does anyone ever get confused with constipation as a sign of pg and constipation as a result of the prenatal vitamins? i have extreme constipation but i can't tell if it is because of the vitamins or not. swollen bbs and very sore nipples, lots of lotiony cm and cervix is not really high but definitly not low like before pd, but i got a bfn today. this would be 17 dpo but due to irregular pds after a m/c in feb i am not likely due until sept 7? anyone else having this problem? what other side affects has anyone had from the vitamins?

i am also due for af the 7th....neg test yesterday (i knew it was too early). the vitamins do cause constipation for me...and i have been having a problem with it since a m/c in april. so that isn't a sign i pay too much attention too. another thing that happens is my pee is a lot darker and smells funny since taking the vits. i am only 10 dpo right now....have a very sore and bloated tummy..boobs are kinda sore and am VERY tired!!!

Hey curious. Unfortunately one of the major side effects of the prenatals is constipation due to the extra iron in them. If you find this bothering you, you can take them at night, which may help in some women or drink extra water or juice. During pregnancy, no laxatives or such thus they may dehydrate you. after your body adjusts to the iron, you will regulate. Hope this helps. :)

Taking them before you go to bed does not help w/constipation. I've got the same problem. I am allowed to take a stool softner though. That is the name of it too. Stool Softner. I've got major constipation and when I do actually go number two it's awful!! I don't even want to think about have to use the toilet. Take the vitamin before bed is supposed to help with the sickness it causes in some women not constipation. The doctor also told me to eat foods with lots of fiber. Wheat breads, broccoli, drink lots of water, things like that. Besides that if your not pregnant and just taking the vitamin just incase you go get pregnant, that is no reason you shouldn't be able to take a laxative. If you think you are though, I would wait it out and just try so stool softners. Good Luck

Actually my ob told me to take them at night to help alleviate some constipation. Prenatals have large amounts of iron that when taken with food in the stomach may cause constipation in some women, So if taken at night there is less of a chance of them binding with things such as calcium which in turn causes calcium. He even gave me a handout on it. I was also told NOT to take laxative in case I might be pregnant. They can dehydrate and cause further problems. He told me to drink 64 ounces of water and juice a day as well as eat plenty of fruits and veggies. Like maddie said oce your body adjusts to the iron, the problem may get better, but remember with latter pregnancy, constipation may also occur. Good luck.

I was told to take them at night for better absorption. I also was given one without calcum to help not cause constipation

Oh, well sorry then, My doctor didn't tell me that one. The ones I take have to be takin twice a day and it's best if you don't take them at the same time, so I just take it after lunch and then dinner. A stool softener is not a laxative, it just like that name says softens you stool making it easier to use the bathroom.

thanks for the input, i do take them at night to alleviate the nausea but it doesn't help with constipation. i am a vegetarian so i already eat a ton of fruits and veggies as it is. i guess it is just something i will have to live with!

Ask your doc for the liquid suspension formula. That helped me.
