I had my membrane stripped today. Doc told me to do lots of walking. I have had a few contractions but nothing to call mama over hehehe. I have another doc appointment in the morning if my contractions don't progress or my water doesn't break. I had this done with my daughter and the next morning my water broke as I was getting out of bed. Hoping this happens again.

what exactly is it that they do when they strip your membranes? I'm 38wk 4 days, and haven't dialated or effaced at all, baby has budged...I didn't know if maybe by next week this time things haven't progressed if I should ask my dr about doing this?

Mrose,
Membrane stripping is when the doc during your exam takes his/her fingers and runs them around the inside of your cervix, this allows the "water bag" membrane to seperate from the cervix. The idea is that it is a less invasive way to start labor than induction. The membrane is supposed to drop into the cervix area and eventually rupture "water breaks". I had this done again this morning. I have moved from 2cm to 3cm and from 50% to 60% efaced. They also say that it lowers the risk of c sections. It worked great for my DD but this little I don't think is wanting to leave his cozy little place. I walked a bunch last night also and had a few contractions. So we will see.

I had my membranes stripped when i was a week and 3 days overdue... and still nothing... i had to be induced at 42 weeks... but usually most women it helps to jump start labor, but i know they can not do it unless you have dialated and effaced a little... because your cervix has to be ripe and already ready to go, thye usually wont strip ur membranes unless that has begun to happen

I had my membranes stripped when i was 38 weeks along and i was 3 cm dilated and 90% effaced. It did produce some braxton hicks and i lost my mucus plug a few days later but it didn't result in sending me into labour. I am 40wks1day now and 4cm and 100% effaced. I would say it didn't work for me, i have done lots of walking in between but still nothing, so my induction date is set for sunday. I say if baby is ready to be born stripping the membranes will work if baby is not ready than it won't really do much. Good luck.

I had mine stripped at 38 weeks 4days, and only had some brown spotting, I had to be induced at 40 weeks due to GD. I was at three centimeters for six days. It never worked for me :(
