marinewife - It's a facebook thing, so you'd have to create a facebook account if you wanted to :) Don't feel like you have to or anything though, it's just another resource where at least we can all share pictures.

I was going to do belly pics this weekend, then just ran out of steam, but I really need to get my butt in gear! I want some cute ones with my daughter as well as my hubby....if he'll cooperate! lol!

steffie92s - February 25th, 2009 12:51 PM

confused mom - yup you are right, we can only pray now:) We can also keep reading the posts on this board for all the positive stories which lift our spirts.

marinewife - your odds are great and I second everything that ohhmuffin has written. Sorry I don't have myspace but the facebook group is working out really nicely for a lot of us. If you are interested (no pressure) email me at steffie92_bfas at yahoo.com.

1moremom- take you time about the facebook, enjoy this time with the new baby:)

1moremom - Congratulations on your healthy baby girl!!!!!! This is such great news, I had anxiously been waiting for your post... and cheking almost twice daily!!!! Even my own Mom who's not in the forum or anything was asking me about 1moremom's baby, I just told her and she was sooo excited... so your daughter has had more of a fan club that she'd ever thought, LOL!!! Anyways... congrats.... thanks for coming back and posting in such a short time, and thanks for letting us know in such detail about the test they do to the baby, and everything else. It really means a lot when Mom's come back and post their great news.... just brightens up our days!!!! I'm so glad one more of us can finally put the EIF days behind. Enjoy your precious baby girl!!!!

ConfusedMom - We've all been there. Sorry you have to join us, but let me tell you this group of ladies (and gentlemen) isGOD SEND, plain and simple.

I'm not a DR or anything like it, but I do believe its a little weird your numbers could go from 1/6700 for DS from the 1st Blood Tests to 1/265 with the 2nd group of tests.... It actually should be somewhere in between I believe... because it should be an adjusted risk. I'm by no means an expert, but I think double checking or asking why wouldn't hurt.

Just remember we're all in this together, and you can count on all of us for support, the "Secret" Facebook group is great too!!!

The amnio is a really personal and tough decision. If you look back at my posts, there were days when I did want to do it, and others when I didn't, we decided not to at the end..... So its a long way till June 30th for me!!! Just glad I have my family as well as the ladies in the group to count on!!!

Eugenia - February 25th, 2009 3:13 PM

MarineWife0113 - You've come to the best place!!! And believe me you're not alone, we're all here with you!!!!

marinewife0113 - February 25th, 2009 3:35 PM

Eugenia- thanks for the reply!!! We are amost due at the same time so it will be good to share the journey right along side you. My orginal due date was July 9, but everytime I go to the dr. they say June 23-30 b/c my baby is bigger than what he should be. He is now only like 9 days ahead of schedule...so that's not too far off! Anyway we will be pregnant almost the same exact time!!

1moremom -- Thank you for all your positive comments!!
steffie92s -- Thank you, you actually got me thinking about my numbers and with all the suggestions I got from this post I called my perinatologist to check on my probabbility rates,
and to verify why the numbers have gone from 1/6700 (11 weeks blood work)and 1/265 (16 weeks blood work)
to 1/100.
He explained me in detail, he mentioned that there are 2 ways to look at the probability..
According to my 11 week blood work the odds are 1/2200 ( with one soft marker EFI on the heart)
According to my 16 week blood work done by ob-gyn, odds are 1/90 ( with one soft marker EFI on the heart).
He also mentioned that numbers don't necessarily cut into half , they need to be divided by 2.8 it seems...
He said the bloodwork that was done at 11 weeks is much more accurate
and he also mentioned that the blood work done at 16 weeks is a regular blood work( not so high-tech)
that is prone to have more false-positives ( my ob-gyn also agreed to this)

Long story short.. I just found out that I have a new and improved probability rate which is 1/2200

I don't have to go back for another U/S until Apr 16th(I will be 28 weeks by then)
Good luck to you all!!

ohhmuffin - February 25th, 2009 5:06 PM

Alright, so before you read this post, I have to apologize for my nerdy self. lol!

I was looking through all of the posts again, right from day 1 back in 2005 and there have been ALOT of people who have written about the EIF being found in their ultrasounds. So I decided to start counting the great outcomes! lol! There are sooooo many entries, and only one negative outcome where there were multiple markers found. In that one negative outcome, that person only wrote the one time, so we really don't know anything else about her pregnancy other than that she had multiple markers.

In counting how many of the people came back to report their good news, there have been 124 positive outcomes posted! Of those 124, 65 were healthy little boys, 59 healthy little girls.

So, I had an alterior motive for counting boys vs girls as well! lol! We don't know what we are having, and it's driving me crazy! Two of my doctors have told me that the EIF is more common in little boys than little girls, although the results here kind of show that it's pretty close to even. Grrrr.....darn it! lol!

So, that's my big research topic for the day.....now I'm done! lol! I thought I would post my "findings" just to make things easier for someone else who was wanting to figure it out. Mind you, remember that it was my tired, 38 week pregnant self who was counting and writing all of this down in between playing Barbies with my daughter.....so these numbers are debatable. If you want to count, feel free to correct me! lol! If anyone else is as big a nerd as I am that is.....

I found it pretty crazy looking back on my first post and how crazy I was feeling. I can just feel the tension in my words and how stressed I was, and now I'm yapping about how I'm a nerd. You guys have all made such a difference in my attitude towards things and have given me such a positive outlook! You mean so much to me, and I'm sure as the next two weeks go by, I'm going to start stressing a little bit more again, so I might need to rely on you guys some more. I'm usually pretty positive, but when I get in a "funk"....it's not a pretty sight! lol!

Anyways, that's my story....take it or leave it! Do what you want with the numbers....it was just interesting to me! Make sure all of you lovely ladies post about your outcomes in the end as well! I think that it's important, because as we've seen, more and more women join this group every week and we need to keep supporting everyone! No one is to be left out!!!!!

steffie92s - February 25th, 2009 5:38 PM

ohhmuffin - you are too awesome! I love it! Thanks for taking the time to post those numbers and figuring out boys vs. girls. I don't know the sex of my baby either I guess we'll have to wait and see:)

julie_l - February 25th, 2009 6:18 PM

Congratulations 1moremom, palegreenstar, and all the other new moms!

Ohhmuffin, how cool that you took the time to tally the outcomes. The numbers are definitely reassuring.

I've only posted here once, a few pages back, but I keep checking back because this thread was SUCH a comfort to me. I ended up having an amnio that confirmed all good news, but for those who aren't getting amnios (and I didn't really want one) this thread is so helpful.

Another thing, since I first heard about EIF on my baby's u/s I've talked to six other doctors who ALL said that EIF on its own is meaningless.

Eugenia - February 26th, 2009 10:55 AM

Marinewife0113 - Oh Wow, we ARE close on due dates!!!! Just curious, do they tell you the baby is bigger on regular ultrasounds, or just by how you are measuring? (I have my next OBGYN Appt next week and was wondering how they know how the baby is growing if they are not doing ultrasounds regularly) It'll sure be nice to have each other all along and through those last few weeks, that from the stories I've read on the posts, are when nerves start shacking up a bit!!!

ConfusedMOM- I'm glad your new numbers are making you feel better!!! And you know, on the number cut-off subject, I honestly think they DONT really know, I've heard all sort of comflicting stories on this post., from numbers NOT changing to the highest I've heard, yours divided by 2.8. My perinatologist said it should be cut-off by 2 and my OBGYN said that's a REALLY conservative approach, and cutting by half would be waaaay to much. So honestly I think they have no idea, and this marker should be re-evaluated by the medical community, because in isolation its doing more harm to pregnant women than good.

Ohmuffin- You are WAY to COOL!!!!! LOVE YOUR POST!!!!!! I'm sooo happy you're having your baby in 2 weeks... but we're gonna miss you and your spontaneous posts for SURE!!! I was actually planning on going back to that one post (I believe her name was storie or something) because I read it a long time ago and had it in the back of my head, so its reassuring to know she did not have the EIF in isolation, as most of us do. Thanx!!!!

Julie - Thanks on your post about the healthy baby!!! I'm glad you could put the DS worries off with the amnio result. Its' a waiting game for lots of us....hopefully all is OK!!!!

marinewife0113 - February 26th, 2009 12:05 PM

Eugenia- I have been having regular ultrasounds due to the fact of my history! This last one was done by maternal fetal medicine to see everything in depth...a little more high tech than a normal one. I figure that I won't be having so many now....I have an appt next Friday but I don't think they will be doing an U/S. So yeah they measure him everytime....and that's when they tell me he is bigger than I am far along..lol. Growing boy for sure!!

Ohhmuffin- WOW!! thanks you so much for the numbers! That really put things into perspective. I'm sure everyone that reads that can appreciate how much time and effort it took you to do that!

ohhmuffin - February 26th, 2009 12:50 PM

Eugenia - You speak as though I'm already gone *sniff* HAHA! My promise is that even after baby comes, I will continue to visit this site and give a positive outlook, support and help as much as I can! I won't forget about all of you who are still expecting and due just a little ways down the road. I think that, having gone through a hard time before with my daughter, you're given the stength to deal with this for a reason. I won't turn my back on anyone who has asked for advice or just needs some support one day. I have been given so much support with both my daughter and this little rug-rat, so I guess i just believe in the pay-it-forward belief.
I think that it's a shame that this EIF has ruined all of these women's vision of their "ideal pregnancy" and makes them worry for no reason. It upsets me.....even though I may not show it in my posts. I don't like people being upset, and it especially peeves me off when doctors just blow it off when you bring it up to them again and want to know more. I just don't understand why they would bring it up at all if they are going to act all "meh" about it in the long run.
I for one, am not going to let this EIF destroy my positive outlook for my baby, my family and my friends on this site. We deserve to have a peace of mind and a comforting place to come and talk. I am going to ENJOY these last two weeks of my pregnancy and KNOW that everything is peachy-keene with my little acrobat!
I hope that I have helped some of you along the way in your journey. I know you all have helped me so much!
So, there's hormonal Diane, putting all her feelings out there on the line....lol! To be continued.......lol!

confusedMom - March 2nd, 2009 3:57 PM

Even though my perinatologist asked me to come back in April for the next U/S, I've requested for one this week, just for my peace of mind.
So far I had 3 ultrasounds, is it OK to have so many ?

steffie92s - March 2nd, 2009 8:24 PM

ohhmuffin - your positive attitude is great and I will miss your daily posts! I know you are not gone yet but you have helped me so much. I just quite a few positive days in a row and it is nice to feel a little sense of relief by thinking that way. It is ashame that so many women are made to worry. I also don't get the fact that docs tell you about the focus but then just tell you not to worry about it. I mean who are they kidding!! An expectant mom is not going to worry until the baby is born???

confusedmom - I have had an u/s every 4 weeks since the 20 week one and I'm 32 weeks now. However they are for a fibroid and not necessarily to repeat measurements or to look for any other markers. I am assuming the u/s are safe since they are making me get them.

marinewife0113 - March 2nd, 2009 10:18 PM

Confusedmom- I have had 5 u/s and I am almost 22 weeks. I am a high risk pregnancy so I know they take extra precaution with me. It's probably better that they do more ultrasounds to catch anything that could be potentially wrong than worry about the risk of the U/S. I think as long as your doc. knows your case and orders one then he is doing what is right for you! :)..hope I helped!!!
