Yesterday I was getting ready to do the laundry, and I grabbed this large bottle of detergent and as soon as I put my foot on the first step into my basement I slipped and fell down the stairs with the detergent weighing me down.
I ended up slamming my right hip extra hard and scraping some skin off my right arm. I am still able to walk thankfully since I just got bad bruises.
Well I immediately went into the bathroom to see if I was leaking any fluids or bleeding because of my fall, and thankfully I wasn't. Everything seemed fine, so I pondered going to the hospital but the rain outside started falling in torrents, and there were tornado warnings and such. Our power went out, so it was kind of scary.
Well anyway we went to the park later to see fireworks when the rain let up and I was still doing okay minus the pain in my hips. The fireworks were extremely close up and loud and I think it made my baby move, and I felt some subtle movements today too, but I can't shake the feeling I hurt the baby or maybe somethings wrong with my baby, and I have a doctor's appt. tomorrow. I am really nervous!
Has anyone gone through this? And been clumsy like me?

YES! I fell down the stairs when I was about 14 weeks pregnant. I ended up with a huge black bruise on my bum that hurt for weeks, but the baby was not harmed in any way. They are surrounded by a big sack of fluid that offers them some pretty amazing protection from our clumsiness ;-). And if you are feeling her moving around in there, then everything is definitely fine.

The baby is very cushioned in the amniotic sac. Unless you feel directly on your stomach you should be fine. I know women who have been rather serious accidents and the baby fared fine.

When I was 8 months pregnant with my dd I fell flat on my belly, just missed a step and landed completely on the belly, nothing or noone was hurt, unless you count my pride (it had to be in front of a bunch of people).

This makes me feel tons better! I am sorry for your falls, it's just lucky no one was injured. They must be tough little things to survive such ordeals.
I hope I see my strong little baby moving around tomorrow!

When I was pregnant with my son 11yrs ago it was winter.. I was 8mo pregnant and I fell on the ice, right on my belly.. we were both fine.. Also during that pregnancy, I was in a car accident and got the steering wheel right into my stomach.. again, both were fine.. other than me freaking out. Everyone is right, the gestational sac is plenty of cushion, their own protective bubble.. short of a stab wound to the stomach, (GOD FORBID) we should all be fine.

I'm glad you are OK...I would be scared so bad if that happened to me. Just let your doctor know (I'm sure you will...just have to add) and if the baby is moving you should be fine. My old doctor said they can usually stand a good fall, they are protected enough.

HeavenisMine - July 5th, 2007 4:21 PM

I think the baby's are tougher than we are! Actually just more well protected, Everyone seems to be doing well, so I am glad, and I think I felt some more movement in the car. It hasn't been strong like yesterday morning at like 5:30, I was woken up to it. But they have their silent days too.
Thanks bunches!:)

Like everyone else said, I'm certain you're fine, and that's good you have an appt tomorrow so you can mention it to your doctor. The only things I would suggest you watch out for are spotting, bleeding or cramping in the next couple weeks, and painful or "warm" spots on your belly where there might be bleeding under the skin but not coming out "down there". I only say that because I had a placental abruption 5 years ago that caused me to deliver early, and a fall can cause this sometimes. I had NO symptoms of that until my contractions started, so I guess they can be pretty silent sometimes too. But sometimes if they're caught early enough and if they're mild, a little bed rest can usually take care of the problem. In my case, it wasn't a fall or anything else we know of that caused it, just a fluke I guess, but those are the signs they told me to watch out for this time.
