I'm having this weird back pain when I wake up from sleeping on my back. I'm 18 weeks, and I've been pregnant 3 times before, but I've never experience this with any of the other pregnancies. It almost feels like my kidney is bruised or something, and it'll take like 30 minutes or so for the pain to go away. I was scared I was getting a kidney infection or something, and then I remembered about the sciatic nerve. The last time this happened, my hip hurt as well. Since then, I've tried only sleeping on my side, and that seems to have helped, but I can't always control how I sleep in the middle of the night. Otherwise, I'm feeling fine. I assume if something were wrong with my kidneys I'd be having other problems as well, right???

Is it on a specific side? Cause I know I get a lovely pain in my back, only on my right side, just above the hip bone, and sometimes it wakes me up. I try to stay on my left side as well, and then my right hip really hurts in the morning...?? I would say if you had an infection, you would have a fever, or at least some other kind of symptom. Its more than likely to do with you nerve, and where the baby is positioned.

It's on the left side. I'm thinking it's where the baby is positioned as well. But I used to be really prone to urinary tract/bladder infections, so I get nervous any time I feel anything around the kidney area. I just don't remember this happening before. (Of course, I weigh about 10 pounds more than I did last time. :) )

Honestly I haven't been able to sleep for a week or so very well due to various back/hip pains. I would say it's pretty "normal" (like anything is normal, really, huh?), but if you ARE worried you should consult with the doctor. I've had lots of kidney problems as well, so it might be a factor in some of the pain. Lately the only way I can fall asleep (and stay asleep for more than an hour) is to sleep sitting up. yuck...
