I was just wondering what you think of this name for a little baby girl ~ Darien Elizabeth or Darien Nichole ~?

rae - March 10th, 2005 8:20 PM

i like them

Very creative, but it sounds more like a boy's name, which may make things difficult for her in grade school. Good luck choosing though!

As someone who has an extremely unique name....I would like to say if you give your kid a unique name or one that is spelled way differently than it sounds I would really think hard about how it will affect them in school and for the rest of their life. I am 24 yrs old and still have to deal with people who cannot say my name correctly, and people who always ask if I have a nickname. It was really hard is school. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my name, but it is hard to leave my name for little things, like picking up something, or if I go to a resteraunt. Just little stupid things. It always the same thing, and just when I get used to people learning my name someone new comes along and I have to correct them when they say my name. Its a never ending cycle. That is why I am naming my child something easy to say, that cannot be made in to a nickname, and is just easy to understand. Just not something overly unique. I dont want s/he to have to go through what I went through (still going through).

Darien is a boys name. How bout Daria for a girl?

Rachel* - March 14th, 2005 6:20 PM

If Darien is a boy's name, how about Darienne or Dariane for a girl. Pronounced the same but looks more femanine.

Katharine - March 16th, 2005 1:35 PM

Ro is easy enough, though : )

Kallie - April 5th, 2005 6:59 PM

I like Elizabeth but not Darien or Nichole

tara - April 5th, 2005 7:12 PM

Darien sounds like a boy name - I like the other variations mentioned above better, thier spelling looks more femenin. I also agree with roisin on the unique name issue. My name was buchard by every teacher in school and anyone else who tried to read it and so I ended up with 3 variations of my name. I now use Tara on this bord because it's simple and can not be pronounced wrong. It was just really annoying to have to go through that all my life.

tara - April 5th, 2005 7:13 PM

Oh, I meant to say that Darien (and the other variations) are simple enough to say and I don't think your baby will run into problems that i had.

Raye Lynn - April 5th, 2005 7:43 PM

I like both. Dont worry what others think. This is your child. If you like it, go with it. Kids are going to be teased about something or another. Its not a boys name because it would be your daughters name. My name was shortened to Raye in school. yeah, i got ribbed for having a boys name, but I love it. To this day, my close friends and husband still call me Raye. Call her by both names if your concerned about it. I think they are beautiful.

I agree with Roisin. The name Darien seems 'unique' for a girl. I always wonder why people even think of naming their child some 'different' kind of name. The parent doesn't have to bear the name. I guess the question, is would you, the mother like to have that name? Darien is not a very pretty name, in my opinion. It's kinda like "yuck" - Daria, now that's

rachel - April 5th, 2005 9:46 PM

daria sounds too much like diarrhea. Allie, if you and your husband like it, go with it. Dont worry about what anyone else likes or does not like. they are both perfect names. "Unique" names are beautiful.

Nick - April 5th, 2005 11:41 PM

i know a little girl named Darien and I think it is nice name for a girl.

Kara - April 6th, 2005 12:12 AM

Um, I have Darrien on my short list as a good boys name!
