I bought some medela nipple stuff (I think it's laniso or something like that) because I'm terrified of the pain of breastfeeding.. I was just wondering if you should start using this before the baby is born so that your nipples will be extra moisturized and maybe won't dry out so badly.. ??

Breastfeeding doesn't hurt past the first week or so unless there's a problem. It is recommended that you use lansinoh to help prepare your nipples but you don't have to. I didn't. And, don't be terrified of breastfeeding. It is a wonderful, enjoyable experience. If you're afraid of it, you will be setting yourself up for failure. Try getting together with a La Leche League group before your baby is born, to reassure you.

I usually have pain the first week , maybe a tad longer. A good latch and holding the baby in the right position helps prevent it. I second the LLL advice: for questions, concerns and support.

Ditto to the above advise. I never did had problems with the latch in the hospital had to get help, make sure you get the adaquate help in the hospital if you are not happy ask someone else,my experience. I had blisters on one breast and was afraid to put my son ongot the help I needed and bf sucessfully in the end. My second was a pro so we shall see about this one due in March.

My aunt recommended also to use Lanisoh after the 7th month, with her first baby her nipples cracked and bleed very bad, with her second she used Lanisoh and didn't have a problem. Better be safe than sorry... But a recommendation don't rub a lot your nipples, I've read it can bring preterm labor, just apply the Lanisoh in a very gentle way.
