I know there were some women around here who, at a few months along (NOT EARLY PLEASE, BECAUSE THERE IS A COMMON EXPLANATION FOR THAT!) thought they were pregnant but had negative blood tests, negative urine tests, and something like a period, but then turned out to be pregnant. I thought maybe since they had the bleeding that seemed lke their period, they waited too long to test and then the levels were so high that the test could not detect them. I read about it and it's called the "hook effect". So, could anybody who had bleeding and negative blood and pee tests and then ended up pregnant please speak up and talk about it? I think it happens more often than we realize. I think if it happened to me I would go back to all the sites I had been asking at and try to let everyone know that instincts can be trusted sometimes over the status quo. So, I kind of wish these women would find a minute to do that for us! :)

Me too! I am 20 DPO and had a blood test yesterday that was negative, but if I'm not pregnant, then something is seriously wrong!

The nurse taking my blood told me she had repeated negative blood tests with her first pregnancy until FIVE months, when they finally confirmed it. My best friend never could get a positive HPT but had a healthy baby. I myself have had periods before during my two pregnancies (one daughter, now 2; one m/c). I had a period last week that was very strange; heavy for the first day, then light and sporadic and much shorter than normal. Ever since, I've had that dull achy bloated feeling like AF is about to start, but of course, it's not. The only other times I've had these symptoms at the "wrong" time of the month was during pregnancy. I am seeing an RE and just completed a cycle of injectibles plus HCG, so I am positive of when I ovulated.

My question: has anyone experienced all three of these things -- a period, a negative HPT and a negative blood test -- but still ended up being pregnant?

We are prepping for IVF in December, but I sure do feel pregnant now. Anybody had negatives across the board, only to be surprised? If so, how did you finally confirm it and at how many weeks/months?

Hey yall heres my story.I can't even begin to explain the agony that I'm feeling right now! I'm so hopeless, tormented and just want to die. Well I went thinking everything was gonna be ok like about 2 hrs. ago and to my surprise, I'm not pregnant!!! t's hurts to even say those words now. Because I never imagined the imaginable. I'm so depressed I literally want to die because I feel there is no hope in life without kids. I don't know what to think, feel, say or do anymore. I know that this must have happened for a reason but why I ask God. As soon as she said that it was negative my heart went into my throat and felt like I was being suffocated. I tried holding back the tears of sorrow and just wept out of control. I couldn't believe my eyes or ears as to what she was saying. But somewhere deep inside me I still think I'm pregnant and seriously it's not even wishful thinking or anyhting but I honestly still think I'm pregnant. I mean I've read so many stories on women that have had negative blood test but still were. I'm not all that hysterical or anything to be honest I'm just wondering why??? Someone please answer as to this situation! Thank you so much and God Bless!

Also forgot to put that I'm 17-19 weeks exactly today and my belly is huge with the black ine and stretch marks and loads of vaginal discharge, constipation, always hungry, melon like breasts, stomach is hardened and ver round, and look like a pizza face! Now tell me I'm not going crazy and I am pregnant!!!

Please read my post on your other thread. I think you many of these symptoms could be psychological. You need to see a medical doctor, not planned parenthood. A urine test would pick up a pregnancy at 17 weeks. Something else could be wrong.

Sorry, I meant blood test, not urine.

Hello, Ladies, I am so glad that I came to this site. I have found some people that are riding in the same boat I am in now. I have taken 2 hpt and both were negative. I have taken 1 blood test that was negative and I have had my cycle for 2 months. They don't seem like the cycles I usually have, but sometimes I think my mind is just telling me that. I honestly feel pregnant. I have never been pregnant before, so it is hard for me to go off of instinct. I am having all the symptoms of pregnancy, except for morning sickness. My boobs are huge and the area around my nipple is so dark and it is spreading. From time to time by boobs itch. Also, my lower back has pain and I feel flutters and different movement happening in my lower ab area. I feel nausea and I get extra salava in my mouth that has me feeling like I need to spit. I got varacose veins in my inner thighs that I have never had in my entire life. I mean, I could go on and on....not to mention that my stomach is starting to stick out and it itch all the time. I don't know what to do. I am lost and I am glad that I have found some people to discuss this with. I wished I knew whether I was, so that I could prepare and get some medical care. I will keep you all posted though because I believe that one day I will find out. Maybe my period will stop or maybe a test will finally show positive. I was thinking that I should go in for an ultra sound??

Daile - October 28th, 2004 4:26 AM

Chris, if your stomach is sticking out and you feel movement, I would say you definitely need to get to a doctor and have an ultrasound done. You're either pregnant, imagining it, or the star of Alien. ;)

Lakindal - October 31st, 2004 2:00 PM

I went to the doctor yesterday (10/30/04) because my period is two weeks late. I took a pregnancy test but the results were negative and I was so hurt because I was almost positive that I was pregnant and I really wanted to be. I have been pregnant twice, one child and a misscarriage so I know the symptoms. My breast are sore, I sleep a lot, I feel flutters in my stomach, i urinate more, the mood swings are starting, headaches, and a number of other things. I haven't taken a blood test yet because my doctor said come back if I miss 2 more periods (I think thats way to long to wiat). On the other hand, I have a cyst and the only time I have cysts is when I'm pregnant and doctor has me taking a medication that should never be given during pregnancy. Can someone give me some advice cause I'm almost 100% positive that I am pregnant?

Kelly - November 2nd, 2004 1:32 PM

I've been reading a lot of forums like this one today and am now very confused. I have never been pregnant before so I don't know what it feels like but for the last month I have been waking up with nasea and vomiting. I had breast tenderness which has gone away and have noticed that I have been very emotional lately more than normal. It kind of reminds me of when I started taking the pill for the first time I had so many mood swings. I was due for my period last week and got it a little early but it was very abnormal. I had very light spotting for 2 days and then bled realatively heavy for about a day and a half and then it stopped. My periods always last at least 5 days very heavy. I've taken a urine and a blood test both said negative but I am still waking up sick everyday. Certain smells make me sick and I have felt very drained. The doctor's checked for other possiblities and can't explain the reasoning for my sickness. Everyone was suprised when the blood test came back negative because they said it really sounds like pregnancy. I just don't know what to think. I wasn't trying to get pregnant so I'm not imagining it. They say blood tests can't be wrong but after reading the different discussion groups they are more than we think. If anyone has had similar experiences where they were infact pregnant I would appreciate any input or advise you may have for me. Thanks

clare - November 2nd, 2004 2:23 PM

i dont know how to answer any of your questions but im having the same symptoms. i have 5 children and my youngest is just gone 1, ive been trying to get pregnant since my youngest was about 4 months but to no avail according to my periods. the last 3 to 4 months have been different with my periods being late then early light then heavy, ive done hpt which have all been negative but for the last few days ive started to feel movement no other symptoms though apart from feeling a bit sickly in the mornings. you probably think im stupid seeing as ive had 5 children already but im really wondering if i could be pregnant.. any imput would be appreciated

Chris S - November 4th, 2004 12:17 PM

Well, Clare, I don't think you are stupid because I know that every preg can be different. Now, I don't have any kids(?yet?), but I am in the same boat and I feel where you are coming from as far as not knowing and having symptoms. I am very seriously trying to wait it out, but it is eating at me everyday. I think I will choose a diff doc to go to and see if he can give me an ultrasound. Good luck though!! Also to Daile, that was a good one...lol

vickie - November 4th, 2004 11:48 PM

I don’t know if this will help but when I was preg with my son I didn’t find out until I was about 4 mths preg. I had periods for the first 3 mths and 3 neg urine test and 2 neg urine test at the doc’s. I spread the test out over the 3 mths. I knew I was preg I felt it in my body and the only symptoms I had was tiredness and nauseas which turned into vomiting after my positive preg test. I also felt these flutters not like a moving baby but flutters earlier on in the pregnancy. I am starting to feel the same way all over again but this time my period was late it did not come until oct 22 and it was so light I did not know what to consider it. I usually get my period every month within the first week. It is nov and I still haven’t had anymore bleeding. My last reg period was Sept. 4- 9 I went and got a blood test. I have already taken urine test again all neg. I will not be surprised if the blood test is also neg. I don’t have the same doctor from last time and she said it is unlikely that I am pregnant because of the bleeding in oct she said that she would consider the light bleeding a period. but after I told her my story she was really surprised. I think doctors just go by the stereotypical facts. You would think after all those years in school they would at least know that every woman’s body is different when they are pregnant. Until you all know for sure that you are pregnant just make sure you take caution with your bodies and stay healthy. Good luck .

Ashley - November 6th, 2004 12:54 AM

Well, I am a 21yr old mother of two. I have a two year old son and a baby girl that I gave birth to on my 21st b-day 8mos ago. Ever since I have been on the patch and both times I was prego I knew due to my stomach going up and down when ever I would lay on my back and hold my breath it would be the baby's heart beat and I knew becuse it would beat faster then my heart. So for the last few months I have had my period for four days but it would be like but I feel prego and my grandmother asked me was I then my baby's father is al ways sleeping like he did with my other kids So is it possible yo be prego and still have your cycle becusae with my other two my period stoped.

Michele - November 6th, 2004 7:09 PM

Sorry, but I can't answer any of the questions. I have a problem too. My husband and I have been trying to concieve since June, with no avail. My period was due on Oct 19 and it didn't come (my period comes every 28 days),so I took a HPT and it was neg. On Oct 25 I had a blood test done. Later that day I had some brownish discharge that lasted a few days, it then turned more like a period (heavier) for a few days, then very light for a few more days, in total lasting for 8 days in total. My Dr finally called me on Nov 4th to say that my HCG levels were low and to have another blood test done. I did it on Nov 5 and should have the results on Nov 7. I am trying not to get my hopes up, but it is so hard. I feel bloated and i have breast tenderness, but really no other symptoms. Any thoughts?

Dee - November 8th, 2004 5:12 PM

I've been wondering about this "periods during pregnancy" as well. The last couple months I have 2 "regular" periods (w/ bleeding) but they were very short (just 1-2 days of bleeding). And that is unusual for me.
My symptoms are....heavy, very very sore breasts, Montgomery's tubercles are enlarged (those lil bumps around the nipples), darkened areolas, tingling nipples, went from size D to DD, nausea, constipation, heartburn, gassy, and that "feeling" in my pelvis (kind of bloaty, pulling, cramping) and it feels hard just above my pubic bone.
I've taken 4 or 5 pregnancy tests and they've been negative. I've had 3-4 people on occassion just out of the blue say I looked pregnant and asked me if I was pregnant. Go figure.
