Hey ladies.. for those of you who remember me... i'm back! for those of you who dont know me.. i have a 17 month old son, and my DH and I have been ttc since Nov when I had my IUD removed... hes been having testostorone issues for about a year now.. hes a low normal.. the Dr just ordered a sperm analysis since we havent gotten pregnant yet just to have more info.. and his count was at zero... thats devastating.. because i have no idea what that means for us... his exact words were that they think maybe its getting suppressed... does anyone have any advice...i dont know what to think right now...

hey izechsmama! good to see you back here! Gosh, sorry to hear of the zero count...Do they think that he might have a varicocele(like a varicose vein in the testes)? If i remember right this blocks the swimmers from coming out and slows the production? Those may not be the right words, i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong. There are a few girls who's dh's have had this problem on the moms2b thread(mine has a small one and his count was low side of norm). That is the only thing i can think of, but i'm sure there will be someone else who may know more about this and can give you a better idea of what it might be. If it is a varicocele it can be removed and has a good percentage of helping. Is this all they told you? They didn't give examples of what might cause this? Good luck to you, i hope you all find a fix to this problem quickly!

Was the test done accurately? It may be a lab error, especially since you and your DH have a 17 month old. Has your DH been ill since your son's birth? Has he been on medications that may be causing this? Has he had trauma to the groin/pelvic/back region? I hope this is just a lab error and that you find answers soon...

LIN - April 10th, 2007 1:59 AM

Has your dh been on testosterone supplements? They can actually drastically lower a man's sperm count. Do yourself a favor and go check out Fertility Friend's male infertility forum. You'll find a lot more people who know about this stuff over there. Good luck! Btw, it's still possible to get pg even with a zero count. You'd just have to have some medical assistance...

whatisgoingon - April 10th, 2007 4:22 AM

Thats gotta be a lab error Izechs! I really hope that is what it is. There will be some reasonable explanation or cause for his count to be zero. As Lin said.. perhaps its some sort of drug/medication he might have been taking (testosterone?), perhaps an injury or illness.. varicose?**a blocked vein stopping the sperm from making its way through? In any case is your DH going to get another opinion or test done?? I really hope you guys figure this one out asap sweety! xo

izechsmama - April 10th, 2007 8:24 AM

hey gals... the lab wasnt incorrect... we do have a 17 month old but my husband has had testosterone issues for about a year now.. and they decided to check to see how his sperm was and it was zero... LIN my husband has been having to take testosterone injections... two times a month... at first the doctors didnt think to check his fertility since we have a son.. but he didnt have issues back then either.... so we will have to see what the specialist is going to do now... thanks for alll the advice... by the way Lin.. i see that you're pregnant! CONGRATULATIONS! i'm so happy for you.. you deserve it so much... i'll check out that other info.. thanks gals...

Martha31 - April 10th, 2007 8:39 AM

hang in there girl..i am sure that this can be fixed and most probably shortly...do not worry too much, I am sure that your dh is in good hands and you will have all your answers shortly. my prayers are with you!! GL.

Desiree, right? Does your DH have low T?? Is that why he's on T supplements? My DH was dx with Low T about six months ago and has been using AndroGel everyday... Just wondering if we're even in a similiar boat. Gosh, I'm so sorry you're going through this!!! Hopefully the specidialist will be able to help!

Megs - April 10th, 2007 10:58 AM

I went and looked on the Male Infertility and came up with Hypogonadism... After reading the article, I'd say my DH has secondary which, thankfully, is the easier of the two to correct and of course, using the supplements. Just curious. I told DH he's going for a SA, SOON!!!! haha. I said, and no arguing!! LOL

izechsmama - April 10th, 2007 7:14 PM

Megs.. yeah my husband has low normal testosterone levels.. so hes been on injections for a year... i'll check out the male infertility thing.. we're suppoesd to find out by the end of this week what the next step is.... thanks for all the support.. i really hope they can fix this... :)

ashley - April 10th, 2007 8:18 PM

Uh he didn't have a vacectomy and not tell you did he?

izechsmama - April 11th, 2007 11:25 AM

Ashley.. sorry to sound rude.. but thats the stupidest comment i've ever heard in my life... thats absolutely not possible.. hes only 22 years old and wants another baby more than i do... plus we're so close that i think i would know something like that....

sososleepy - April 11th, 2007 11:38 AM

izechsmama, I'm sorry to hear of your problem. Can they skip the shots for a while so you can ttc? For you, ashley's question obviously wasn't an issue, but I wouldn't say it's a stupid question as it has happened to other women when their dh's did what they wanted quietly to avoid an argument with the wife...

Hi!
DH had issuess with low sperm count so I red a lot about it. For sure it is because of testosterone injections. Search the web and you will find a lot of articles about how injected testosterone decreases sprm count. It can actually shut testes down. Body builders who often use testosterone to build their muscle mass use them and often have issues with sperm count. But the damage is not permanent. I read that a lot of them take Clomid to restore fertility. Your DH should talk to the doctor to see what can be done. good luck

I agree with soso, I know it is frustrating to have strangers who don't know your situation pose questions like that, but honestly I wondered the same thing because my uncle did it to my aunt shortly after they got married---over 30 years ago. Yep, you heard that right. They are still together and are a wonderful couple. I can't remember how she found out but I know it was a messy ordeal for a while but they love each other very much and I guess she decided that she didn't want children after all...izechs, I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this. My bf had a SA done recently and the numbers weren't horrible but they weren't great...still pretty low and I was so depressed for a bit. There is sooo much that can be done nowadays though that I'm sure you will be fine and be able to work it out. I'd definitely look into stopping the injections if possible for a bit and then have another SA done to see what happens. Good luck!!!

Megs - April 11th, 2007 2:49 PM

Is it just the injections that are a problem or all testosterone supplments? If it's just the injections, why not try the patch or the gel?? It's more of an everyday ordeal but I'd say well worth it if it will make a difference!

izechsmama - April 11th, 2007 4:28 PM

thanks ladies for all the advice... my husband has been off the injections for a month and his body just continued to make only a small amount of testosterone... it is something that in order to function normally he has to have injections every two weeks.. this has been the best method determined to fix his problem... we have already talked with the drs about his sperm analysis as they were the ones that ordered it.. and the Dr has mailed us a letter supposedly stating what the next route will be as far as figuring out why his sperm count was zero... so we are just waiting on the letter and then in the meantime he is supposed to get back on his injections and they need to do more tests and see if he has a blockage or what the problem is... and i guess i realize that Ashleys suggestion can be real in some cases... but when i read that it just made me burst out in laughter...because that would never be the case.. and i couldnt picture myself being with anyone that could have the time or means to do something behind my back that extravagant... so anyways.. i appreciate all the advice..we're just waiting on the letter now... and i'll keep you all posted... in the meantime TTC has been obviously tainted.... take care gals... i'll check in..
