Congratulations, first off! I think that what you should be doing for exercise depends on what you've been doing up until this point. I started working out 2 months prior to conception, so that I could try to keep it up once I got pregnant and that worked for me! My son is now 14 weeks old and I'm back to a size 4! I ran throughout (approx 24 miles per week) and lifted weights pretty regularly. I only ended up gaining 12 pounds and found recovery to go very fast! You should talk to your doctor...but don't just ask! Tell him/her that you are seriously SERIOUS about staying fit during pregnancy and that you're concerned about this being your second...I can understand how you feel...I'm already considering my second and wondering if it'll be as easy as the first. I think that some people look at you funny if they see you working out semi-strenuously during pregnancy...I know I got some funny looks when I was running (waddling) down the road when I was nine months! But it's important to remember that the literature out there supports even vigorous exercise during pregnancy as long as you're comfortable and as long as it's something you've been doing prior to conception. Good luck!
