Im sorry could you tell me what cerclage is exactly? Hope i don't sound dumb

ShoppingForTwo - January 7th, 2008 11:27 PM

"Think of an ANGEL", lol :), I thought it was devil hehe. I've been kinda busy so I haven't been on as much. I've read that usually women get the cerclage removed at 36/37weeks, some scar tissue forms sometimes so some women actually go to and past 40 weeks, wow huh? I'm ASSUMING I will get mine removed during my planned c section. The goal is to take it out before a woman goes into on her own (dilating with the cerclage and rip your cervix severely) so with that in mind, maybe I will get mine out sooner. Hmm, thanks for making me think about that, I will clarify with my doc on Friday. I know for the removal we won't need a spinal. Most doctors do it right in there office. I hear its uncomfortable and just a little pinch, then its over. How far along are you now Goldfish? I will be 15 weeks on Wednesday.

hey shopping i remember you talking abt getting some antibotics after ur cerclage what was that?. also iam wondering y my doc didnt give me any. from past one week iam having much discharge cant stop worrying. iam goig to my ob tommmorow

ShoppingForTwo - January 9th, 2008 5:15 PM

I got 2cc's (or something like that) of antibotics in my IV as soon as the surgery was over. I was surprised and stressed out that I didn't get a prescription of antibotics to take for a few days. But I guess that's not how they do it. They might have put it in your IV without you knowing goldfish. Definetly ask to be checked for infections tomorrow. I see my peri on Friday and am going to ask too. I read that women who have experienced preterm labor before should be check frequently for infections during subsequent pregnancies since some infections can cause PROM or PTL. I had so much discharge around 8 weeks and was concerned, to my surprise I actually had an infection. (Bacteria vaginosis, got antibotics for a week) No big deal if they are caught and treated in time. But like your doc said extra discharge is completely normal, mine just didn't smell pleasnt when I complained to my doc about it. Anyway, speaking of stressing, right now when I was in the elevator I felt a microscopic "pop" in my vagina. I don't know if it was an air bubble or if it was my cerclage breaking because my cervix was dilating!!!!!!!! I freaked out for about 5 mins and even almost got back on the elevator to go to L&D to get checked out. Then I remembered that this hospitals policy is that we cant go to L&D until 20 weeks or over . So I just went back to my department and decided not to worry. I see my peri Friday so hopefully nothing is wrong. To my knowlegde changes in the cervix don't occur this early. (IC doesn't happen this early) soooo I was freaking out but I think I'm fine. What do you think?

goldfish - January 9th, 2008 5:22 PM

i dont think its the stich coming out or anything it must be a glob of discharge or just gas. however i would take my feet off the ground and just relax. ya iam going to get my dischrage checked tommorow. my ob gave me a special appointment. the thing is she always say extra discharge is ok, but i will be making up a story to tell her tommorow and get it checked for my peace of mind. however mean it may sound. i hate those pelvic exams but taking a little pinch is better than worrying at home u know

ShoppingForTwo - January 9th, 2008 6:35 PM

Thanks Goldfish. I called my peri about the "pop" I felt. He said its normal and its discharge coming down from the cerlcage. Eeww. He said the cerclage won't pop, if I dilate with it in it will simply rip through my cervix. (OUCH) he said not to worry. Yes get your discharge checked. If you gotta make up a story then so be it. We have to be our own advocates. Some doctors think everything is normal and every pregnancy is wonderful and will be ok. I met a lady today who had her twins 6 days ago at 30 weeks. She said she called L&D for two weeks asking her contractions and even called saying she lost her mucus plug and they told her everything was ok and normal and women loose their plug and go for months without it. Well she finally went to L&D for piece of mind and she was 5cm dilate and they asked her why she didn't come in sooner!!! Anyway, I wish you could just say "doctor I have extra discharge that's concerning me, can you please check me for infections or simply check that everything is ok?" it should be that simple, huh? Yup the check for infections is like a quick pap they just need a swab you to look at it under microscope. It take 2 whole minutes.

goldfish - January 10th, 2008 3:31 PM

ok here is the update. i just came back from the doc. i insisted that she did a internal exam n so she did. she said she didnt see any discharge n it was normal. the internal exam was painful however , just like a regular pap but i felt it a little more . Like my hubby always say iam a cat when i enter the exam room and a tiger when i step out. I aksed her why there is more discharge she as usual replied the same thing coz of cerclage and its absolutely normal. Heavy normal extra discharge is ok she said. What irriatates me is these words arent a number so iam still having same dount how much is too much. anyways she also gave me antibotics if i was worried. I dont know what that means now. but i will be waiting to take those tablets coz i got the glucose tolrance test today and also gave them a urine sample for urinanalysis so will wait and then take the medicine

ShoppingForTwo - January 10th, 2008 4:28 PM

That's great goldfish! I'm glad things went well, and I'm glad she gave you antibotics. I will be asking to get checked for infections tomorrow. Questions, why do cerclages cause more discharge? I don't get it. Its just a fishing line like piece of thread through our cervix, after it heals why would it cause more discharge???

goldfish - January 10th, 2008 4:34 PM

you know it seems discharge is something good to someextent. discharge kind of provides kind of protective lubratcant kind of thing . I read this somewhere i will send you if i find it again. Its like the the tread which is left in there causes this dischrage and is the cervix natural way of keeping bacterias away from that thread.

ShoppingForTwo - January 10th, 2008 4:44 PM

Oh really? That's cool then :) how many weeks are you now? 24?

goldfish - January 10th, 2008 4:46 PM
