I Will Be 42 By The Time I Am Married....

Issue #1: My fiance is completely blind and 27.
Issue #2: When we marry in Summer 2010, I will have just turned 42.

Just found this site, completely unknowledgable about subject, but trying to learn since I am not even pregnant or trying yet. I am already going to have huge hurdles to overcome by choosing this path with him. I know we want one child. I have never been married, no children or pregnancies. Where should I read? So much here. Other sites also. Have two years so...I have plenty of time...please direct me to best info. I dont feel scared, I feel cautious but confident. Still, I want to be prepared. Do OB/GYNs talk to women who arent pregnant? Can I schedule to find out now, if I'm a good candidate? Or run any tests? These may be dumb questions, I apologize. I just really dont know. Any help is genuinely appreciated.

lourdes - yes I think you should start with your OBGYN and discuss the age issue. they can test your hormones and evaluate where you are at now, but I'm guessing things can change a lot in 2 years, especially at the age you are and willl be so you may need to be tested again when you are ready to start trying to conceive.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and baby! I agree with mnmom, I went to my OB when we decide to try for a baby at 36 (first) and second at 39. Have you considered beginning to try to conceive prior to your wedding to give yourself the option of more time? Sometimes it can take longer than anticipated. Natural Family Planning is a good starting point for trying to conceive (they also provide info to avoid conception). Your gynecologist can check to see if there are any issues that may pose a problem for you and possibly have them corrected beforehand. Good luck!
