Yes, you can get pregnant with an IUD, but it's about a 1% chance. If you suspect that you are pregnant and you have an IUD it is VERY important to see a doctor RIGHT AWAY, especially if you are considering keeping the baby. If you wait too long you may not have a choice about whether or not to keep the baby.

,she asked me to wait for 3 more weeks>I have gas problem, vomitting feeling..but not vomitting, tired,my abdomen is heavy, and i have vaginal pain(like a pull).I took 4 pregnancy test came negative.

Honestly, I have no idea what could be causing you to not have a period. You could be pregnant or it could be something else. I would suggest going back to the doctor or calling an advice nurse line, most doctors offices have an advice nurse or an advice nurse line. Explain to them how worried to you, also webMD.com is a really useful website. Anytime you've had sex and then missed a period there is a chance that you could be pregnant. A doctor is the only person that can give you the correct type of diagnosis or advice.

Good luck!

Jess: Nothing yet! My appt. is on the 10th of this month (Monday). I went to the ER on Friday...bad cramping. Dr. did a urine test...negative...pelvic exam said nothing abnormal...said it was just a abnormal period, and told me that i should retest in a week because i could be in my early pregnancy. I did talk to a friend who has been trying to get pregnant for years...she says you can only get pregnant within a certain time period of the month (within ten days after your period). So i think i had my period the first or second week of august, this would mean I got pregant between 8/10-8/18, which would make me around 6 weeks right now. So I am going to wait until Monday to see my regular doc, and ask for a blood test. My symptoms have kinda went away...still nauseated ocassionally...tired all the time, still clear discharge (not as often)...cramps...headaches...no tender breasts. This is driving me crazy not knowing!!! Will keep you all updated!!!

OK, the time that you can get pregnant depends on when you ovulate. Most women ovulate 12-16 days before their period (about halfway through their cycle). You can only get pregnant when you ovulate (release an egg). You would know when you ovulate if you've had a regular period that comes every 28 days (or what ever is normal for you). 2 weeks before your period you ovulate, if that egg isn't fertilized, you have a period. Also, a lot of women will have "late" periods, by just a few days or a couple weeks. These periods are often very early miscarriages, and most women are not even aware that they were pregnant. I hope this helps you.

Morgan, thanks for your kind reply. I decided to wait for another 2 weeks according to my docor's advice. I had left ovary pain too. Me and my hubby are worried but we are ready to wait and see . I will post you after i see the doctor.

I know, it's SO scary when you're having these types of problems. After I had my IUD put in, I thought I was going crazy. The pain was TERRIBLE. I've had a baby (naturally), and thought if I could do that, nothing could be as bad. Well, this cramping and pain was just horrible. About 2 months later I had a miscarriage. I had NO idea I was pregnant, the miscarriage shocked me. I was heart broken. And, of course, the doctors didn't have much to say. I have a midwife, who delivered my son, and our old insurance would only cover her if I was pregnant and reciving pre-natal care, our new insurance will let me go to her whenever I need to. So, I'm making an appointment with her to get checked out. Honestly, if your insurance will cover it, if you're planning to get pregnant, I would reccomend a mid-wife. They have just about all of the training as a doctor, and have liberties at whatever local hospital, so that you can deliver at a hospital. Where a doctor will be on hand in case of complications. It was my first, and I had the easiest labor. She was amazing with all the female problems. We are planning to get pregnant again soon, and I can't wait to see her again! Good luck, and remember, you (or your insurance) is paying the doctor a LOT of money, make your he/she is answering all your questions fully.

Nila to Morgan - October 6th, 2005 4:35 PM

Hi Morgan, I feel happy with your reply. Actually i want to get pregnant and have baby. After loosing one baby i am crazy........I am new to this country(USA). So i don't know much abt this place. I think my Insurence covers all the expenses. I am scared b'cos my sister too had 2 miscarriages. Both of us have Pcos. I will ask my hubby abt the midwifes. Thank you very much for posting reply.

Clarrie - October 6th, 2005 5:08 PM

Hoping someone here can help! I had my IUS (Mirena) removed in June, and started my periods again shortly after. They had stopped more or less while I had the IUS in, but before that they were as regular as clockwork (and extremely heavy into the bargain - part of the reason I had the IUS). My partner and I are now trying for another baby, but my periods are strange and I have a negative pregnancy test. The last period came on time, but was a lot lighter than normal (despite the two before that being very heavy as usual) and this time, I got cranky and crampy but no period. It's only several days past the due date, but is it possible that I am pregnant? In addition, halfway through my last cycle I had a little spotting, which I have never had before. Yet the pregnancy tests say negative. Also, I am headachey and tired. Incidentally, I have never missed a period before. I already have a son,so you'd think I would know about this (!) but this time we're actively trying and so are watching everything! Any thoughts? Much appreciated.

Can You get Pregnant With Out Having a Prriod?

Morgan to Clarrie - October 6th, 2005 7:44 PM

It is possible you are pregnant. If you are in the US, most over the counter pregnancy tests don't show positive until a higher amount of hormones is found in your urine. I would suggest a few things: Make a doctors appointment, at that appointment ask for a urine pregnancy test (the tests used by doctors are MUCH more sensative then the over the counter ones), if it comes negative wait 1 week. If still no period test again, if negative go to the doctor and ask for a blood test. Have him/her test for ANY amount of the human growth hormone, some women just don't produce enough to get a postive result. If still negative, wait until your next period is supposed to start, if it doesn't take another test, if negative ask for an ultrasound to be sure. Good luck!!

Thanks to all of you. I am 2 weeks late, two home pregnancy tests later.Still negative. I totally PMS'ed but then, nothing happened. I am worried but reading all your comments made me feel better. I already have a 4 year old and I don't know if I am pregnant but my boyfriend thinks I am nuts right now cause I still think I can be pregnant after 2 negative tests. Not being pregnant would make me more worried cause it would mean something is wrong with my thyroid or that I have cysts or whatever else it could be. I will wait of course but it is stressing me out. Thanks to all of you for all the support you have given eachother. Hang in there...I will try to be patient.

Elizabeth - October 7th, 2005 12:09 AM

I missed my period, but I don't really have any pregnancy symptoms and the test came out negative on Monday. I sort of crave salty foods though. Could it be that I am pregnant?

Katie - October 7th, 2005 12:52 PM

I had unprotected sex around he days of ovulation. Two weeks after that, I started to have pregnancy symptoms> nausea, freq. peeing, food cravings, headaches, tired. I am a week late on my period. I have taken two preg. test but both are negative. Could I still be pegnant?

Dana - October 7th, 2005 9:54 PM

I'm nearly a month late with my period, I have sore breasts, bloating, and constipation, and I have to pee all the time, I've also been out of breath lately, especially climbing up stairs, and my back has been killing me. I'm also irritable and my face is breaking out...I've done 4 hpts and one blood test, all have been negative....at least I think the blood test was, she said the HGC (I think thats what she said) was under 5.
