[Original Post]

As I posted previously this week, I have been having contractions and went to L&D last Sunday. My doc was out of town on Monday so I went to see the Doc on call. He said that my cervix was soft and slightly effaced, baby has dropped and he said he didn't think I would make it much past 32 weeks. Thursday morning I lost part of my mucus plug, and I have continued to have contractions even on the brethine. I saw my regular doc yesterday, He told me that "yes your cervix is very soft, but since you have had children before it never would have gotten firm in the first place." I know this is a bunch of crap because at one point in this pregnancy they told me that my cervix was "hard just like it should be." Also yesterday he confirmed that I have indeed effaced some and that baby has dropped. He didn't seem concerned at all about me losing part of the MP at 28 weeks, or that the brethine wasn't doing anything but slowing down some of the contractions. He also confirmed that my cervix was open. Now I am not quite sure what to think. He did offer to go ahead and put me in the hospital for the steroid shots, "if it would make me feel better." We asked him about all of the pressure I am feeling in my back with the contractions I am having, and his response was to get a massage or buy a back brace. He finished up the visit saying that he really wasn't concerned with any of the things I was experiencing and he felt like I would probably go full term with no problems. I have a history of preterm labor and preeclampsia, and he isn't concerned that I am having all of these symptoms at 28 weeks? I am trying to decide if I should try and change docs or just wait it out. Sorry for the long post but I am little annoyed at this doctor, and any input or advice would be great.

If you do not trust your Dr then you should find a new one. If you have actually had all those issues I would strongly advise you to find a perinatologist in your area. A perinatal r is a dr that i OB/GYN but with more experence in high risk pegnancies. Hoe you can keep the lil one in a bit longer

I would get a 2nd opinion. I would consider that with your background of premies that you have a right to feel concerned.

I agree that a 2nd opinion sounds like a good idea-you don't want to have that baby just yet! Have you managed to avoid pre-eclampsia so far this time?

Yes, I agree. Yet, the problem is these docs are only able to give you their best guess. It would be really great if they could see the future but they can't. Some women do all the things you are, but go past their due date. Of course, some do things like you and soon after have the baby. If your fetal fibronectin was negative (and it was, right?) then you have 94% + change of NOT delivering for two weeks after the test. After my 2 weeks expired, and I was still having contractions, we did another which was still negative. For me it's worth it, just for peace of mind.-----On the other hand, I'd recommend you look into the steroids. They help the preemie lungs to mature; it helps ALOT! And, maybe you should ckeck into it sooner than later. If you're feeling ominous about the baby coming soon, you just may be right. Sometimes mom's can "foretell" what will happen better than the docs. And the girls are right a perinatologist may be a good idea. TAKE CARE!

**chance** not change. sorry!

I have avoided any signs of pre-E this time around so far. My bp is staying really low and nothing else is showing up. I am just concerned because I have had a feeling since around 20 weeks that my little girl is coming early, and now all of this. I have seen 2 different docs this past week and they have each said something different which is why I am confused about all of this. Both docs agree that my cervix is soft and open and slightly effaced, and that the she has dropped and pushing on the cervix. However, one doc says I need to be careful because he doesn't think I will make it much longer, the other says oh well I see your symptoms but I am not gonna do anything about them. The fetal fibronectine (spelling?) was negative which I initially took to be a good sign, but then the first doc said that it's not always accurate especially in a case like mine, the other doc says the test is fool proof and guarantees no baby for a couple of weeks. I am gonna wait and see what happens Thursday when I go back to be checked again, and I guess I will decide then what I should do.
