You deserve a better answer. You can get pregnant from sex in the week before ovulation and the couple of days after. Sperm lasts 5 days, eggs last much less. The trick is determining the time of ovulation. The standard time of ovulation is 14 days before your expected period, give or take a couple of days. Like anything else in life, there is a bell-shaped curve associated with that. You may ovulate unexpectedly early once in a great while, and unexpectedly late due to happenstance, skipped ovulation, sickness, antibiotics and stress. If you are absolutely certain you ovulated several days ago, you are at minimal risk for pregnancy from that day until the end of the cycle. There are tricks to knowing that you ovulated for sure (cm, cp, temps). Before ovulation there is no way of minimizing the risk. Some women have gotten pregnant from sex on the first day of their period, but this is rare indeed. The fertile window is said to be from day 8 to 16 of a 28 day cycle. Use a condom anyway for STD protection. Good luck!
