What exactly does that mean? I mean I know what dialation and effacement are...but does that mean I am just very slowly starting to progress and nothing big is really happening. Is it bad? The doctor didn't say it was and I should have asked but I was alittle out of it trying to breath and talk through the contractions, so nothing really crossed my mind other then me wanting to get them over with.

Effacement is the thinning of your cervix. You must dilate to 10 and efface 100% before deliverycan happen. Being 2 cm is a good start at only 36 weeks, but to really make good progress you need to start effacing, but you are still early and will probably have no trouble dilating or effacing.

Ok, so its ok to be dialated and not effaced? Is it when you are effaced and haven't dialated that it is bad? I heard one of the ways may end in a c-sections because either or isn't good. I just heard that though so I know its not like 100% true since it was hear say, but would rather ask to make sure

Okay neither of them are good or bad. You can still go into labour without being either of these things. I was not dilated AT all and 70% effaced and went into labour before my due date with my first. Its not good to keep harbouring on how dialated you are when in the end it means nothing. And no, not being effaced or dilated does not mean C-section at all. GL.

At only 36 weeks I don't think it matters either way. I was completely closed last week at 36 weeks and now this week at 37 weeks I am a loose 2 cm! It might make labor longer if you don't efface soon, but I am sure you will, but just need more time. I have never heard it increases your risk for a c-section.

OK, and I know that really it means nothing, and I could be dialated at 2 for the next 4 weeks, shoot I can even go 2 weeks over being dialated at 2. I just wanted to make sure it was ok to be one and not the other. Hear say had me thinking...but now that I know, I can relax and let nature take its course. I don't think I will have her anytime soon, my body just doesn't seem ready in my opinion, but you never know...I just think the contractions are going to be a pain though
