Here are some tips: take lukewarm showers or baths - hot water makes it worse. Use Cetaphil lotion immediately after the shower. Stay cool, sweating makes it worse. Avoid perfumed lotions and shampoos as well as chemical cleaners. Buy a chemical free detergent and scent free dryer sheets. For itching, try Aveeno Anti-Itch Lotion, Eucerin Anti-Itch Spray, Benadryl at night, and an ice pack works well if the itch gets to be too much. I've had eczema and dermatitis for years and trust me - all these things are effective!!

I'm 17wks pregnant and noticed this irritating rash on my back then it spread to both of my hips and chest, i've tried everything and i'm just misrable with the itching. I'm so glad to hear that i'm not the only one and that it could be because of my pregnancy.

This is my 2nd pregnancy and I just broke out with the same rash AGAIN! I had it with my 1st son too. It doesn't go away until birth. Dr. told me to use Sarna lotion (Walmart is cheapest) It is a steroid-free cream which is safe for pregnancy. They are small pimple like clusters that itch like crazy. I have them on my eyelids this time mostly! Ouch!! Some people call it the "Pregnancy Rash". Most likely what every one else is calling Pups. Hang in there girls Just do what ever you can to relieve the itching!

I'm eighteen weeks now and have had PUPPS for about 5 weeks. I am ready to lose my mind. I went to a Dermotologist and he did a biopsy. It came back positive for PUPPS. He gave me a steroid cream to use for 3 weeks. He then told me to call him when I couldn't stand it any more. The cream worked for a while. Now nothing helps. I can't sleep at night. I don't know how I'm going to make it for 21 more weeks.

I am 26 weeks pregnant. At around 21 weeks, I started getting a rash that was red and itchy in a circular shape on my stomach and chest. I went to the doctors and found out that I had "puppps". It's the "pregnency rash" that goes away after we give birth. It is because our chemicals are "not normal" due to our little ones and our skin is irritated and having a reaction due to the stretching. Puppps usually develop in the last 3 months and go away after the babies birth. There is a mild steroid that my Dr. gave me that is clearing it up. But make sure to MOISTURIZE because the more you scratch the more stretch marks you will create. SO TRY NOT TO SCRATCH!!!

i am having the same prob but on my inner thigh. the doctor says that it is just due to the change in horomones and the heat.

My wife has this condition and we have done everything to treat it but nothing works. It starts as red, itchy bumps and then becomes swollen red patches that after a few days start to scab. It started on her belly and now goes all the way from her knees to her neck she cannot sleep at all. She is 26 weeks. I even had our house checked for bed bugs, scrubbed all the floors with diluted bleach, and washed all of her clothes twice, once with Tide "free" and then a second time with just water to make sure all the soap was out. Still it keeps spreading. She is taking an antibiotic but we have not noticed any effect from it. I can’t wait to show her this forum so at least she knows she is not alone.

Wow...I am so sorry for everyone suffering from this horrible situation. I have had this rash since I was 8 weeks along. It started just under my bra line on my chest. My OB said it was nothing and to use cortizone. Well, now I am 21 weeks and it has just gotten progressively worse! Now I have a full-fledged rash on my belly, chest and lower back. It itches so much that I wake up scratching...so much that I bleed. I have been through a round of steroids, lotromin cream, cortizone and Benadryl. I finally went to a dermatologist on Wednesday and they took a sample for biopsy (ouch). They said the results will take 2 weeks!!!!! I am going completely crazy from the itching. I can't even imagine 19 more weeks of this torture. I guess next I will try the Aveeno (Oatmeal??) bath. Good luck to everyone!

MM - December 4th, 2005 8:58 PM

Yes, I've had it too! In fact thats how I found out I was pregnant. Mine went away after using Aveno lotion w/ Oatmeal. Good Luck!

I was diagnosed with PUPPPS at 39 weeks and ive been miserable. i cant sleep because im constantly itching and itching. The itch is insatiable. It started on my belly over these horrible stretch marks and spread to pretty much every area of my body. My feet and hands seem to bug me the most though. The only thing that has worked for me to keep me sane is going into the shower, wetting myself down, then rubbing baking soda into the rashy sections. it will sting a little but it feels so good. then rinse off. After i dry off i put tea tree oil on the rash. Its smelly but it really soothes my skin. Im itch free and very comfy for 2-3 hours. then i have to repeat the process. i hope this info is helpful to anyone dealing with this nasty nasty rash. this is what works for me and it makes me feel good knowing that i am getting relief naturally with medications that im afraid could hurt my baby.
