Sheena, I have had similar problems. I was recently diagnosed with endometriosis, and one of the complications with that is infertility. The longer you have it, the more liklely you will have fertility problems. What I've been told by my doctors is to wait 1 week, if my period doesn't show up, take a home test if it's negative, wait another week and if my period doesn't show take another test, if it's still negative make an appointment and see the doctor. The tests done at the doctors office are more sensative to the pregnancy hormones, the doctors can also do blood tests and ultrasounds. The problem with the over the counter home tests is that they are not very sensitve to the hormones. From the research I've done most of the tests don't show positive until 50-100 mIU. If you can't get into the doctors for a while, Planned Parenthood offers tests for around $10, they are the super sensitive ones. Also, if there are any pregnancy resource centers in your area check those out too. In the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA area there is a place that does free pregnancy tests and they are the super sensitive ones. Good luck.

Hi Morgan, thankyou - I actually live in the UK, I don't know if there are places here apart from my local surgery for blood tests - I'll wait a week and see what happens. I also have endometriosis but only a small area, and it isn't on my ovaries, so I only have to contend with the other condition re infertility ! Good luck to you too - thankyou for reassuring mexxx

crystal & tiffany: i'm just wondering how everything turned out?? I'm in the same situation as well. Although I've been having regular period symptoms but everything except actually loss of blood, all i've been having is white discharge. I haven't taken any hpt yet but I have a doctor's appointement soon, should i be worried?

crystal - June 15th, 2005 9:31 PM

hey sarah...im still here with no period and its 2 weeks later..im thinking about taking another home test and if still no period I think i will have to go to the doctors or a planned parenthood to take a test. I am usually always late so no one in my family thinks anything is up and I have read up on how stress can have an effect on your cycle and cause you to miss a period and I for sure have been stressing. Please let me know what the doctor tells you and I'll keep you updated.

Sheena, if you need someone to talk to my e-mail address is USMCbrat0@yahoo.com
I'll see if I can find anything in your part of the world. One thing you should know though: of all the research I've found most of the pregnancy tests sold in the UK are more sensitive then the ones sold in the US. Good luck!

Tara, yes it's normal to spot while pregnant, especially in the first month. If your uterus is enlarged and your doctor said you're pregnant, you probably are. You are also correct that for any test to show positive you have to have a certain amount of the hormone in your blood or urine, most tests sold over the counter in the US don't show positive until 50-100 mIU, although in the UK most of the over the counter tests are more sensitive about 20-50 mIU. The best time to take a unrine tests is in the morning, you'll have the highest concentration of hormones in the morning. Good luck Tara.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I didn't get a positive HPT result until about 7 1/2 weeks along. My period was late, I "felt" pregnant, and was frustrated to get all negative results. I am having the same thing again now. My period is a week late, I have pregnancy symptoms, but a negative result.

beenish alam - June 17th, 2005 7:17 AM

i am 70 days due my periods and xperiencing frequent urination, nausea sometimes and abdomenal discomfort. i went to doctor for the test and it came negative. please can anybody tell me if these are signs of pregnancy or not as i am really frustrated.

Heyni - June 17th, 2005 11:50 AM

I stopped the pills on may 2 and was supposed to get my period 5/30, my boyfriend and i have been having unprotected sex too. i've been having a few sypmtoms and experiencing diarrhea. i've read that a few of you are experiencing that too. I know constapation is a symptom but is diarrhea too? I dont have sore boobs though and thats the main thing thats making me think i'm not. please please somone tell me if you've gone through this. Please!!!

Tiffany - June 17th, 2005 1:55 PM

hi, to Erin how come it took 7 1/2 weeks for u to get a positive hpt? did the hormone just take a while to develop in ur body in order for u to detect? anyway Im 2 and 1/2 weeks late with no period i feel like i im gonna get it, but then no show every morning...my boobs are fine, i get a little diarrhea here and there..my hpt's are coming out negative and I bought the really sensitive ones too... I'm so worried :-( Anybody have advice?

Morgan - June 17th, 2005 2:42 PM

To Heyni: Yes, when stopping birth control it can take up to 6 months for your cycle to go back to normal. Especially if you stopped in the middle of a pack of birth control. Wait 1-2 weeks and take another HPT, if negative wait another 1-2 weeks and take another HPT. If after a month you still have no period and are getting negative results, go see a doctor. More then likely you're fine, but there are other medical problems that can make you not have a period. Also, if you do go to the doctor's office it is VERY important that you have the doctor perform an ultrasound, there is a chance of an ectopic pregnancy (where the fertalized egg has implanted in the fallopian tube) which can potentially be dangerous. In many cases of an ectopic pregnancy you will get a negative result on HPT's an ultrasound can clear this up. If you do have an ectopic pregnancy it is safe for the doctor to move it to the uterus, but this has to happen as soon as possible. Good luck.

Gosh, It is so nice to read your story here. I am having the same problem. Please update me on your Thursday visit. Good Luck

Heyni - June 17th, 2005 8:37 PM

Thank you sooo much for the information Morgan. I notice you know a lot about these problems. I'm so happy you wrote to me! i'm going to try. One question i would really like to know is do you know if a symptom would be diarrhea? Like i said I know constapation is one but is that another? I've been stressin so much. Plus do you think the amount of time i've taken the bcp is a reason. I was taking them for about a year and did stop half way. I'm just getting frustrated because i'm 22 and my parents are so strict i want to know asap to know how to tell them!

Morgan - June 17th, 2005 9:30 PM

Heyni, both of my in-laws are Registered Nurses, and I've researched a lot of this stuff for my own personal knowledge. I think diarrhea could possibly be a symptom. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in November of last year, it really messes up your cycle and in some cases causes infertility so I've gone out and learned as much as I can and I've also spoken to as many doctors that I can. Good luck with everything. My parents are SUPER strict too, my dad's a United States Marine, and I was 18 and umarried when I found out I was pregnant with my son. My parent's and I have am awesome relationship, and even though they were disappointed in my at first it was something we all worked through. I'm now married, to the father of my son, and he also has a great relationship with my parents.
