Hi, I've now had to become nervous about something else. My friend has just told me that she has been diagnosed with Fifth Disease "Slap cheek" and I spend some time with her on the weekend. I have been reading on the internet that this can be of some concern to the foetus - I am having a blood test on Monday to see whether I am immune to it or whether I have contracted the virus - what a loooonnnnnnnnnngggggggg weekend it is going to be. LOL

I never heard of this slap cheek disease. I just looked it up. Huh. Well, don't worry too much. Just get the blood test and hopefully the results will come back quickly so you aren't sitting on pins and needles waiting. We have enough to worry about with these Echo Spots!!!! And now I'm worried about these Placenta Lakes that have formed in the placenta! Well, let us know how the test goes. I'm sure it'll all be fine!

Hey Ottig....I was 36 when I got PG and delivered at age 37. I had many ultrasounds after the 20 week Level2, but ironically nobody ever brought up the echogenic focus again. I honestly figured if nobody was saying anything about it, yet all her measurements were coming back normal, I wasn't going to ask about it and further worry myself. I knew I wasn't going to abort and I knew I wasn't going to have an amnio, so I decided not to think about it. The subsequent ultrasounds that I had were not specifically to watch the EF, they were to keep an eye on my cervix and my fibroid, and to watch for proper growth, and when all that checked out well, I would just leave well enough alone. Another success story....my SIL had 3 soft markers with her last child, and he came out perfectly normal as well. Try not to worry ladies....I know it's hard, but put it in the back of your mind and just move on and enjoy your pregnancy. Stay positive and strong!!! Good luck.

Hi Tracy88, Thanks for your positive feedback on your story and your SIL. It does make you feel better. I am trying to stay positive and I have been a lot better lately, but at times I have my moments. My friend has just informed me that she has slap cheek (fifth disease) which is contagious. It is contagious before the rash appears. I spent time with her 4 days before her rash appeared and now I am worried that I may have caught it. I am being tested on Monday 21.5.07 (blood test) to see whether I have had this in the past or whether it is in my system now, as it is a mild virus I may have had it without knowing about it. It can be dangerous to the fetus though, especially the first 20 weeks. Although I am 28 weeks now, I still hope and pray that I have had it or don't get it or it will be another thing for me to worry about. If I do have it or get it, they will have to monitor my baby more closely and have ultrasounds more frequently - so fingers crossed that I can cross that off my list. Hope all is going well with the new bubs - not keeping you up at night too much - but then again these are the joys of motherhood - enjoy LOL. Thanks for taking the time to write back :)

IF you did contract fifths, what else can they do besides monitor you? I know I have had other friends who have been in the same situation and luckily they did not have it. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I know that's just as scary to think about as the EF. My sister is coming to visit next week with my niece and my niece's friend just came down with the chicken pox, so I am freaking out about the prospect of her coming near this baby. Let's just hope for the best. Keep me posted on the results of the fifth's test. Good luck!

I've been reading these posts and I hadn't planned on adding my "story" but I just felt like I was meant to. I'm 31, and had my 18 week U/S. There was the spot on the heart. I was told not to worry because the triple-test was normal (though they gave me no numbers). Then I pick my daughter up from day care and they warn me a child in her class was sent home and diagnosed with fifth's disease. I've put it all to the back of my mind and didn't tell my hubby right away because after the U/S we were on our way to his brother memorial in DC (his brother was killed in Iraq last year). So now, I'm back and I'm worrying and I think I feel better after reading this stuff, but I sure do wish I could have a glass of wine before bed. (BTW, my doctor did not offer an aminio or another U/S. This will be my only U/S for the entire pregnancy). If anyone knows of other websites with more info, please post. Thx!

Hi Tracy88 and jodi 34 and everyone else on the forum. I had my 28 week OB appt today - all seems well. I had the blood test for Gestational Diabeties and also one for the parvovirus (Fifth Disease/Slap Cheek) to see whether I am immune to it or whether I currently have it in my system. I should have results later in the week. I have book in for my 32 week ultrasound - to check all fetal measurements and also the echogenic spot as well. I hope it has disappeared. Anyway, I will keep you all updated on the blood test results. LOL

Let us all know when you find out the results on your test. I'm sure you will be relieved when it comes back negative.
I have an Echo cardiagram on June 5th. Still waiting to see that the spot has gone away. I'm trying to be positive now and excited about the pregnancy. I ordered furniture and bedding for the nursery this week. Very pretty. I'm 22 wks pregnant now. Haven't felt much movement at all but the last ultrasound showed her arms and legs moving all over the place!

Hi Jodi34, I am still waiting on the result from the Fifth Disease (parvovirus) blood test. Today received call from Obs and have advised the my Glucose screening test came back positive - slightly elevated. So now have to have a GTT (glucose test with fasting) to see whether I have gestational diabeties. Anything else they want to throw at me. I am going for this blood test tomorrow (just to get it out of the way and hope to get a good result on this one too). I will keep you posted on all blood results that I am waiting for. I have just booked by next Ultrasound - 20th June which will mean I am 33 weeks - and that is when I am hoping for another good result regarding the echogenic white spot. Take care and will write later in the week with my good blood test results, I HOPE. Not sure whether I have told you, but I am from Australia. LOL

Ottig- If it's not one thing, it's another!!! I know how you feel. They told me I have these "Placenta Lakes" on the placenta that could be a problem if they get bigger. They said usually it doesn't become an issue. But they will monitor them. Please let us know about the Glucose test and the Slap Cheek thing. All of these tests make me crazy. I don't remember any of this with my daughter who is 10. Lets just hope that it's because technology sees things they weren't able to years ago.
I have my next ultrasound June 5th. Hopefully the "spot" will be gone and on June 20th your baby's will be too! Do you know what you are having? I'm having a girl. Wow, you are all the way in Australia! I'm in Florida. I'm about 22 wks along now. I don't feel any real kicks or anything. Not sure if I'm suppose to yet. I feel little twitches here and there. Well, keep me updated and I will with you! I just know we'll be celebrating two healthy babies very soon.

Hi Jodii34 and Tracy 88 and everyone else. I had the 2nd Glucose fasting test today and will have results for that tomorrow morning. I got the rest of my blood results back today and everything seems OK and thankfully I am immune to Fifth Disease/Slap cheek - must of had it as a child. Will let you you all know how I go with Gestational Diabeties test result tomorrow. Hopefully OK. I am 29 weeks today.

I failed my gestational diabetes tests and then starved for the rest of my pregnancy!!! Even after seeing two nutritionists, I just lived off of chicken, eggs and almonds.......boring!!! I wish you the best with that because nothing sucks worse than being in the third trimester and having to watch what you put in your mouth. Happy to hear you faired well with the fifth's thing! That would have stressed me out.

Ottig- Thank god you don't have that slap disease thing!! One less thing to worry about! Now the Glucose one. Someone please tell me when we can all just enjoy this whole pregnancy thing!! I can't help but constantly wonder whether the little baby in my belly is happy and healthy and how she is doing in there. I wish I could just ask her. I found out that the Placenta Lakes are actually fairly common and generally the doctor doesn't even mention them because there isn't a need for concern unless they for some reason get bigger. But they mostly don't. I'm really more worried about the Spot. June 5th we'll see!

Hi Jodi34 and Tracy88 and the rest of you. I just got my blood test result for Gestational Diabeties and all is within normal range - thank god. Now just have to wait for Ultrasound on 20th June re. the echo white spot. Hope it has gone. Keep me posted on all your updates aswell - it is great to get the positive feedback from each and everyone of you to help the rest of us keep positive thoughts in our mind.
