Skiing And Pregnancy

Hi I did beginners lessons for snowboarding last season and booked to go again on the 25th March. I paid for intermediate lessons before I travelled and sure enough 2 weeks before I was due to go, I found out I was pregnant with my first. I rang my travel insurance and they said I wasnt covered because "it was my own fault". So I settled to confinment in the hotel, but after reading everyones comments I thought I might give it a go. It was the last week of the season and thought the piste wouldnt be crowded. |

I'm interested to read all your responses! I've been skiing since I was 2 1/2 years old. I'm very comfortable on skis and don't get the "butterfly" nervous feeling very often. I am very aware of my limits and usually stick below them. |

I know this is an old thread but I have to throw my two cents in because I'm a die-hard skier and I always thought that I'd plan my pregnancy around the ski season. Well, it hasn't turned out that way! :D Quite the opposite in fact. So of course I'm curious if I'll be able to make it up at least a few times (I guess I'll be about 5 months along at the start of the season). Anyway, I've noticed a number of people wrote that skiing on the green runs might be safer. I would have to say from my experience, that as long as you know what you're doing on skis, the green runs are probably the most dangerous. That's where you get all the people who a)don't know how to stop, and; b)all the idiots who want to show off for the beginners. |

I live in Switzerland and have skiied every weekend of the winter season. I had a serious collision with another skiier on the slopes two weeks ago. Last week, I discovered that I am 6 weeks pregnant. Hopefully everything is ok. Despite just having bought new skis and boots, I will not be risking the chance of collision again. In some ways, I am glad to have had a reminder that accidents on the mountain are so often out of our control. Good luck with the decision. |
