Confusedmom- I have had 5 u/s and I am almost 22 weeks. I am a high risk pregnancy so I know they take extra precaution with me. It's probably better that they do more ultrasounds to catch anything that could be potentially wrong than worry about the risk of the U/S. I think as long as your doc. knows your case and orders one then he is doing what is right for you! :)..hope I helped!!!

It's been just a bit since I've been on but wanted you all to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Ohmuffin- how's it going??? You are sooo close and haven't posted in almost a week now.... does that mean you have had your baby????? I HOPE SOO!!! Can't wait to hear all about it.
Texasmom- Thanks for the sweet congrats. We named our little girl Ayla (pronounced A-lah).
Eugenia- your post really made me smile and I was touched that even your mom was waiting to hear about me and my girl. How lucky we all are to have found this group and to have such caring people on it!! You all have touched me and helped me. THANKS SO MUCH AGAIN!!
Confusedmom- I had a high risk pregnancy and as such had an ultrasound almost every time I went in. It wasn't a problem. I actually felt lucky that I got to see my baby so often as most people only get a few chances.
Julie_l- glad to hear your results were great and hope that you are able to now enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!!!!

1moremom - I'm still here :) Hanging in there! I have 11 days to go before my due date.....and trust me, I'm ready :P My husband finished his last night shift last night and is now on holidays for 3 weeks, so I'm happy. Just wanted to get through his last few shifts! Now, my daughter is being a little booger right now. I think she's just feeling a little trapped with the crappy weather we've been having here.
I'm feeling pretty good though! Lots of nasty heartburn...bleh! But soon enough, hopefully it will be gone!

Hello everyone, my wife is 22 wks pregnant tomorrow. We're having a little boy, and she's due July 10. I found this blog 2 wks ago after our first u/s. They said our little boy had an echogenic focus on his heart, but that there was nothing to worry about. As you all know, easier said than done. We went back today and had a level II sono done, and he basically confirmed that there was an echogenic focus. He said that the left kidney was right at the higher end of normal (ugh, why even tell us that). We didn't have bloodwork done and won't do the amnio, cuz it doesn't matter anyway. My wife is 21, and he said the risk factor for DS was 1/364, something like that. I really appreciate reading all the positive feedback, it has put my mind at ease. I'm the worrier =) I'll keep you up to date.

luvplanes - welcome to the group unfortunately. How did they come up with 1/364? Did your wife have NT scan and then they combined that with the echogenic focus finding? That ratio really isn't that bad at all though. You have like a 99.998% chance of everything being okay! A lot of us on this board have opted out of the amnio so we have the same worries as you and your wife. We are all here to share our positive outcomes. We also have a Facebook group if you and/or your wife is interested.

Luvplanes, good to see another father here. I love planes as well, in fact I am a pilot and own a Kitfox II (google it if you are not sure).

Anyway, those numbers don't seem right. Either you may have them confused, or the Dr. just pulled some numbers out of a dirty place, and had to wash them off before giving them to you. :) With your wife only being 21, and this the only indicator, there is probably not much to worry about.

So now for my good news. We went on Tuesday to see the "high risk" doctor, and have another ultrasound done. He did not do a 4D ultrasound, just a regular one.

He measured everything, the head size was right on, Femur was perfect, arm bone was right on, feet looked good, and all the internal organs looked good.

He focused on the heart quite a bit, and did find the spot is still there, although it looks smaller. He said the hart looks all normal, the chambers look good, and the valves all look good.

After the ultrasound we talked to him, and he said as far as he could tell, everything was fine. He found no need to go any further with testing. He saw no need to do an amnio. He said he has litteraly seen thousands of these over his career, and in almost every single case, it turms out fine. He did not even give us any risk factor numbers, as he said in his mind it was not realy even a factor. Although he could not give us 100%, he said the chances were "exceedingly slim" of any genetic problems, and if any were theyre, he would have seen other indicators, and there were none.

Sorry for the long winded post, just wanted to keep you all filled in. My wife and I are much calmer now being re-assured by a specialist that there realy is nothing wrong. He does want one more look at the heart about a month before she delivers, but that is just to double check on the heart chambers, and make sure it is all good, and see if the spot is gone.

Hang in there everyone. It sounds like these are way common, and nothing realy to get worked up over. I know it is hard, I lost several nights sleep over it. But we all need to try.

Hello everyone!! Just an update on my situation, yesterday I went for another U/S . Everything they checked and measured was normal, my boy is just over a pound and he seemed very happy and content :)
They also mentioned that the spot on the heart looks faded, which made me cry with joy. I have to go back again after 10 weeks for the next U/S ( I will 32 weeks by then)

Andrew - I agree those numbers don't seem accurate for luvplanes wife considering she is only 21. I am really glad you got reassurance from the specialist and you and your wife feel a lot calmer now. You are right that we all need to try. We need to try and put faith into the fact that these are way common and should not devastate us for the rest of the pregnancy.

ConfusedMom - I am happy that the spot has faded for you! I hope you can relax a little bit more now:)


As for me - 33 week u/s update - The focus is still there but smaller. Baby is measuring 14 days ahead, 5 lbs 5 oz and 77 percentile and everything is measuring great. The tech was great. I keep going to the same one. She is really sweet and keeps telling me not to worry and she feel everything is fine. So I have at least one more u/s with her at 37 weeks and hopefully that will be my last one. I am definitely feeling more positive these days. Hopefully that keeps up until I deliver:)

I was told that my baby had an echogenic foci spot on her heart. I was 21 weeks pregnant at the time and spent the rest of my pregnancy upset that something would be wrong. I was blessed with a perfectly healthy baby girl on March 20th. I am 33 years old and this was my fourth (and a surprise!)child. My other 3 are 11,13 and 15, so I was worried about being older this time. Please do not spend your pregnancy worried like I did. I look back and can't believe how much time I wasted!

Christine4, CONGRATS and thank you for you positive story. It means so much to us all. Did you mean that your baby girl was born on Feb. 20th?? You say March 20th but it is only March 6th..haha....In any event it is such wonderful news!!!

I am 29 weeks pregnant (and counting). I was told about the white spot on the heart a day or so before New Years. My original risk factor was 1/18,000 and I had put it out of my mind. It was not what i was expecting when the doctor called. I found this site and it gave me so much support. I was nervous. The genetic councilor told me my updated numbers was 1/9,000. Every now and then I get nervous so I come on here and get uplifted all over again.

I'm writing to tell you all a family member of mine had the same white spot and just gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

When did they change this site? I haven't been getting updates as per normal, so thought I would check it out tonight and WOW...lol!

Welcome all the new mommies (and daddy's)...wish you didn't have to find this forum, but hey, here we all are right? I think that you'll find this a great source of comfort and a great place to vent! Everyone listens so well, and it's nice knowing (in a sad kind of way) that other people are in your exact same position!

Thanks to everyone who has posted success stories, including the story's of others! It truly does make a difference in all of our lives! Really, really appreciate it!!!!

I'm quickly approaching my due date.....only 6 days away now (5 days in reality, since my due date is Friday the 13th but the docs changed it because they are weird! lol). I keep going back and forth, thinking that I'm ready, then thinking HECK NO!!! I think this is normal, but yah, I don't think that I would ever describe myself as "normal". I think at this stage in the game, I'm more concerned with how my daughter is going to react to the new baby than I am with the focus. I ust have this extreme sense of guilt that she is no longer going to have my undivided attention. Maybe that's the hormones talking, I don't know....anyone else?

Steffie92s- glad to hear you're feeling positive. Keep it up as I KNOW everything will be fine, no better than fine,... things will be fantastic!!
This goes for all of you... wannalil1, Eugenia, Caney, confusedmom, luvplanes, 94za4, marinewife, ALL WILL BE GREAT!!!! Please take heed, as much as you can, that all the stories and outcomes are great. Try to take comfort in the fact that technology didn't used to be as good and therefore the spot on the heart didn't use to seem so common. We are all finding out now that it is common and is not anything to be concerned about in and of itself.

1moremom - So, due date was yesterday, and I'm still here :) Starting to have contractions, but they are still 25 minutes apart, so productive, but not "need-to-go-to-the-hospital" kind of contractions. I'm trying not to be too anxious, but it's getting harder and harder, especially since my husband's sister has flown in to town now and is eager to meet the little one. Just ready to get into our new routine and help my daughter adjust to having a little one in the house.
Thanks for thinking of me though.....hopefully soon I can post some positive results!!!
