has experienced this...

i was at my midwife appointment and when i lay down for the doppler and pulled up my shirt, there was a very big lump, like a softball, slightly left and below my belly button. im almost 18 weeks, fairly thin and have the start of a belly.
this morning when i was laying in bed i felt a tremendous amount of movement between my belly button and pubic bone and then noticed that same lump. im pretty sure its the baby but ive never heard of anything like this before. is this a braxton hicks or just the baby pressing on my belly. ive been feeling movement since 14 weeks, this bean is very active for so young.

Hi Chelsea! I think I can relate to what you are saying also. I am 15 weeks.Sometimes when I sit very still or get ready to lay down in bed at night, I feel a slight movement. And I also notice when I wake up in the mornings, I noticed a lump-like feeling below my belly button. And once I ever move, it will slowly go away. Or maybe even shift over slowly. I don't have a clue what that could be. I thought you don't feel that type of stuff until a little further along into pregnancy. So can someone please help us!

i felt the first movements about half way through the 14th week so im sure thats what you are feeling. for me, the lump was a like a ball sticking out of one side of my belly, really, really weird. the midwife looked very suprised, im not sure what it was. it only happened once since then. i cant stress how weird it looked, like a baseball just under my skin but in a more crescent shape.

So, would you say thats the baby? Or is it muscles or something? I haven't had time to contact my doctor so he could tell me what it was. Is it baby? muscles? the placenta? Or what? I'm confused!

im not sure but i think it was some part of babies anatomy. it was big enough to be the baby curled up. i thought that maybe the baby was sitting really close to my belly and then i had a braxton hicks that caused me to be able to see his/her shape. the midwife said she thought she could tell by the shape which way the baby was laying, she found the heart right away because of it. i know that the bean rolls and presses into my abbs but that is pretty spectacular!

Early on it is most likely your uterus that you are feeling & the hard feeling like a softball is when its contracted, braxton hicks tend to start very early on to prepare the body, but the smaller the uterus the less likely you are going to be able to feel it. As your pregnancy progresses the more prominent the feeling will become. Hope this is helpful. :)

its the top of your uterus, towards the 5th moth the uterus is shaped more like an egg rathe rthen ball. when you are lying down all night it floats up a bit towards your belly button and feels a little pointed.

Hi, i noticed this happening alot in my last pregnancy but not till a bit later on... maybe 19/20 weeks and it was defintaley the baby, he would move around and i would get strange lumps poking out of my belly very often.. so id say it could very well be your little one, especially if you are quite slim.
