping other women just because of what you are going through. If you DO end up adopting know what a difference you are making in a child's life. Also, the infertility has led you to better yourself in many ways health wise and mentally. Keep me posted as to how everything is going. I check in at least a couple of times a week if not more!

bibi1388 - April 27th, 2009 5:35 PM

Hi everyone hope you're all well and keeping your hopes up. I've been so busy I forgot to update everyone. I had a beautiful baby girl on Dec 18th. She's now 4 months its hard to believe. I am so grateful for her and try to remember everyday how lucky we are that she is here. My son adores her, and I think the 4 year age difference although not what I wanted ended up being good for us. I am enjoying her immensely, I am lucky enouth to have a boy and girl and I'm thankful for that. Throughout the whole pregnancy i had a feeling I was having a girl. I wish everyone here success in concieving, carrying to term and having healthy babies. Good Luck

Hello all. I am new to the post. After 2 miscarriages in late 2008 and early 2009, I found out that I have MTHFR. I do not know the type yet. I go back to the RE next Wednesday. I am taking Folcaps and my prenatals. Thanks for the posts. How long did you guys wait before you started TTC?

kriser04 - April 28th, 2009 9:48 PM

Hi, my name is Kris. I just found out today that I am an MTHFR carrier (compound hetero). My doctor called me and gave me the results of my blood tests over the phone. I have had two miscarriages. My first... I began bleeding during my 7th week. Upon further inspection, the fetus was only 4 weeks old. My second miscarriage... I made it to my first dr.'s appointment at 10 weeks. During the ultrasound, my doctor informed me that the fetus was not the size that it should be. After two more ultrasounds and a week of waiting and praying, my husband and I were informed that the fetus was only 4 1/2 weeks old. This pregnancy ended with a D&C. I have just began taking Folgard in addition to my prenatals. My doctor said that I will begin taking the lovenox after my next positive pregnancy test. I have to be honest... I am soooooo confused and scared about the result of MTHFR. I was wondering if anyone knew any good resources for my husband and I to read so that we actually know what we are dealing with.

bettyg - April 28th, 2009 11:09 PM

I just started getting email notices that people were posting to this thread so I thought I'd share my success story. After four miscarriages within 18 months, I finally had my baby girl last November. She's amazing.

Congratulations to those who have been successful and good luck to those who are still trying. I've told my whole story on the MTHFR Forum (if you search that it should come up) if anyone wants to see what I did.

Hopefully, the medical community will start taking this issue more seriously and come up with some answers to save more women from the heartache of miscarrying.

stefkay - April 29th, 2009 10:46 AM

bibi and bettyg, CONGRAULATIONS!!! :) I love to see good updates and it's also so helpful to the women who come here looking for answers. It just makes me tear up reading about the successes.CASSBOYD and KRISER I read up in internet searches a lot on MTHFR, but honestly got most of my help from a MTHFR thread that is on this miscarriage/loss forum. It is still here but it is super super long. It spans like 5 years or something like that. It is how I got all of my info on what to take, etc. I took a lot of the info to my doctors over the course of my miscarriages.

You know in reading for so long about other people's stories I can't help but see a major trend in those that end up doing the lovenox end up carrying a baby to term. There are so many doctors telling women that MTHFR is no big deal and won't prescribe the thinners but then I see threads like this that i guarantee doctors don't read (because it's not "scientific evidence") and it seems one after another of us do the lovenox and are successful. I know that is probably not all of it but the rest of our stories are similar too. Like so many here I would have these early losses around 6-10 weeks where the fetus was like 2 weeks behind or never made it past 5 weeks growth and so on. I just can't ignore what I've seen on these threads. I'm sure there is a lot more to it, but at any rate I am so happy to see us make it through. My dd is now babbling up a storm over here and pulling herself up on furniture. She's starting to crawl and gives the best hugs ever. Life is good :)

cassboyd - April 29th, 2009 9:09 PM

Thank you for your postive feedback. My doctor has not mentioned lovenoz. The only thing he told me is that I will take folcaps twice a day when I get a positive pregnancy test.
Kris, I completely understand what you are saying. I want to get pregnant so bad but I am so scared because we all know what can happen. We have to keep the faith. Did you doctor mention how long you would need to be on your medicine before you started TTC? Another friend told me today that she is pregnant (that is friend number 4 that is pregnant and I started before all of them).

kriser04 - April 29th, 2009 10:10 PM

cassboyd
From the very brief phone conversation that I had with my doctor, she informed me that I would start taking the Folgard ASAP (I started last night). As for the Lovenox... my D&C took place on Mar 17th. I have one more "regular cycle" to go before we can start trying again. She said that around 3 days before my missed period, I will begin taking pts on a daily basis. As soon as I have a positive result, I will begin the injections. Until then, I was advised to take my prenatals and the Folgard.

stefkay - April 30th, 2009 3:50 PM

Oh and I was going to post exactly what I took in my last pregnancy (the successful one :) I am heterozygous for the C6677T MTHFR as well. I started 300mg of prometrium daily (inserted vaginally) a couple of days after bfp. I took that until 14 weeks. Before I was pregant and through pregnancy I took a prenatal, 4-5mg extra of folic acid separately, B6, B12, omega 3 supplement, 1 baby aspirin, iodine supplement (this came from a holistic dr). At about 8 weeks pregnant after 2 good scans I still was worried so the dr. agreed to put me on a "prophylactic dose" of lovenox -- 40mg once daily. So it was harmless, but was a precaution and it made me feel MUCH better. I did those shots until 2 days before my induction. I also started fertility acupuncture 3 months prior to conceiving and continued it throughout my pregnancy. My acupuncturist also had me taking chinese herbs which comprised of a lot of ginger. I trusted her so I took them although my OB told me not to take herbs. My acupuncturist had been so successful with treating her patients that I decided to just keep with it. I also avoided caffeine and drank LOTS of water. Just good practice to keep the blood clean and flowing.

kriser04 - May 1st, 2009 8:30 AM

My biggest concern at this point I guess is... how will we know the correct dose of each of my treatments? I don't want to have to go through more miscarriages to find the right dose. Does anyone have any info/advice on how to make sure that I am getting the correct dosage now? My husband is pushing for me to schedule an appointment with my doc for Q&A. I'm beginning to think he is right.

stefkay - May 1st, 2009 5:53 PM

Dosage for what medicine? the lovenox? I'm sure your doc knows how much to put you on...as a compound hetero you'd probably be fine with the lowest 40mg, but somewhere in the middle would probably be best. It is a fairly safe drug from what I understand...way better than heparin which was used more in the past. I don't think you will m/c due to having a higher dose and even the lowest along with the baby aspirin should cover you well. My dr. explained it was important to take the baby aspirin too. I can't remember exactly why, but it was something like that helps with clots in the placenta. I'm not sure I can't remember. As for the Folgard I think that is preset and is probably ok. I took a LOT of folic and B6 and B12...like 5 mg a day of folic and the thing is with those vitamins you will just pee out what your body doesn't need/use so it's better to take a bit more than not enough you know? For me when I took the prometrium my doc started me on 200mg daily b/c that is what he does for most of his loss patients but he said sometimes he'd do 300. I asked to up to 300 for my peace of mind and he said ok. I took a 100mg tablet vaginally morning, noon and then at night before bed. Again, I don't think you can od on progesterone so if you use that just ask about 200 or more mg per day.

cassboyd - May 1st, 2009 7:12 PM

Kris, I agree with you completely about the dosage. My appointment with my RE is Wednesday. Whatever I learn I will let you know.

Have a great weekend!

cassboyd - May 11th, 2009 8:39 PM

Hello everyone. I had a very postive visit with my doctor. I really like him and feel so comfortable with him which is huge for me. I am now taking a baby aspirin a day along with my folcaps and prenatal vitamins. I will do the progestrone when I get pregnant and yes it will be inserted! Yikes! I had my levels tested again and everything was fine! I did find out that I got this from both parents. I honestly feel like I have been blessed to find this out now.

Kris, how are things going with you? A friend of mine that got pregnant the same time I did is having her baby tomorrow. Very hard to be happy.
