Ok, so my feet/ankles are swollen. My left is bigger than my right and have been like this for 4-6 weeks on and off. I was told to call my doc and ask what should I do...well he wants me to go to the ER and have an ultrasound on my leg for a blood clot. First off, I asked him to call me in and he said he cant...so I have to pay 100 dollars for the ER visit. My feet have been like this for weeks and I have been fine...plus I am at work and an hour away from the hospital. Ugh, doctors. What should I do?

Go in. A blood clot is a very serious issue. I had to go in last week for suspicion of a blood clot. The problem with blood clots is that they can move so quickly. My uncle died because he had a blood clot in his leg that traveled to his heart and caused a heart attack. The test is easy...literally it is just an ultrasound on your leg. I fell asleep while they were doing mine. If you're lucky you might be able to convince the tech to take a look in your tummy. I know I tried but my tech said no.

Go in immediately. I had a friend that had a blood clot in her leg due to pregnancy. A week after the baby was born she had a stroke (she was 30 years old). Luckily, she recovered from it, but it still took months of physical therapy. But it could have gone the other way....she could have left DH with a newborn and made him a widower....If its nothing, then all you lose is $100...

I know we are tight on money, but if my doctor recomended it my child comes first, if it would effect her in any way I would take it serious. 100 dollars is a lot but the life of myself and my child is well worth it. Better safe then sorry...I figured that out today with these dumb contractions.

Very true regarding a blood clot and the dangers of them. My mom suffers from them and had to inject herself w/blood thinners throughout her entire pregnancy w/my sister. Her most recent blood clot was in January after she had surgery in December. Fortunately, they caught it and because she has a history of them, they were able to put a filter in her. Do you have any pain in your legs? That's usually a sure sign of DVT. My mom's leg (whichever one the clot was in) would get really red and painful. It would be hard for her to breath and walk around. My feet have been very swollen as well, but they have gone down as the weather cooled down (I'm in SoCal currently enjoying 80 degree temps, so not the norm for this time of year) and I have flushed my system with TONS of water. Good luck, but like the others said, a blood clot is serious business and I would rather lose $100 than my life.

I agree, go in! And this is from someone who was in the same situation (with my oldest) and went and got it done!! For me, it turned out to be nothing, but I wouldn't take the chance, just in case it really is a clot!
