I'm 33 weeks pregnant and addicted to Suboxone. I talked to an OB doctor who is also a suboxone specialist and he said it is safe to take all the way through pregnancy. But I'm wondering if they can take your child away after you deliver even though my doctor knows Im on it? I'm trying to quit but it's so hard. Does anyone know about it?

Stupid me I guess, but what is it? Is it prescribed? If it is prescribed they can't do anything about it, but if you are taking it illegally they could investigate once baby is born. Good Luck! Most hospitals test the placenta for drugs once baby is born.

I looked it up out of curiousity, I guess it is kind of like methadone, if so I know they can take your kids for using methadone. My sister was on methadone when she got pregnant with her 4th, her Dr. put her in the hospital at 7 months to wean her off of it, so they wouldn't come and take her son. They can and they will. I am really suprised you haven't asked your Dr. sooner then this about being weaned off and if they will investigate after pregnancy. This is something you should have found out about sooner. I am sorry you are in this situation, and I try real hard to not judge people in your shoes, but I can't have much sympathy for you knowing you are harming your baby and waited until the 8th month to try and chage it. They say methadone is better then heroine during pregnancy because it is clean and street heroine isn't but it can still have serious consequences for the baby. My sisters son has crossed eyes and major vision issues, if you look up methadone use during pregnancy, crossed eyes is the first thing you will find.

Actually, my doctor has known about it ever since I found out I was pregnant. I have quit but they havent given me much info, so thats why im on here. I update them everytime I go in for my appt. and all they say is "she'll be fine, Im proud of you." When I told her I quit she said "ok, we dont have to go any further with it then" but Im not sure what that means.
