We want to wait to be surprised for our baby's sex/gender, and i get pressure from family about the nursery. Many push the typical yellow/green color scheme at me but I want to do soft browns/cremes mixed with deep chocolate accents. I get looks like i'm retarded. What do you think?

i like that idea.... cremes and browns go good together and you could always put alittle yellow aswell. baby bears would be cute!! sometimes you have to ignore everyone and there opions and just do what you want.

I also want to have soft brown/creme/pastel colors..I like them more than bright blue and yellow colors. Its different plus for a baby I think soft colors is the best thing at least that is my opinion..There is lots of nice ideas from PoshTots! They have all colors its soo cute..they have a lot of things in brown and cremes if you want to check out the website its PoshTots.com and then go to cribs..you can get beutiful stuff from there or only get ideas.

Ooh, I like that idea. I imagine my family would give me strange looks as well since those aren't "normal" nursery colors. I think that sounds very elegant.

ooh-la-la - June 8th, 2005 7:06 PM

It does sound elegant doesn't it? Soothing, too ... I am imagining it now ... soft browns and cremes with tiny splashes of pale pinks and blues ... darn it. And my bold room of primary colors now sounds like a scream compared to this ... why didn't I think of that? My sister and husband will die if I want to change it now ... but, there's always mother ... hmmm ....

hahahahhahaha ohh-la-la that is soo funny! you already buy everything?

I think it is so annoying how everyone you talk to wants to tell you how you should decorate. I had a border and paint colour picked out since I was 10 weeks. It is noahs ark theme and it is blue, so I am painting the walls a medium blue shade. I decided this before I knew what the sex was, because I liked it for a boy or for a girl. Everyone said " You cant do that, it might be a girl" I said thats fine. So, now that I found out i am having a boy, my choice is suddenly ok by everyone. People are pesky. I say do what you want. I think your colour scheme sounds awesome, very soothing. Also, you can always ad colours if you get bored in accent pieces. It sound very luxurious to me!

It's always a shame when I hear people make reference to being "retarded". Do you KNOW anyone who is retarded? DO YOU? If you did you would wipe that snare out of your adjective vocabulary. It's a very immature word to use. Brown is a "shitty" color for a baby shower, theme, etc. It's not cheerful at all, it's used more or less for Classic, clean looks, for older people, not babies. Cream is a wonderful color, but it needs a mate, something colorful and cheerful.

I think it is a great idea. I am building a house at the moment and plan to stick with earthy colors like brown and white I was thinking of using a dark beige as the main shade in the babys room then putting pink or blue in the curtains and bedding etc later on.

Mia - June 8th, 2005 7:50 PM

listen :-( just b/c you didn't like the word she used, doesn't mean that you can give your opinion about the colors like if your opinion is everyone's opinion! I don't think brown is a bad color for a baby's room..and that is my opinion..she is saying "what do you think?" not "come and judge me!"

lisa - June 9th, 2005 8:14 AM

i think that it is your choice and you can make any color look nice....are you using a theme at all ?? just wondering.

lilmum - June 9th, 2005 11:50 AM

I was thinking of white and red, and then if it's a girl, add pinks, if it's a boy add browns. I think it would look really sharp with red and brown.I think using just browns and cremes would be really nice if done the right way.

getalife - June 9th, 2005 12:26 PM

Get a life :-( There's nothing wrong with saying retarded. Some people are medically retarded and others just act like it Like You. I think her color scheme sounds lovely. You are the one that sounds 'shitty'! Back off!

Alaina - June 9th, 2005 1:07 PM

It's a good idea.Plus you won't have to change it as much when the baby gets older and desides they don't like bright colors because their to babish.

tracy - June 9th, 2005 1:19 PM

i think brown & creme are great - and you can totally add in colour accents and change them up as you wish - in blankets, rugs, curtains etc. also, brown is very "in" right now! you'll have one hip baby.

jessica - June 9th, 2005 4:04 PM

i really think you should stay with the yellow until u know for sure what your haveing or go with theam like flowers for girl or a sports theam for boy something along that line

Stephanie - June 9th, 2005 4:08 PM

That sounds nice. I think the room will look very soft and you can even add orange for color if needed but it sounds like you have it all figured out! Have fun!
