I am about to go and have surgery done on a hernia I have. And am real nervous about doing while pregnant. I am 23 weeks, is there anything I should worry about?

I am now surprisingly newly pregnant with my 4th child. I am scheduled to have hernia surgery next month. (I got a hernia with baby #2 and then #3) Did you have surgery while pregnant?

I have had this surgery done twice. The first time was about 7-8 years ago and then I had it done again this past February. The procedure itself is quick and painless. The recovery isn't too bad either. I do remember the day after the surgery the pain was pretty bad. They only gave me Tylenol 3 for pain. I ended up doubling up the dose to get some relief. After that, the only pain I had was from doing too much. It is amazing how such a small incision can affect the muscles of the stomach region. My scar is about an inch long and about an inch above my belly button. With this pregnancy I am experiencing a bit of pain near the scar area. My doctor told me that I will probably feel more pain as the baby gets bigger and higher. If it does get bad she said we will consult general surgery. So, on that note, surgery is safe. Sure, it is something to aviod if you can, but it is still safe.
