Phantom Pregnancy - are we all having them? negative pregnancy test results, looking and feeling like we are pregnant. They say its RARE, so why are so many women getting negative pregnancy tests? How would one know if they are having a phantom pregnancy or if they are just pregnant with a negative test? How many phantom pregnancies are out there?

lol, maybe we are!!!! but i have thought the same thing myself, ive noticed a lot women dont let us know the outcome of their missed periods it would be interesting to find out how many are actually pregnant. im still 2 weeks late with negative results so i guess only time will tell! will ley ya know!!!!

Lily - September 2nd, 2005 10:59 AM

Not sure but I am 2 weeks late for my period taken 2 home pregnancy tests which came out negative and I am going to my doctor on Tuesday for a blood test. I will let you all know how it turns out. I am experiencing major pregnancy symptoms, and I just know I am pregnant. My Fiance thinks so too.... maybe it's just wishful thinking

It doesn't help that drs look at you like you're nuts! Some of us haven't found a dr who will do a u/s unless you get a + test, which sometimes never happens ( especially if you are one of the rare women who still have periods when pregnant), We'll have to have the baby before we can update you, since the drs don't believe us!

Right! What is the deal with this....I am two weeks late now, never late, symptoms, yada, yada....Dr. told me wait a few more days, test again...its insane! I have found little or no prof. literature on this phenominon. I would like to know the stats on this are and what % of women w/symptoms, missed cycles etc...go on to acutally be preg. Hpt's are supposed to be more that 99% effective???????

Kacey - September 2nd, 2005 6:15 PM

Wow...that would suck! I am also almost two weeks late with neg. hpts (of course). Good luck.

just a thought - September 2nd, 2005 9:40 PM

hey ever think that the people who make the home pregnancy test make them so that they would turn out negative so they can buy more to keep testing?

Amanda - September 3rd, 2005 5:05 AM

Hey everyone well i have missed 2 periods now and still get negative hpt's! Im suppose to be going to get a blood test! My last period was June 24th!

jules - September 3rd, 2005 5:43 AM

a few people ive spoke to have had negative hpts for the first couple of months! then got a positive? makes ya think about the 99% doesnt it ?

Liz - September 5th, 2005 11:04 AM

Well, I usually have a 28 cycle... I was 2 weeks late and still testing neg, I went to the doctor, who said from my symtoms I was probably pregnant, so I relaxed happily, only for my period to start the next day! :-(

jules - September 5th, 2005 1:08 PM

awww liz what a bummer! but im begining to think im going down that path now, just over 2 weeks late and negative again today!!! i think maybe for the first time in history im just gonna have a late period without being pregnant! there wasnt even the faintest of positives!
i have been taking the fertility drug clomid for a few months now and i just thought it may have worked but i really dont think thats the case :(
will certainly let you know one way or the other ya never know i may be suprised good luck x

Liz - September 6th, 2005 10:15 AM

I hope so for you Jules! Next time I am gonna not test till at least 2 weeks late... testing is torture isnt it? I was all over the place, feeling sick, tired, constipated, salivating, bloated, cravings, headaches... I was so sure.. and when the period came it was very light so then I wondered if it wasnt even my period! But I ovulated and am now having another period!

jules - September 7th, 2005 6:21 PM

ok still no sign of period , i have just read an interesting fact though(if it is fact?)on a website called FAQ farm it states that if you get a positive test result it is 99.9% accurate but.........if you get a negative result its only 50% accurate! whats all that about???

Celia - September 8th, 2005 2:36 AM

I am having the same thought. Maybe I'm just having a phantom pregnancy. I haven't had a period since late June, but am having a few pregnancy symptoms.(This is my second pregnancy.)However I have done 5 hpts, all negative. Going to doc next week for a blood test, hopefully that will clear everything up. Good luck to all of you.

Jeana - September 8th, 2005 2:59 AM

I might be a little early on joining up in this thread, but I am having the same problem. I KNOW I am pg'd! I have two children already...I've been there. I have 2 VERY faint positives with First Response Early, but I am not really digging the FR. I've heard so many bad things about it and I don't really trust it. I took an Equate (Walmart) today and got a neg. I was due for af today, but with my son, I tested pos with Equate on the first day of missed period. I have every symptom in the book, yet I can't get a REAL answer. I'm going to stop testing and wait it out. When I am 3 weeks late, I will go to the doc, but until then, I am on testing strike!

jules - September 8th, 2005 8:17 AM

ok two more negatives today ! thats it!!! no more buying hpt's im sick to death of wasting my money got a dr's app. monday morning so i will see what they say!

me - September 8th, 2005 8:50 AM

If pregnant, I would be 27 weeks. My urine pregnancy tests are -- I haven't had a blood pt yet.
