Hi Milad,
I was in the same boat as you and recently delivered a healthy baby boy. Please believe me when I tell you that your baby is definitely healthy and you will look back on this and post your success story like everyone else has. I know it;s easier said than done but please try to believe that everything is fine. I was told that I was on the border line, 1/200, and the only way to find out was this dreaded amnio. I worried constantly and in the end I didn't go through the amnio.. My odds were the same and I don't think I ever had a dry eye through out my pregnancy. I never enjoyed my pregnancy because of this finding. I promise you that your baby is healthy. There are other markers (hard markers) that identify down syndrome. The echo spot is a soft marker and with no other markers this is of no significant. Trust me!!! Your baby is fine.

hi i am 20 weks pregnant and recently had a u/s and they found a bright spot in my baby boys heart. When the tech mentioned DS i was shoked and scared. I had my AFP blood work when I was 16weeks pregnant at the results came back negative. Baby is growing fine , everything is okay except for the spot . I am only 23 years old , i do nothing but worry and cry. i am not enjoying my pregnancy.

Milad - August 29th, 2007 1:56 PM

Thanks nightmare. Congrats on you little baby boy. Although everything I read here is positive, but it's nice to get a direct reply. thank you so much. I did do an amnio yesterday morning, because the odds for m/c at this clinic from an amnio is 1.1600. I am taking it easy at home at shoul get my FISH results tomorrow afternoon. I really want to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy and not worry so much. I am sorry you had to go through it. The last week has been hell my my husband and I . nobody explained soft marker verses hard marke to us, nor did they mention how a second marker makes a difference. Anyhow, congrats again and thank you for responding.

fairiecarrie - August 29th, 2007 2:15 PM

hi julie, i just wanted to send you some love and encouragement. I found out about my spot at 20 weeks as well, and am now at 24 weeks. I had a level II u/s and the spot was the only marker they found and I truly believe everything is fine. I am positive the same goes for you and your little one. You are young and with negative afps, I know you have nothing to worry about. Did your doctor offer a level II u/s for you? I still think about the spot, but this site and my doctor's reassurance has really allowed me to just let go of the fear in a way and enjoy the pregnancy. your little boy is going to be just perfect. my thoughts are with you!
P.S. to milad, I am sending my prayers out right now for your FISH results!

Congratulations nightmare, or should I say hope (I feel really wierd calling anyone nightmare!) I am so happy for you. Enjoy your little bundle and everyone else out there who is worrying, keep praying and reading the success stories. Good luck!

Hello all, I am so happy to have found this website. I just found out yesterday that my baby has an EIS on her little heart. I'm 30 yrs. old and this is my first child. My doc is on vacation and I found out from another doc that had very little info to tell me other than "we found an abnormality on your baby's heart" she then recommended a second more extensive US. I just went to get the AFP, but won't have results for two weeks. I'm an emotional wreak, however it's good to see I'm not alone in this. Thank you for your stories.

JulieCord - August 30th, 2007 12:18 AM

Hi Farriecarrie, thank you so much for your response it makes me feel a lot better. I received a call today form the Dr. office to inform me that they received the U/S report. They said that everything looks very good except for the heart; they want another scan of the heart and the spine. Due to the position of the baby (breeched) they did not get a good view of the spine. They will call me back with the appointment information (in 4 weeks as of today).

Hi everyone,
So I got my FISH results from my amnio that I did this tuesday and everything is normal. Now we can enjoy the rest of our pregnancies. Thank you to this forum. Those of you who are going through this agonizing feeling still, know that all is alright.

Jessivincent - August 30th, 2007 8:52 PM

Milad, I'm so happy for you. I pray with all my heart that everyone on here gets the same reassurance. I'm 18 weeks pregnant and won't have my AFP results for two weeks. My husband and I are both a mess over this.

Milad - August 31st, 2007 12:30 AM

Jessivincent,

Did you do your first timester combined screening around your 12 th week/

jessivincent4265 - August 31st, 2007 3:40 PM

Milad, no we did not have the first trimester screening, since our insurance didn't cover it and since I'm under 35, the Dr. said it wasn't a big deal. I wish I had done it now.

Milad - August 31st, 2007 7:05 PM

Jessivincent,
Just know that the AFP test has a very high rate of fault positives. You and your baby are ok. I promise...

i am basically in the same situation! at 18 wks i was told that a bright spot was found on my baby boy's heart! my dr. of 11 years said there was absolutely nothing to worry about, everything else measured properly & looked fine! of course i go into worry overdrive! he asked me back at 32 wks for another US just to check things out with him! i just went back 2wks ago & the spot is still there! no other "markers" or causes of concern. the spot is no larger just still there! they looked very closely at his organs & measured everything which the dr. said looked absolutely normal! although we didn't get to see his little face again this time cause he was head down & facing my back! he said the spot most of the time goes away by birth but if it didn't it shouldn't cause any problems for my baby! he has never even once mentioned the fact that the spot is sometimes associated to DS! i found that out doing my own research on the internet! anyway, my baby at 32wks weighed 4lbs & 9ozs which he said measures a week older than he is! my dr. promised me that he would never ever hide anything from me & that he has no concerns about this spot, he say he feels very confident that my baby is healthy & there is nothing to worry about! this has been a tough pregnancy for me i have had days that i am really really worried & others that i am very optimistic that my baby is perfectly healthy! i can barely wait to get my baby boy here healthy & perfect! just this january i lost my beautiful healthy 2 year old daughter due to an accident & found out right after her funeral that i was pregnant with my little boy! i also have a very intelligent & precious 10 year old daughter who is so excited about the arrival of her new baby brother! things have been difficult for us all & this little boy seems to be our blessing from GOD to help heal our broken hearts & souls! i am now 33 years old & will turn 34 a month prior to my baby boy's due date! i have 6 long weeks to go & am stressed to the max about this precious little baby boy! i have my regular check up with my ob/gyn tomorrow, just to measure my belly, blood pressure, & weigh~you know, the good stuff! ;-) if anyone has any words of encouragement please send them my way i need all the help i can get! my nerves are simply frazzled! i have been praying a lot for my baby & all of you ladies & your babies as well! God Bless You All!!! sorry so long!

Hi Lydia,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have a 4 year old daughter and cannot even imagine the pain you are going through. I am about the same far along as you are. I am 31 weeks, pregnant with a little girl. They told me about the spot on the heart around 16 weeks and also assured me everything was normal. My afp tests were completely normal and the baby's measurements are always normal. I only worry about 5% of the time now, but I know when I go to deliver I will be a nervous wreck until I am told everything is normal. My baby also measures about a week bigger, which to me is a good sign. I will pray for you and I know everything will work out for the best. Hang in there.

lydiaajhammond - September 7th, 2007 1:45 PM

hi amyf! thanks so much for your response! our situations are so very similar! when is your actual due date? mine is oct 18th! i am going to my regular ob/gyn appt. in about an hour! i was never referred to a genetic counselor or considered a high rick pregnancy, that in itself makes me feel better about my baby's health! i have almost been scared to get too excited about him! i am like you, as the time draws near for delivery i am becoming more anxious! i will keep you and your little angel in my prayers! keep me posted on how things are going! all these comments & posts have really helped to ease my worry! i get sooo excited to hear of a healthy baby being born! thanks again & God Bless! i am STILL praying for us all! ;-)

Its pretty sad im getting way more sleep w/ a newborn then the last few weeks of my pregnancy when i worried so much:-)
