Hi,

Just entering my 7th week, had my first US today. So exciting to see the baby's heart and head! The MD was very optimistic about the health the baby with regards to me carrying to term.

I am 42, this is my first, so we spent some talking about IPS v. amnio. Does anyone have any experiences?

Thanks.

Hello, I am 41 and about 4 weeks away from delivering my second child. I think the smart thing to do is have the ips and see how your results are if everything is well then there should be no need for amnio. For example I had a pregnancy where at my 12 weeks scan I had an elevated nuchal translucencey and I opted for cvs (chronic villus sampling which can be done up to 14 weeks to check for abnormalities..I unfortunatelly lost that pregnancy.
But for my last pregnancy and this one. My 12 week scans and blood work showed a very low chance of having genetic abnormalities. So my OB had no suggestion for amnio. IF you have a history of genetically inherited problems then you might want to look into the amnio. If you would terminate if there was genetic problem then amnio may be something you may want to look into again. Amnio can be done later in a pregnancy whereas cvs can be done a little earlier. Whatever you decide..I congratulate you and wish you the best!!

Wow...haven't been on here in over a year! Congrats Kristen. In answer to the IPS question....I did the IPS screening and my test came back at 1/22 for DS. I was 38 years old at the time. My daughter was born without DS, but it worried me sick thru my whole pregnancy. I regret taking the test and found it very inaccurate.
