October 9, 2009 (Also posted in General Pregnancy Questions)

I'm 23 years old, recently married. I do not use birth control other then the withdrawal method, for various medical and personal reasons. My menstrual cycle is typically 4 to 6 weeks, with 6 being the normal. My last menstrual cycle started on July 28, 2009, which would make me 3 weeks late as of Oct 7. I have been irritable, moody, hungry, I have experienced weight gain around my midsection, I continue to be very bloated and have experienced a lot of cramping in my abdomen and lower back, at times very painful. Indigestion, heart burn, gas, sleeplessness, frequent urinary tract infections, a lot of clear discharge, frequent urination and occasional head aches. I have taken home pregnancy tests on Sept 23, Sept 30 and Oct 7, all of which have come back negative. I will test again on the 14, and I have scheduled an appointment with a Planned Parenthood clinic on the 16th. Should I request a blood test be done? I am beginning to think that I might be pregnant with a false negative or suffering from a medical condition that would cause missed period, such as poly-cystic ovarian syndrome. Would anyone have information about the symptoms of poly-cystic ovarian syndrome or false negatives on pregnancy tests. Any advise is wonderful. Thank you!

Your symptons do point to pregnancy and not all pregnancies can be detected with pregnancy tests, even HCG blood tests; this is very rare. Cysts are a possibility but also you could be having an unovulatory cycle every woman experiences at least 1 in their lifetime despite them being regualar for X number of years. If you had an unovulatory cycle you might be "psyching" yourself up by thinking your pregnant causing pregnancy symptons. I would wait till my next period is due and if it fails to come than I would go to the dr and get some test done, maybe request a us. Good luck
