Cervical Ripening

I am 32 weeks pregnant, with my 2nd child. My first was three weeks early. My husband and I were intimate and he thinks that me cervix has softened. Is it possible for him to notice, and how long before birth does it soften?

I would like to know the answer to this one as well....I was told that it usually doesnt soften until about 37 weeks???? Is this true?
