Hi ladies, it's our first and my hubby really wants to find out the sex so he can prepare mentally for the years to come. As much of a planner i am in life, this is one thing I think i want to be a surprise... Any thoughts on why you chose to find out or not find out would be appreciated :) Thanks mommies in advance

We didn't find out on our first and I'm so glad we didn't. Yes, you can buy gender specific stuff when you do, but honestly it was so nice to have the surprise when our daughter was born to have the doctor say "It's a girl!" and be able to call the family and say that instead of "She's here".... I don't know, just sounds better to me. It was something nice to focus on during labor as well, the anticipation of finding out (although in my gut I already knew it was a girl). I know that we are a rare breed though, so it's nice either way, just depends on your personality I guess. Honestly, I think it's harder on everyone else who wants to know than you, at least it was that way in our case. Plus, these days there are lots of neutral colors to shop for that are really cute and work just fine for a couple of weeks until your ready to shop (not to mention all the drop off gifts you'll get). Good luck.

My dh and I aren't going to find out. We don't mind at all. I'm not dying to know and look forward to being surprised. Waiting to find out is something I wish more people would do.

We are the opposite! I want to find out, my boyfriend is set on not finding out. We've had 5 ultrasounds already too! It's hard, but in the end, it might make it easier to push out since I'll be dying to know the gender by than! I would say keep it a surprise, we have a ton of people that are going to get us clothes when the baby is born. it's funny to me when people say "it's easier to shop for the kid if you know the gender". yeah right! My little girl or boy is going to be wearing every color under the sun, does not matter the sex. And we made their nursery a gender neutral. Babies don't care anyway, and I'm not going to give into the stereotypical themes of "pink" or "blue" anyway. :) Good luck! Let us know what you decide.

I wanted to find out just for the sheer joy of knowing. But it's fun to know so that I can buy gender specific things...plus we already had boy and girl names picked out and we can get personalized things ahead of time. My reasons were mostly so we could buy stuff (lol)...but I'm glad we found out! Good luck with your decision either way!!!

i simply don't have the patience to wait...and thats pretty much the only reason! we both really want to find out, but i soooo agree that it would be nice to have some anticipation during labor...to push push push to find out!!! i think that waiting is really cool if you can do it...I just know that I can't wait

I also dont have the patience to wait until it is born. And I also have this "feeling" that it is a boy. It doesn't feel right calling it a "she" at all. But we will be thrilled either way... I also want to see if I am correct in the feeling I have or not!

I found out and was glad I did. I think it has helped me to really bond with her. Hubby and I can now call her by her name instead of referring to her as "the baby". And I WAS surprised when I found out, so that part never goes away. There is enough going on in the delivery room that knowing this one thing will not not take away from the joy you will feel when you first see your little one.

I always find out...all 7 times! I need to be able to but clothes, wash clothes and be ready. Delievery will zap you and you won't want to do a whole lot after baby. If you are like me...baby doesn't go public for about 2 months afterwards. It really helps to have everything ready at the drop of a hat, IMO.

we didn't find out the first time around and let me tell you- it was the BIGGEST surprise of our lives. Our little girl is amazing. This is our 2nd and we have gone to the dr twice thinking we would find out- both times, we couldn't go through with it. We want the same "Oh my GOD!!!!" feeling like last time....

chickiepoo9 - July 4th, 2007 1:11 AM

i didnt find out with my son and when they said it's a boy in the delivary room i was like uh huh i was so tierd i didnt care i found out this time early and i find it way more exciting to each there own i guess!

Betzy - July 4th, 2007 10:07 AM

I wanted a surprise and my dh wanted to know. He said he would find out and not tell me...I don't think so! So, I finally gave in and don't regret finding out at all. I saw it was a girl right away because the U/S was so clear, so I don't think they could have kept it from me anyway. I would've liked a surprise but I can't say I don't enjoy buying stuff and making plans for my little girl.

Tory1980 - July 4th, 2007 5:10 PM

I didn't find out with any of my pregnancies (3) and I won't be finding out with this one either. I see it as there is so little a surprise in the world these days that this is something very special. It's a personal decision but I like not knowing and finding out after all the hard work is over.

sunflowergoddess - July 5th, 2007 12:56 PM

Thanks so much ladies--it's so fun to read the "why or why nots" :) I just hope i can contain my excitement when it's right there on the screen and not look... That will truly be the moment of truth :)
