I'm not sure I have polycystic ovaries because every single test I've had done (ultrasounds, blood tests for all levels of hormones, FSH, LH and all the others) have come back normal!! If this next ultrasound comes back normal I won't know what to do from there! Even the blood test for insulin came back in normal range (wouldn't that rule out PCOS)! They found one small cyst on my left ovary which they said was insignificant. This is so annoying. My mother was set-your-watch-to-it regular every 28 days. My grandmother had endometriosis and have to have a hysterectomy at age 40. So what's my deal?

LauraLynn, I really do feel for you and understand your frustration. I have wanted a baby for a long time myself, even though we just started trying as of late. Okay, so you are not pregnant. Some women on these forums really are. Hopefully sometime soon you will be. In your situation the negative test was right. I in no way want to give you false hopes, especially with your history, but pregnancy symptoms don't occur until later in some women. That's just FYI. I was just sort of shocked to see you so adamantly insistant about there being no possiblity of negative blood test results and pregnancy. The fact is, it does happen. Maybe not in your case, but it does. I am personally holding on to hope. Maybe it would help you to have a little more hope in your thoughts about pregnancy. I know it is agonizing. I am feeling so much frustration over this every day. Could I have a phantom pregnancy? Sure. Could a really be pregnant? Yes. The fact is YOU NEVER KNOW. I am exactly as late as you are and I have to hope for something. I am NEVER late and very regular. And my being late coincides with TTC last month. Coinsidence? Maybe, maybe not. I understand that you had a strong opinion about this subject probably because you have had painful situations in the past. I am personally keeping all options open for myself, good or bad, as emotionally draining as that may be. I wish you luck in your future efforts. And it really wouldn't hurt to try your hardest to relax...they say that is when the magic happens. Good luck.

My sis-in-law has polysistic ovarian syndrome. Sounds to me like you do not have it, but you never know. In her case, she had incredible mood swings, like PMS multiplied by 10. She was very hard to be around. She also gained A LOT of weight and even extra hair than normal on her face and neck. She is fine now and has to take the pill to regulate her periods. In her case, she didn't have periods at all for around a year. Sounds like your better off than that, so that's good. And yes, I do know that stress plays a big part in your cycle, and everything else for that matter. I am not doubting your situation at all. It happens to the best of us. But I just don't think it applies in my situation, that's all. I wasn't stressed. I would have to say I am more stressed now that I am three weeks late with negative results. But honestly, when I was supposed to start, I felt cramps and was ready for it to come. When it didn't, I was truly surprised. Another thing is, I can feel when I ovulate and noticed that this month I didn't feel a thing. Just makes we wonder, negative tests or not. Sorry I am so long-winded...I am a writer w/ an Eng. Lit. degree......

LauraLynn, have you ever considered alternative options like yoga, meditation, or accupuncture? I am not too big on any of those but I do a little yoga and meditation and they are great for relaxation. You can also do a lot with a healthy diet full of fresh fruits and veggies too. Is your job stressful? Just trying to help you find other ways to rid yourself of stress, if you in fact don't have PCOS, or even if you do for that matter.

Wow! This topic is hot!..
So.. I'm feeling alot better knowing that I'm not the only one going through similar things. I am 21 years old, And I am 2 and half months late on my on period. I didn't start having pregnancy symptoms till about 2-3 weeks ago.. It started out with discomfort, like I would start my period - never happened. Last week, I had a series of really bad headaches (i never get headaches normally). And right after that, for about 4-5 days I had strong nausea everytime after I ate, or consumed anything.. accompanied with some dizziness. I have taken a total of 5 pregnancy test, all within the last 3 weeks.. one I took earlier today.. They are all NEGATIVE! I have been pregnant once before about 3 years ago, and I had an abortion early into it. I've never been on birth control, and my periods are usually very regular. I haven't missed a period in a long time.
Now.. I haven't been to the doctor yet, because of insurance issues.. and being able to afford it uninsured. The only thing I can think of, is going to the ER, and making them take a blood test, and do a pelvic exam. I HATE hospitals, they scared me.. and recently I have been stressed out to the MAX over this, because I'm dreading that something is really wrong.
I have been reading all of your post, and I find some of the information comforting, but I haven;t really heard what most of your outcomes were? Does anyone have any advice for me, on how to go about setting up to see someone while being uninsured and not wealthy? Has anyone experience my exact symptoms, with an outcome? I was planning on just going to the ER right now, even though I am not in any real pain... Mainly because I talked to a hospital nurse yesterday, explaining my symptoms to her, and she told me from what I have explained to her, that I most likely am experiencing an Ectopic Pregnancy. Which REALLY freaked me out, I don't know how I can handle that emotionally.. Does anyone think I should go ahead and go to the ER asap? Or hold off and try to make a doctors appointment?

LauraLynn - June 26th, 2007 8:39 AM

Well, I'm not pregnant (of course). Still no period, so I'm thinking I just skipped a cycle. This is so unfair. Doctor said that weight loss (or weight gain) along with with stress can cause cycles to be off. Also found out estrogen is stored in fat cells, so if you're overweight this can mess up your periods. Conclusion: I guess right now I'm too fat and too uptight to have a baby right now. I guess the whole thing has been my fault all along.

reneenay - June 26th, 2007 1:15 PM

Wendiew, I thought of a possible option for you. How about planned parenthood? That might work. I also noticed that a lot of the women on here just spilled their guts and then disappeared, leaving us with a big tease as to what actually happened. I will keep you posted and it would be great if you could do the same. It would really be a great support to me! I am starting to go insane...my story is 11 entries above this one. Update: still no period, with weird mentrual type cramps. I will hit the one late month mark on June 3rd. I'll let you know if I skip another AF. Then I am really going to start to wonder...good luck!

reneenay - June 26th, 2007 4:57 PM

Wendyw, I have been reading the very long thread with the question posted by Catherine, titled, "Was pregnant but had negative tests- ladies please share!" I discovered that there are several women on there who actually did end up pregnant, and some did not. It looks like our chances are about 50/50, not to intentionally add to your anxiety level. I also read that around 25% of all pregnancies start off with very low levels of Hcg, and therefore are not detected by HPT's or blood tests, especially those qualitative ones. So, if you can, go somewhere where you can get an ultra-sound...it's really the only sure thing! I read that it will detect an embyo at 6 -8 weeks late. I'll be 7 weeks late when I go next month...this is if AF doesn't arrive. Hope this helps, and I hope to hear back from some of you ladies on this forum! I need some support!

wendiw - June 27th, 2007 6:05 AM

Ok guys, Its 4:55am here, and I just got back from the ER.. It took hours for them to tell me anything. To tell you the truth, I am still confused.. They did a urine test, and a blood test, and both came back negative. The doctor told me that she is sure that I am NOT pregnant. But thats all she told me. She referred me to a OBGYN, and I will be scheduling an appointment asap (hopefully I can afford this). She also told me she thinks this has something to do with a hormonal imbalace. They did not do a pelvic exam.. So I could have a cysts, or it could be something more simple than that. I am confused because I have been reading your posts.. and i have done some research, I remember hearing about girls going in with negative blood test and pregnancy test, and later still being pregnant. So I will keep everyone posted. It might take a week or two to get an appointment, but You will hear back from me. Keep posting!

LauraLynn - June 28th, 2007 12:27 PM

I went to the doctor after being almost three weeks late. I'm not pregnant. According to the fertility and obgyn doctor I saw yesterday I am not ovulating (and maybe never ever have been). Also I was told my uterus is too small (only 7 cm). This is another reason the doctor suspects I have never had an ovulation cycle. That and the fact I
didn't start have periods until I was 14 (which is late). I was told my hypothalamus does not send signals to my ovaries to release eggs (I produce them but never release them).

This can be fixed (so the doctors tell me). I'm on a really strict diet now (they've cut off all sugar, caffeine and carbs completely). They think weight loss might get me ovulating. If that doesn't work they'll put me on clomid (a drug to stimulate ovulation).

LauraLynn - July 2nd, 2007 9:11 AM

OK. AF started on June 30, only four weeks late. I know this is because there's too much stuff stored up and has to come out, not because I ovulated (because I didn't). The doctor told me I had not. I'm about 30 lbs overweight, so my doctor thinks losing the weight will help. I hope so. I just want to be functioning properly at this point. For all you ladies that are missing periods but are not pregnant--do you carry most of your weight around the middle? If so have a blood check to see if your insulin levels are normal. If there is too much insulin in your blood, you might have a condition called insulin resistance, where you body produces too much insulin. That keeps you from ovulating. I've been diagnosed with this also. Weight loss, exercise and a healthy diet can get rid of this though. Your body can heal from it, but it's important to take care of it now because if left untreated it can cause other health problems (diabetes, heart disease, etc).

jaylynae - July 8th, 2007 8:03 PM

LoveALotGirl - September 10th, 2007 4:15 AM

Hey everyone... New to this... Can anyone help me out... My last period was Jul 27, my periods are not regular so I don't know if I am late or pregnant... I usually get cramps & sore breasts when I'm going to start but none of that happened... I had what I think was Implantation bleeding on about Aug 22-24 somewhere around there (had unprotected sex w/bf about 10days befor this happened), It was very light pink & only noticed it when I went to the bath room a few times out of the 3 days, my periods last from 5-6 days... I think I should have had my period by now... When I had what I think was implantation bleeding, I kinda thought that my period wasn't going to come & when it was time for it to start 8/26 or 28, it didn't, I also had diarrhea & a little cramping the same days (don't know what that was about) I took a HPT on the 1st of Sept I think... (cant really remember when) & got a neg. it's now 9/10 & still no period... I had a little bit of cramping from 9/6 through today 9/10... & It has been 45 days since last period... I don't think I have pasted 30-41 days without getting a period, besides the last time I was pregnant... I've felt really tired, had mood swings, nauseated the other day & almost threw up from the smell of something that grossed me out & did throw up yesterday 9/9 a little after I woke up, I also have light lower back pain & light tummy & sides of tummy cramping... If I could be pregnant can anyone tell me how far along I would be? I also took another test yesterday 9/9 when I woke up & came out neg... Well, I have a Dr. apt. today at 9am, I just hope everything is ok with me... Can anyone help me out or tell me what you think is up... Thanks

lgreen - September 10th, 2007 2:10 PM

I am new to this site, but really glad I found it! I am in the same boat. I have taken a HPT on day 12, 15, and 18 past the day I ovulated. So in my cycle it was days 25, 28, and 31. I have been getting a little nausous at night and I have different carmping (not like when I am expecting my period). This is a little bit below my belly button in the middle of the abdomin. All of the HPT were negative. I did detect my LH surge on day 11 of my cycle. Any advice?

prego and ready - September 10th, 2007 7:54 PM

Ladies....

Just so you know and I really hope this helps out... I was almost 1 month late and had taken numerous home pregnancy tests (first response) and had visited the doctor twice and still the doctor kept saying I was not pregnant!!! I was so frustrated with this doctor and testing negative that I demanded to have blood work done...and guess what? I am now 38 wks pregnant expecting a baby girl. Just because your testing negative at home or at the doctors, doesent always mean your not pregnant...blood work is the only 100 % for sure thing in my opinion.

As for early symptoms I had sore breasts, tiredness and vomiting.

LoveALotGirl - September 10th, 2007 10:35 PM

Well, I went to the doc. This morning & got another NEG... So my doc just recommended I wait another week to test again or take a blood test & brought up urinary track infection... She said that if I had it, that could be what is throwing my period off... So I am going to get tested for that in 2 days to see if I have one... But I have been looking online about UTI & late periods, I don't see it saying it causes your periods to be late or missed... & What about me having a discharge that looked like implantation bleeding around the time I was supposed to start my period?? What could that have been? I have never had that before except when I was pregnant before... She also said that if I did have one that I would have pain in my lower back & lower tummy & I have been having that for a few days now but I don't really have any of the other symptoms like having trouble peeing, burning or pain when I pee, only peeing a little bit when you feel like you have to pee really bad or any of that... I just hope I find out what it really is & soon!...
