I am on my second pregnancy. I didn't have spd with my first, but I have it with this one. I feel your pain and I share in your concerns. I plan on having another natural childbirth. From what I have read and researched, the best positions are sidelying or on hands and knees- anything that doesn't spread your legs too far. Traditional birthing positions could rupture your pubic symphysis and leave you permanently damaged. Make sure you tell your nurses and/or caregivers about your condition so that they can be careful about it. Also- if you can see a chiropractor as often as possible in the last few weeks, do it- it has really helped me. Good luck sweetie! Hang in there- I know it's hard!

I HAVE SPD TOO< I HAVE BEEN IGNORED ABOUT THIS SO MUCH>
MY CONSULTANT SAID GRIN AND BARE IT THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO. I AM TERRIFIED OF LABOUR NOW I DONT KNOW WHAT TO EXCPECT OR WHAT TO AVOID.

It is so ironic that this post finally came up. I have been experiencing pain in the pelvic region and thighs too. I thought that there was something seriously wrong. However, I researched on SPD and it put me much at ease. I want to have a natural birth. Does anyone know if having a doula will help? Hang in there, I know we can all make it.

I am also on my second pregnancy at 36 weeks i am experiencing SPD AGAIN! This afternoon I will be stating my case for a section with my consultant at the hospital I had my first child. Without wishing to sound like a scare monger I did have problems with the birth, I was in severe pain before having the actual contractions and had to be kept in overnight and given very strong pain killers. Unfortunatley for SPD sufferers (maybe generalising but was in my case) the hospital staff were not sympathetic and it seemed a bit of a myth to them in fact, I eventually gave birth to my daughter with my legs spread wide open in stirrups and forceps (so much for the tying ribbon around the knees as recommended by my pamphlets!) Last time I wasn't even given the time to see the consultant I shall not be fobbed off this time, I have an 18 month old daughter so it is fairly impossible to walk on my crutches the support belt did nothing to ease the pain and although there will be discomfort following the section at least I will be mobile, I can barely walk ten steps at the moment without feeling like my pelvis is crumbling away! I would like to add that it doesn't have to be painful for every SPD sufferer but do your research and know your options before going into hospital. Lastly I did recover soon after the birth so believe it or not you will be active again and it's not guaranteed you will have SPD again with other pregnancys' just bad luck if you do!
ps MCW what is a doula?

I had my baby naturally and without medication on March 13th. Amazingly enough, with a few chiropractic visits, my pelvis is totally back to normal. My midwife was wonderful and my nurses were very sympathetic. I labored in every position possible- depending on what was comfortable and delivered on the birthing bed sitting up as high as it would go. I just made sure that when pushing, instead of pulling my legs so far out, I spread them, but pulled them more up than out. My husband made sure to remind me when I was in the throes of it. Good luck! It is possible!!

during my first pregnancy i was a right mess with spd. i had to use crutches, wear a support belt along with a body stocking. not a nice sight. i was also on dizapan( sorry spelling bad) to help with the pain. but even though i was in a right mess with spd, i still managed to have a natural birth with my son. they do advise that the best positions are either standing cos gravity can the birth be quicker and less painful for you, or like in a doggy style way. i did try these and felt awkward so ended up on my back. you do have to wait till your in labour and listner to want your body wants.
i'm now on my second pregnancy, 32+ weeks, and touch wood things are ok. a few twinges now and then but i take it day by day.
good luck to you. sorry for the long reply.

I am on my 4th pregnancy,a pleasant suprise! as i call it.I had spd in the last 2 pregnancys and again now. Each time it has stated earlier and the pain has been worse.I'm at 36wks + at the moment and hoping to be induced at 38.The leaflets tell you to avoid epidurels but thats the way i got through my labours,as long as you make sure you know your pain free gap nd make sure you don't part your legs any further it may well be your saving grace,i know it was for me.I don't know about anyone else but my labour pain was concentrated around the top of my legs and my groin,it actually felt like my legs were being pulled off !.On the plus side the relief after the babies were born was amazing and my spd pain was almost totaly gone within about 10 days.

This is my third pregnancy and the second time ive had SPD, alot worse this time aswell, had sex the other night with me on top and couldnt move for the next 2 days :( anyway i had a natural birth with my son, i was only in labour 3.5 hours, i had an active labour, and when it came to pushing i was in to much pain inside to notice the pain in my pelvis ( my sons head was a lot larger than average, had hardened due to being overdue and felt like i was being torn apart on the inside) but i only had 30 minutes of pushing :)
