Decorating The Nursery

I wish I had started mine! I was waiting, because I procrastinate about everything and I wanted to hit the 24 week, viability mark. However, I got put on bed rest at 23 weeks, so now here I am at 25 weeks worried about how I am going to get a nursery together. We don't even have a crib yet! Haha. Anyway. I would say that if you feel up to the task and are ready, go for it! In retrospect, I think anytime after the first trimester is over is a safe bet. Congrats on your little girl! |

hi louise i have just turned 22 weeks, and we have completley finished doing up are nursury, we done ares about 6 weeks ago, we just couldnt wait. So i would say go for it, And have fun doing it, it is so rewarding looking at the finished room where your baby will be in a few months time. |

Hi Louise, I am 26w3d, we will be getting the paint either this weekend or next...we have our crib, I've just been slacking on how to decorate it. We are having a little girl, but if the next one comes out a boy I dont' want to have pink walls everywhere! :) I think its great that you are so on top of it! No harm whatsover in having it done early, in fact, I wish ours was painted now! I realize that within a few weeks things are going to start FLYING by and I'll be feeling overwhelmed! |

Hey all, it is said to put a crib or bassinet up prior to baby's time is bad luck. |

I would say go ahead and get started, the time flys by and before you know it your baby will be here. I plan on starting mine soon because we are going to give the baby my daughters room and move her to the huge 4th bedroom. We want the baby to be close to us and her being the big sister we figure she should have the room. I want to do it early so she has time to get used to her room before the baby comes so she doesnt feel like she was evicted. Also, i will need to help my hubby move stuff so I want to start before i get to big. |

I had my SIL paint for me a couple of weeks ago. I did Lilac/Lavendar on the bottom 2/3's of the wall and than a yellow on the top third and a Classic Pooh border where the two colors meet. I love it! We still need to get our furniture though. |

oh oh... we painted last year! I know we didn't think it would take so long to conceive and I wanted to help with the painting. I too did two colors! It is a windsurfer green (bright) on the bottom 2/3 of the wall and a soft baby yellow on the top! I'm the green is too bright, but we are adding a classic pooh border as well so i hope that helps. I luv the colors, but it may freak the little one out if it's too bright! We don't know what we are having! I'm not going to start the decorating until jan./feb., im due in april! |

We won't decorate until probably a monthy before baby is due. Thats what we did the first time around...We live in a different house now so I have to do the nursery all over again. My adivice is NOT to do it too early because things can still happen. My cousing jumped the gun and went into premature labor and it coudln't be stopped. The baby was not viable so here she sat with this decorated nursery for months to remind her of the baby that she had lost. And it won't freak your baby out if it is bright colors, at first, all baby sees are blacks and whites, but as they develop seeing colors, they love bright colors. Notice how all baby toys are bright reds and yellows and oranges? |

that's sad tammy. well at about 15 weeks we went to a baby seminar and of course it turned out to be a sales pitch, from babee tenda and we got bought. we got the crib and feeding table which is so much safer than a high chair. i know that people use high chairs and regular cribs for years and everything was fine, but we really got sold on the safety factors. anyway's we're in this dilema that's keeping me from doing the baby's room till after he comes maybe. we live in this two bdrm apartment with a lease till april. we want to get the heck out of there and get into a house as soon as the lease is up, but baby is coming in late feb/early march. so i can't decide if i want to turn the spare bedroom into a nursery now or just wait till after we move into a house. tough decisions. |

crystal, I would just wait until you move into your house, because I'm sure you want a nursery in the new house right? That way you don't have to do it twice. It would be such a waiste to spend all that time decorating and painting to only have baby in there for a month for two. |

i know, that's what i'm really leaning towards. then maybe just getting a little bassinette to put next to our bed. i'm glad you agree cuz i'm so iffy. just my bedroom is so little that i don't know where to put the changing table, ect. ect. i geuss i could just wait to get all that till after we move. |

Buy a foldable changing pad to just place on your bed and use. (most diaper bags come with one). Your bed will be about the right height not to kill your back. It will save space till you move. |

I am hiring a professional painter to paint the nursery in the next month or so. As for setting up the crib and decorating, i am waiting until I am atleast far enough that I know the baby can survive outside the womb. |

I will probably start doing up the nursery when I'm 28-29wks along. (I am 24wks now) but only because I won't know for sure where we are living until then. I probably would have started already just because I am so excited. BUT I know that I would regret doing it this early later on in the pregnancy. I want to draw that fun decorating time as much as possible. |

i hope it's not unlucky because i'm 25 weeks and i already have my nursery done. LOL. the day i found out it was girl i started picking out paint colors and i already had bought the bedding (for a girl) before we had the ultrasound. i just thought from the beginning that it was a girl. anyhow, it's all painted and ready and we have the changing table but still need the crib, dresser, and all the other fun stuff. it's fun to go in there and dream about my little one coming.... the only problem now is that it's so far away! |

oh yes, let me add that i'm very happy that i did it early because i know for a fact that i could never bend and paint and spend as much time as i needed to on the nursery when i get any bigger. if you have someone else to do it for you then that's fine but if you're doing it yourself, in my opinon, the earlier the better. but i do agree with waiting until the baby could survive on its own. that makes sense, i just got a little too excited :) |
