I have been getting throbbing pain in my left lower back, its not radiating anywhere so I am pretty sure it isnt sciatic related. Changing positions or laying on my side doesnt help and heating pads only give slight relief. Has anyone else had this problem that could shed some light for me ?? I am 20 wks preg.

I know some back pain is normal during pregnancy but if it persists I would call my doctor.

I am 21 weeks 3 days pregnant and I get frequent lower backaches. I find that for me, it mostly stems from sitting down for prolonged periods of time. I try to use a lumbar cushion for support when I sit, which has helped me a lot. I also use heating pads at times when it gets worse. I know that sometimes lower back pain can be a symptom of a greater problem. I was in the hospital a few weeks ago due to dehydration from a stomach bug and I also had severe lower backache that had started a few days prior. When they tested my urine, they found out that I had a UTI and the ER doc said that would cause a backache. Another thing that I noticed was that when I am dehydrated, even prior to pregnancy, my lower back does start to hurt. So make sure that you are drinking plenty of water (I'm sure you haven't heard that one before). If the pain is worrying you, you should certainly put a call in to your doctor.

Sitting down for a long time is painful. Also if you do too much activity it can aggravate it. Also watch out for things like vacuuming and sweeping and mopping, since those motions can cause more pain. Ahh the joys of pregnancy. :)
