I knew I should not have bought those OPK's. They are driving me crazy. I am cd 15 got a positive opk in the am for the last three am's but on afternoon tests they were negative. I read that you should test in afternoon as am tests could be falsely negative. Can they be falsely positive, that does not make sense? Another question: have you found that if you drink alcohol the night before your am temps will be higher?
How is everybody doing? Kristin- I saw that you got good results from your bloodwork on another message board. Good News!!

Hi everyone. So sorry I've been AWOL lately. I'm not really sure what happened. I just got incredibly busy and my schedule got all messed up. I've been thinking about all of you. Oh yeah...I was sick in there for a while too and I went to bed earlier than usual instead of messing around on the computer.

AF started the day after I posted my confused and frustrated message. I'm already on cd12 and my IUI is planned for tomorrow at 2pm. The u/s today showed two follicles on my left ovary - 27mm and 15mm. The tech thought the 15mm might be mature enough by tomorrow to ovulate in addition to the bigger one.

My body seems to like the Femara as opposed to the clomid, despite ovulating earlier than normal on it. If I were younger, I'd definitely commit at least six months to Femara/IUI cycles. As it is, however, my RE is strongly suggesting to injectibles and I'm seriously considering it for either next cycle or the one after. My insurance definitely doesn't cover any of those meds, so I need to figure out how I'm going to pay for that. Not that I'm writing this cycle off of course, but I need to be proactive and plan ahead.

JAYJAYSMOM - Ebay! I've been buying OPKs on Ebay where the price for digital is comparable to the regular kind in the store and the regular kind can be found quite inexpensively. A lot of what I bought was crushed boxes that can't be displayed any more and some had fast-approaching expiration dates. But they've been working for me and the digital ones have saved me HOURS of staring at lines and driving myself nuts trying to figure out if 50% of the test line is the same as or darker than the control line. (I called the company once and was told that only 50% of the test line had to be = or > the control to be positive. That's when I gave up and went digital.) It's at least worth checking out, maybe.

KRISTIN - glad your appointment went well. That makes me so happy!

KRISSY - can't wait to hear what the doctor has to say.

JOELLE - Wow. I can't believe how far along you are. You'll be meeting little Ryder in person before you know it. What a difference a year makes, huh?

BABYKISS - You don't mind if we keep calling you Babykiss? We'll switch if you want us to. No problem.

JULIA - Hi, sweetie. I've thought about you a lot lately. I hope you're beginning to heal.

tryingx3 - March 3rd, 2009 10:11 AM

Hello girls! Glad things are moving along for everyone. Sorry I am not up on infertility treatment stuff - just try to understand what everyone is posting! Ha ha

Looking forward to good news from Aspen on the upcoming IUI.

Congrats Kristin on your tests. I am foregoing the NT scan.

OUCH - my ear hurts. Should I call my doc? So weird, I took a nap with my dd on Sunday - woke up with headache and sore throat - now my ear has hurt for 2 nights - BAD, BAD last night, even my jaws and neck were hurting.

Friday should be 12 weeks for us - when does the 2nd trimester officially begin? Am I almost there?

Kristin72 - March 3rd, 2009 10:53 AM

Hello Girls, Aspen good luck on your IUI. Those follicles sound promising. I am with you on using th digital opk's. When I get the happy face I KNOW it is time to get busy. I also like that you can double check the test line (not sure if you are aware of that) but it will show the test line as well if you are curious.
Trying sorry to hear of your illness. It sounds to me like an ear infection..take care of yourself..you may need some antibiotics. As far as the second trimester I believe that begins on the 13th week.

I have a qestion for you ladies. My doc measured the baby 5 days ahead and thus gave me a new DD of Sept 7th. So..does this mean I am further along?? or do I still say I am the original length of time which would be 12w3d. With the added 5 days it would 13w1??This has confused me.
Trying just wondering..why are you foregoing the first trimester screening? For me I am so gad I did it. If you are afraid of the false negatives with your age it should still put you in a good ratio regardless. When is your next ultrasound? Will you find out the sex?Are you doing any of the bloodwork associated with screening? I just like having the extra ultrasound to see the little baby. I got 3 pics one is a head on face shot. The other is a side view and the other is a close up profile shot.
I hope everyone is doing great good luck on your cycles babykiss, krissy, jayjaysmommy!
Aspen let us know how things turn out.
XO

TRYING - It sounds like your ear ache was pretty darn bad. I think I'd go the the doctor if it's not improving yet. I was wondering about when the 2nd trimester officially starts too. When you say that you'll be 12 weeks, are you going from LMP or from the day of ovulation. The difference between those two always messes me up. I know that full term is considered 40 weeks from LMP and 38 weeks from day of ovulation....but...which do most people go by? And d'ya think I should wait until I'm actually pregnant to obsess about things like that? Lol.

tryingx3 - March 3rd, 2009 2:00 PM

I will be 12 weeks on Friday based on LMP - which is the date I believe most go by - because you know NOT everyone is as informed as we are about ovulation dates! Ha ha

I am drinking lots of water, but ear still hurts and left side of my neck, also hurts to swallow. I guess I will call, just feel like a "frequent flyer"...called 2wks ago because of vag bacterial infection - was mild and they said they did not like to treat this early in pg. Fortunately, I believe it resolved on its own - maybe it moved to my ear! ha ha

As for testing - NT testing was not offered as a option, my guess is I would have to go somewhere else to do it. My next OB appt is next Tuesday which put us at 12.5 wks. My OB did say he might send me to some high-risk guys to do an u/s around 15-16 weeks. I have a specialist I saw before, but he is 3.5 hours away. My OB says there are some that travel to a town close to us every week. I could choose - he knew both sets of docs...

I fear the false positive. I also know that you can get a false negative. My SIL and Brother have a baby with DS and had no idea...not sure which tests they did, but know that they did have a few extra things done because she was 40 at the time of pregnancy.

Yes, we will find out the sex. If it is a boy - I have tons of totes of girl clothes to move out!

tryingx3 - March 3rd, 2009 2:02 PM

Kristin - with my dd, i had 2 due dates, 9/24 and 9/27 - one based on lmp, one based on an early u/s. This time they said they did not want to date by u/s because it could throw things off and only gave me date based on lmp. There were times during my pg with dd that she measured up to 4 (yes, FOUR) weeks bigger than her due date.

Krissy68 - March 3rd, 2009 8:21 PM

Hey ladies I haven't had a chance to read the post but I wanted to let you all know that I am very sad, down and depress and I think I am at the end of my journey of trying to have baby. I went to the dr and he said that for a lady my age my FSH should have been below 8 and mines was 8.4 what the heck he didn't make a comment on the E2 so I guess that was okay. He said I should go straight to IVF yea right like I have $17,000 laying around. Here is the break down for my DH is lab will cost $240.00 and his SA will cost $140.00 and that's it with him. Now for me to do 1 IVF traditional cycle I have to have blood work and that will be free because my insurance will cover that 100% just as long as I use the lab in my insurance group. then he wants me to have a hysteroscopy and that is $500.00 and the IVF itself is $10,425.00 and this doesn't inculde the medicine and they said the medicine will cost anywhere between $5,000.00 - 6,000.00 Now is I do the IUI which is what I would like to do. I still would have to pay the same for DH and I would still have to have my blood work but then I would have to have Laparoscopy w/Hysterosopy $650.00 Anesthesia Fee $525.00 1 cycle of IUI is $1,805.00 but since my insurance will pay 50% then I have to pay $900.00 paid in full on day 1 of my cycle and this will inculde (4) Office Visit; (4) Estradiol Blood Levels; (4) Ultra Sounds; (1) Sperm Preparation; (1) IUI and (1) Pregnancy Test. Now the cost for the medicine will be between $1,500.00 - $2,000.00 that is going to cost me around 4,075.00 so now I really don't know what to do. I know this cycle I have decided to just take my temp but if I forget to do it oh well and I am not using any opk and I will just hope for the best. My left tube is blocked he also confirmed this. I will keep you posted on what is going on with me I will respond to everyone later. Love you girls and good luck to everyone. Krissy68

Kristin72 - March 4th, 2009 9:38 AM

Krissy, Obviously the doc is going to tell you and others to go straight for the IVF..bu truly who can afford that? I think the IUI although expensive too..sounds more promising. Your 8.4 fsh is not a terrible number. It could be lower but it still shows your body is not going into overdrive to shoot out eggs each cycle. I think the IUI wil sidestep the blocked tube and you will have a great chance. HAve they checked your eggs (follicles)through ultrasound yet? What about your endometrial lining? Has your dh ever had his sperm checked? Anyway, don't feel down as these specialists are in a money making field. I think it is in their best interest to tell us to go for the IVF..and sure if you have the money but most people don't. Krissy you could still very well get pregnant on your own. With 8.4 your number is still under 10. I know you will be pregnant very soon even with a little help. All the best to you and turn that frown upside down!! :)

Kristin72 - March 4th, 2009 4:10 PM

This board seems to be losing it's momentum. Hope everyone is doing well.

mannoulla - March 4th, 2009 5:28 PM

hi ladies,

Krissy you can not take your doctor's words as if they're the last and holy word.

Your FSH is good! One woman on a board had an FSH of 12 to 15 and finally got pregnant after 2 years doing fertility drugs and IUI.

mannoulla - March 4th, 2009 5:36 PM

Hi Aspen nice to see you. Of course you may call me babykiss, thanks!

Wow, no wonder you've been ovulating earlier, those follicles are huge! 27mm??? wow!

IUI away!!!!! Baby dusts!

mannoulla - March 4th, 2009 6:18 PM

Jay, the smiley digitals are the best. If one brand of OPK doesn't work for you, it best to go for another one.

and yes alcohol can raise your BBT temps.

jayjaysmom - March 4th, 2009 8:06 PM

I was trying to not to spend too much on the opks that is why I ordered the internet ones that have yet to come, contacted them and they are reshipping. My FF chart says that I ovulated on cd 12 but I did not start testing with opk until cd 12 and only got positives on 13-15. I do not make any cm that really is any different from others, so I guess FF is strictly going by my temps. I put the same data into ivillage fertility planner and they think that I ovulated yesterday. WHATEVER! I have had enough bd this month to feel as if I should get paid LOL!!
Hey guys dont let this board die, I look forward to hearing from you all and venting to you !!
Krissy- I know you are so discouraged right now, I am so sorry. Aspen- Did you get your IUI go, I just have a good feeling about your timing this month.
Kristin- Do you work full time ? I do and can imagine how tired I will be if I get a sticky one.

Aspen8 - March 5th, 2009 8:53 AM

Hi ladies. I don't have time to read everyone's posts and respond yet but just stopped in for a quick update. My IUI went really well. The 27mm follicle had grown to 28.5mm, though the 15mm one pooped out and didn't grow any more. My lining was 11mm. My cervix was wide open for the insemination, and doc said the cm looked good. We did the insemination at 2:15pm while I was having mild O pain and by 5:15pm I was having a few GI symptoms that I associate with post-ovulation. The next morning my temp had jumped almost half a degree. We definitely NAILED the IUI timing this month. Couldn't have been any more perfect. Hopefully most of the swimmers headed for my left tube! My RE said that even for perfectly healthy, young couple the chances for success for each IUI cycle is only about 25%. For people my age and with hubby's morphology issues, the chances are lower. So I know not to get my hopes unrealistically high. But BOY did we nail this cycle! Hahahha. Knowing that feels good at least. And now we wait....

Hope everyone else is doing well. I'll be back later tonight to read and catch up.

tryingx3 - March 5th, 2009 1:56 PM

Aspen - sounds great! Maybe this will be your ticket!

JayJaysmom - I work FT and have a 30 minute commute, plus the drop-off/pick-up time on the 3 days my dd goes to daycare. My MIL keeps her 2 days at my house which is great! I don't get much accomplished after work, basically try to play with my dd, get us fed somehow (usually not a nutritionally as we should) and clean. Kind of feel like I just survive - I am looking forward to the 1st trimester blahs to move out of here.

I guess this is all preparation for having 2 in the house - I'll probably never get to shave again. Ha Ha

I asked for an electric razor last year for my birthday. :-)
