daisy, as clindholm said, most people do not have a period while pregnant. think of it this way, the sooner you know (you are or are not pregnant), the sooner you can decide what you're going to do - about the baby and about the new someone. would you rather take a test or let your stomach tell everyone in a few months? if it's positive, assuming you're sleeping with the new someone, you don't want to be wondering who the father is, right? not to mention getting started on prenatal care, preparing to tell your family and friends, and notifying the old boyfriend (or not, as the case may be). if its negative, you can look into birth control pills - you can't take most of them while pregnant.
by the way, if you think the new someone might leave you because you're pregnant, you might not want to be involved with that person.
