Hi there. I'm 36 and pregnant for the first time. I had my first scan last week, when I was 5weeks and 6 days. Apparently the embryo was 1mm long. Is this 'normal'? I'm due my next scan at 9 weeks - can I expect to see the baby's heartbeat then? Am very anxious about all of this. Any information will be good. Thank you very much

Average length at 5 weeks is 1.5 - 2.5 mm according to a website I just looked at. So that sounds about right I reckon. All babies grow at slightly different rates and they can only give averages as every pregnancy is unique and individual. I'm sure all is well- yes you should get to see a heartbeat at 9 weeks. 5 weeks is quite early to see the heartbeat I think. Congratulations on your little bean!
