Hi ladies, Is there anyone that is trying to give up a bad habbit for better fertility and for a more successfull chance of carring full term? Fell free to join me. I have stoped drinking coffee for 6 days now and yes i do smoke. The day i get my BFP the cigerets are going in the bin! I have had 2 miscarriages one was last year which was a molar pregnancy and i lost my second in febuary 2006. I feel to give up smoking i need a very good insentive and that little bundle of joy will be it. I would love for anyone to join me as support buddies.

Hi Kristie! I myself do not smoke, but I have 2 quick stories for you. My sister in law smoked ALOT before she became pregnant (it was unplanned). As soon as she found out she quit without a second thought. She said it was surprisingly not as hard as she would have thought. Unfortunately, she did go back to smoking shortlt after giving birth. But one of my friends was also a very heavy smoker. She tried but could not quit during pregnancy, though she did cut back quite a bit. As soon as the baby was born she said she lost the desire to smoke. She has yet to smoke 1 cig and she gave birth in Nov!! (Her son was 4 weeks early and was very tiny). Good luck with your 'battle' (I don't know, would you call it that?) I would think that there's no better incentive to quit than a wee little one though!

Hi kristie and cbella. I am too trying to give up coffee, which is hard because I work overnights :) I find that decaf isnt that bad, but not the same... I am really trying though.... I am also trying to give up my bad food habits and eat healthier, and drink more water than pop, etc... I am being following by a dietician, which really helps :) Count me in as a support buddy!! I know what it is like to give up smoking, it took me a few tries, but I did it a couple of years back. I still smoke when I go out drinking, but I have stopped doing that recently (when I was pg before my m/c this winter). Have a nice night ladies, hope to hear from you soon!! Kristie, good luck with breaking the coffee habit!

Hi Jessie, Its great to have your company. Congrats on giving up the smokes i have tried but never sucseded so hopfully this we make me determind. The coffee is hard too. I have had realy bad headacks that dreain energy out of you and i hate it, they are starting to subside now though. Jessie i too am beging to watch everything i put into my body i even try to go for walks everyday now. I can see why u smoke when you drink thats when the cravings are at their peek. What did you go through when you gave up smoking and how long did the side effects last for?

kristie h - April 5th, 2006 7:53 PM

Hi Jessie, Also now that i havent had a coffee for about 6 days my body feels cleaner and i dont get that awfull taste in my mouth that it leaves. My stomach looks like its not bloated like it was. Maybe instead of going for a cup of have a tea and i know you can vitamins to give you more energy if that helps. It would be hard for the shift you do work. I have red that caffeine can actually increase the lenghth of becoming pregnant i dont know how true that is though. Look foward to hearing from you good luck!

jessie - April 6th, 2006 1:22 AM

Hi Kristie, how are you and how is the not-drinking-coffee? LOL... I didn't have many symptoms after giving it up, just feel more tired, and, of course, deprived. From what I have read, drinking lots of coffee can adversely affect conception, so I gave it up just in case, on weekends I work overnights and used to drink A TON! It's good that you are watching what you eat, I am trying LOL but I had trouble last night and ate 2 donuts, and 2 other ones just now!!! So, are you ttc now? If so, where are you in your cycle and are you dong anything like charting or checking cm? Me, I had a m/c in February, and this is my first month of ttc.
(my previous pregnancy was a surprise) I am still a newbie at this but getting better! When I gave up cigarettes, I had headaches and I wouldn't sleep, but the worst was over in about a week or so. Then is when the harder part started - breaking the habit LOL! I was such a social smoker, like at coffee breaks. I stopped taking my breaks completely, as I could not go outside w/o smoking, I would just cave in and smoke... I feel better now, and saving the $ is cool too. I live in Montreal CDA, so there will be no smoking in restaurants soon enough and cigarettes cost 9$ CDN a pack about, it is getting harder and harder to smoke. I am glad I gave it up, though my husband smokes. When I was pregnant, he took to smoking outside, which was way cool! But he started up again in the house after I had my m/c.. :( SO that will be an added bonus of getting pg again, that he will stop smoking around me, it is always tempting!!! Take care and have a nice (coffee-free) day!

Hi jessie, I onlt chck my cm, I have a son that is 15 months old and it has only taken me 3-4 months to fall pregos with all the pregnancy. When i had my son i was working i only drunk coffee at work and it wouldnt cross my mind when i got home. Today i had a bad headack they are draining me so bad. They have stoped smoking in pubs clubs andf resturants here in Australia and for a packet of 50 cigaretts you will pay about 15$ I buy 50gm tobaco and they cost me 20$ but i only go though 1 packet a week. Do you have any other kids? It would be hard for you mainky having a partner that smokes and i think its going to be hard and my hubby has never had a ciggy in his life you have will power you go girl!!! Talk soon Cheers

Jessie i forgot to answer your queation. I lost my baby in feb too and spotted on the 25 and 26 march then they actually came on the 27 march. How do you chart? I only check my cm, I was doing the whole calendar thing b4 i fell preg to the one i just lost for 3 months then gave up then what did i know i was pregnant. I do chart but i find when i do it never happens it happens when i make it become second nature. How far along were you? How long did it take for you to become pregnant?

Hey girls, hope you don't mind me jumping in! I am a smoker of like 14 years, started when I was like 14-15. I just tried a couple weeks ago to quit for the first time, not working. I am going to try the patches for like morning times as I find that the hardest. I only drink 2-3 cups of joe in the morning. I am going to fucus on stopping the smoke habit again starting this week, glad someone started a thread! I am also overweight a bit. I am afraid that if I quit smoking I will get even heavier, which isn't good either. I really want to quit as I am tired of the smell all over and the bad taste it leaves. And my 6 yr old son is after me now too and that really makes me think!! I smoked while pg for him, cut down on the amount I smoked, thankfully he was fine. But what if he wasn't, I don't want to worry about that in a future pregnancy, so it is a very good incentive!! Lets help each other as much as we can. You know it is a good sign when we admit that we know we need to quit and ask for help!!

littleangel - April 6th, 2006 7:43 AM

Hi Suzzie, i am glad you can join us. I also smoked when my first lil boy and ppl say that when you some while pregnant that the baby is born under weight he was 8 pound 6! And b4 i was pregnant with him i weighed 54kg. I know what you mean about your child making you think twice about smoking, my son is not at that age yet but sometimes i hide in the loo so i get to have a somke in peace and i feel awfull. So how long have you been ttc for? I lost my 2nd baby in feb and i have had 1 af since the miscarriage so i am well on my way ttc. Do you chart? suzzieq - April 7th, 2006 6:41 AM

Hi Kristie! Before I got pg this last time, I had been trying off and on for over 6 years!! We wanted another baby soon after ds was born=:) That didn't work out. So it has been march and now April that we have been trying again. But March was no good as my hormones were not negative until the very last part of march or so. I am charting again this month. I keep track of cm and cp. I started temping but that just confuses me..lol. As far as my weight goes, I guess it is not good to diet while trying to get pg, so I am just trying to make better judgements on what I eat. I do need to start taking daily walks again, as that alone seemed to help me feel better. I am hoping charting works for me, as I never did it before!! Wishing all you girls the best of luck!!!!!!!!!!

kristie h - April 7th, 2006 7:03 AM

Hi suzzie, the cp confusses me i did start to chart my temps but that confused me too. I am starting my daily walks and i feel good afterwards as i know i may not be losing weight but i am working all my body. I have a son too he is 15 months old. sorry if this is TMI but sumtimes i do check my cp and last night it didnt feel as though there was a slit in it, it felt round like when you put your lips out to and push your fingers on
on your lips lol i dont know how else to explain but is that normal? Its good that you are not dieting but are watching what you eat you go girl! Trying for 6 years is a long time did you ever get a fertility test? Just curious. I have heard that after having a baby or a miscarriage you fall preg faster dont no how true it ibut i hope it happens fater for you this time.well talk to you soon baby dust.

littleangel - April 7th, 2006 7:12 AM

hi kristie, i when i 1st fell on pg i never charted or check my cm, as i did not know how to. this time i think i will go with OPK test and do it that way, i would forget to take my temp and check my cm everyday. i am on by 3rd Af since my m/c so yo never know May might be my mth i think i will need a lot of the baby dust as well, take care jo.

kristie h - April 7th, 2006 7:24 AM
