[Original Post]

Hi ladies- just found out through a pelvic exam that I am pregnant. However, the urine test came back negative but my doc has scheduled an ultrasound and blood work for next week. I have already had 5 children and the last one was born when I was 46yrs old. Wish me luck on this one please- BTW has anyone gotten a neg on a test and then found out they were preggo?
Susan

Congratulations and yes good luck to you! You certainly give me hope as I am trying again at 44. Not certain about the urine test but I'm sure someone else can answer that here. :-)

Wow, You are our HERO!
I hope you get the BFP

mhhope4 - December 8th, 2006 8:00 PM

Thanks to the warm welcomers...and I thought I would be laughed off this board for being so old.
Becoming pregnant in your 40's is a snap- don't think it isn't. Just please find out your progesterone levels as misc are often due to low levels. The body must produce enough progesterone in order to support a viable pregnancy. After 12wks the fetus takes over the job.
Btw- my kids are 32-27-25-22-and 18 and dear Logan at 5yrs old.
Gee, and to think that menepause was occurring to me in the summer. Please imagine the shock this is to me- I was not trying to get pregnant at all. I blessing is all I can say. When I was preggo with Logan my screen name was mhhope4- meaning "must have hope four this one to keep put" I guess I am superstitious as I used the same log in name this time it brought me luck with keeping the growing Logan inside me and maybe it will bring me the much wanted luck this time. BTW checked out another site- apperently a neg is very common- my ultrasound is next friday and the blood work is mon- keeping my fingers crossed.
Susan

Hi Susan, your screen name should also be Mother of Hope 4 all! Thanks for your advice and info as well. Please keep us posted and with fingers crossed wishing you the very best for next week!

Susan, Maybe your hcg levels just werent high enough yet to register on the urine test?? You have given me hope as well knowing you had your last baby at 46. I am 37 will be 38 next week and I'm so worried that I'm just too old to do this. I lost a baby in april of this year and had really convinced myself it was because of my age. And people are so mean when they find out my age, their like "38 and having a baby (eyes rolling)" it hurts my feelings and I never really know how to reply, usually just go off alone and cry. Did you get any of the negative comments with your last baby? My mom had me when she was almost 39, my brothers and sister (7 of them) are all a lot older and have teased me my entire life that I was the "accident" lol I asked my mom if that were the case. She said "no, actually the other 7 were accidents, you were the only one planned".

Hello mhhope4 Congrats (umm...I think) I hope all gos well for you. When is baby due ? You stated in you 1st that "I have already had 5 children and the last one was born when I was 46yrs old" but in your next post you state "my kids are 32-27-25-22-and 18 and dear Logan at 5yrs old", I count six does that mean this will be bubs number 7 ? Wow super mum! :-) Well I guess you will not be stuck for baby sitters. ;-) All the best Keith dad of 2 Adelaide South Australia

this is an exciting post to watch! you'll have to spill some of your secrets - you must have some! things you did that other girls might not know?

mhhope4 - December 9th, 2006 3:07 PM

Hi- was out all day with Logan for breakfast with Santa.- To answer some of your questions:
- neg comments? OMG! yes- but, realize they are coming from peanut gallery narrow minded thinking people.
38 and too old- well, let me shed some light on that worry. Just say to yourself everyday- that compared to me- you are a teenager...lol
-hcg levels not high enough- thanks and you are so right- spent a long time with an ob yesterday- pelvic exam is showing a definate grapefruit sized uterus- along with the fact there is NEVER a false positive test but many many false neg tests. I know I am- been down this road too many times not to know the symptoms. Btw- I too, have exp many miscarriages.
- said I had five and counted 6- it came out like that because I have been under the "preggo absent mindness" lately. Case in point: left my keys in the car - and the battery went dead when I forgot to turn my lights out. Can't tell you enough about my absolute mind bubbles that I am exp lately. Heck, I can only hope I dont' forget my name one day. My best friend is so amused by my "stupidness" lately.
-Due date is Aug 3rd 2007.
- so today I am 6wks - and the uterus is definately growing.
one more little bit of action is that my doctor is suspecting twins....
blood work mon at 4- ultrs on friday at 10- will keep you all posted. and I am hoping for all-
just keep checking your progesterone levels - if they drop or are too low -no pregnancy will survive. That is why the baby usually never m/c after 12 weeks because that is when the fetus can produce their own progesterone. The hormone of life itself.
Susan

Hi Susen
Wow you must be going for some sort of record, 51 and twins !! (that will teach you to make love twice in one night ;-> ). Congrats anyway look after yourself and the bub(s). Keith dad of 2 Adelaide South Australia

lilmomma2b - December 11th, 2006 9:32 AM

Susan, Possible twins, thats great! I had feared that myself from reading older women had a higher possibility of twins. But just one here! So happy for you, let us know how your Dr visit goes.

mhhope4 - December 11th, 2006 10:05 AM

Yes, mutiples are very common for older moms. Just found that fact out- lol. Mostly due to a higher FSH level producing 2 eggs -thus fraternal twins higher than identical. I will let you know about today- just blood work to check the levels. the ultrasound on friday is the biggest wait --- I must tread softly as I often miscarry so everyday this lil bean sticks is a great day for me.

Susan, Since you have had 5 children already I was curious if you could tell me.. did you notice #4 or #5 moving A LOT early on? I know after the first baby many women recognize the flutters early. 2 nights ago I noticed the flutters were non stop, I put my hands on my tummy trying to see if I could feel it but didnt. So I watched my tummy while laying in bed and this little tiny bump appeared and left very quickly. Like the baby had kicked or stretched, you would think this was my first child because when I saw that I was in shock and started yelling "I saw it, I saw it!" lol Anyhow Susan I just wanted to know if you had seen anything like that early on. I am 14 wks and this is #4.

rl - December 14th, 2006 1:12 PM

wow good luck to you...I just could not imagine having a baby at 51 much less twins ( : I am glad you are happy about it I am afraid I would be crying. But you know I bet having lo keeps you feeling young huh!!?? Well I really hope all goes well for you ( : may I ask how your dh feels about having another and this time maybe twins?

ConfuseD - December 16th, 2006 8:49 AM

Gosh, and I thought I was probably one of the only older ladies to post on this board who had a baby (10 mos. ago) at age 47. He, too, was my fifth child, and I also have older children from my first marriage (ages range from 18-24). Gosh, this gives me more hope! Congratulations, mhhope4! I think that's SO cool, and I wish you the best of luck. Please keep us posted, as my husband and I are still entertaining the thought of having more!

Mrs.H - December 16th, 2006 5:01 PM
